Chapter 130 He Actually Explained
Upon hearing this, Seb looked at Susan and nodded, "Yeah, you're right!"
Susan stared at him, annoyed. If she was right, why was he still bugging her?
Seb got serious and said, "I admit I loved Cynthia and wanted to marry her, but that's old news. That ended years ago. Can’t someone fall in love more than once? Haven't you loved someone before? You just said you like me, so doesn't that mean your feelings for someone else have faded?"
Susan was at a loss for words. Seb was right. She had loved Andrew, but he was out of her life now. She thought of him sometimes, but she didn't love him anymore.
Seb held her shoulders, eyes intense. "Everyone has a past and special feelings for certain things, especially someone they once loved. I keep Cynthia's photo out of habit, not love. It's been in that book for years. If I told you I haven't touched it in years, would you believe me?"
Susan looked at Seb, knowing he was being sincere. She had kept things from her relationship with Andrew too. They were part of her past and youth.
Seb wasn't one to explain himself, but today he had. Susan knew this was rare for him.
But she was still confused. Why was Seb telling her all this?
"What do you mean by telling me all this?" Susan asked, looking down.
Seb, frustrated, touched the back of his head. "Damn it, why don't you get it? Aren't you usually smart at work?"
"How am I supposed to know what you mean?" Susan pouted.
She had a vague idea but needed Seb to say it directly.
Seb paced the room, as if making a significant decision, then grabbed her shoulders again. "I'm in love with you!"
Susan stared at him, shocked and happy.
Seeing her wide-eyed and silent, Seb anxiously said, "I said I'm in love with you, do you get it?"
"When?" Susan asked.
"What do you mean, when?" Seb was almost driven mad by her slowness. Why was she so unromantic? Couldn't she just respond?
"I mean, when did you fall in love with me?" Susan thought about their past interactions. She felt his concern but wasn't sure when his feelings had started.
Seb thought for a moment before answering, "Maybe I was hooked from the first moment I saw you, but I didn't realize it until you left. After our divorce, I couldn't face my feelings. If you ask when I lost control, it was recently."
Susan agreed. Seb was proud and probably never thought he'd fall for someone as ordinary as her. Cynthia was from a prestigious family, beautiful, elegant, and a top university graduate. Susan felt out of place. How could someone like Seb fall for her?
"What about Cynthia? I don't want to be a homewrecker!" Susan asked. Weren't Seb and Cynthia together? She didn't want to come between them, even though she didn't like Cynthia.
"Were you even listening carefully?" Seb asked, frustrated.
Susan was about to say she was, but Seb kissed her passionately, leaving her dazed and clinging to his coat for support.
When he finally let her breathe, Seb looked at her with tenderness and love.
Lying on his shoulder, Susan asked, "You still haven't told me about you and Cynthia."
"I never reconciled with her. We're just friends," Seb said, grabbing her hand.
"Then why did I see you buying a diamond ring with her at the mall? Weren't you going to marry her?" Susan asked.
"It was her birthday. She misunderstood and asked for a diamond ring, but I didn't buy it," Seb explained.
Susan was still skeptical. "What about when you went to Averlake? She said you reconciled and were getting married. Was that a lie?" Susan suddenly felt foolish. She had fallen for Cynthia's trap; those words were likely fabricated by Cynthia to drive her away.
Seb's expression turned serious. "Cynthia has severe asthma, which could be life-threatening. We grew up together and once loved each other, so I couldn't ignore her. I went to Averlake to get her medical records and talk to her doctor. Her condition was serious because she refused to cooperate with treatment. The doctor said it could be life-threatening if she had an attack."
