Chapter 1058 Forced into a Corner
Cecilia had always been a proud and ambitious girl. Despite her poor background and difficult family conditions, she was naturally beautiful, talented, and excelled in her studies. After graduating from college, she even secured a scholarship to study abroad.
However, she carried many burdens: Rainey, who had been ill for years, and Quentin, who had sacrificed his future for her. These were weights she could not bear.
Life had reached a dead end, and Cecilia knew she had to find Daryl.
She knew she was poor and that to live and ensure her family had a better life, she had to give up her pride and dignity.
With tears in her eyes, she finished the pasta in front of her and resolutely dialed Daryl's number.
She could endure any hardship, but when it came to Rainey and Quentin, she could no longer maintain her pride. If she worked hard, she might still have a hopeful future, but Rainey and Quentin had nothing left; they couldn't afford to lose anymore.
The phone rang five or six times before someone finally answered.
"Have you changed your mind?" Daryl's magnetic voice came from the other end.
Cecilia detected a hint of smugness and mockery in Daryl's tone, but this was not the time for her to care about her dignity. Ever since she made this decision, she had put down her dignity.
"Yes." Cecilia nodded heavily, holding the phone.
Daryl chuckled lightly. "My special assistant will send you the address shortly. Come over immediately; I want to see you."
"I..." Before Cecilia could speak, the call was disconnected.
Staring at the still-flashing screen, Cecilia felt that the once gentle and caring Daryl had completely disappeared. Now, his voice and laughter were as cold as ice, sending chills down her spine.
A minute later, Cecilia received a text message with the address of the Fields Group's branch in Northstar City.
He really was the heir to the Fields Group. Cecilia felt a deep sense of irony. A few days ago, she had meticulously broken up with Daryl to pursue the wealthy Seb, hoping to secure some money to improve her family's life. But she hadn't expected Daryl to be the real wealthy one.
However, Cecilia did not regret it. At the time, her relationship with Daryl was genuine. Even if she had known he was rich, she wouldn't have asked him for money, because that would have tainted their relationship.
Cecilia put on her black wool coat and left.
The Fields Group's branch was located in a tall office building in a bustling area. With a nervous heart, Cecilia walked into the building.
Although she knew Daryl well, she no longer knew how to face him, as he was about to become her financial backer.
From a young age, she had vowed to achieve everything through her own efforts, but she had been defeated by the harsh reality. Despite being an excellent student all her life, she was now using her body to change her family's life, not her accumulated knowledge and skills.
She thought she should thank Rainey for giving her this look. If not for her good looks, Daryl probably wouldn't have chosen her.
Cecilia suddenly hated her appearance. If she were uglier or had a worse figure, maybe she wouldn't have to sell her body, and she wouldn't feel so guilty.
Despite her hesitation, Cecilia found herself standing in front of the CEO's office at the Fields Group's branch.
A female secretary glanced at Cecilia and then smiled, "Are you Ms. Thorne?"
"Yes." Cecilia nodded.
The secretary said, "Mr. Fields is very busy. Please wait in the reception room."
"Alright." Cecilia frowned slightly.
He had asked her to come immediately, but she hadn't expected to wait.
But this was normal. Some big shots like him were always busy.
The secretary then led Cecilia to a reception room not far from the CEO's office.
"There are tea and snacks here. I'll call you when Mr. Fields is available," The secretary said politely before leaving.
Cecilia sat on the couch, waiting for three hours.
She had no interest in the tea and snacks on the coffee table; she just wanted to see Daryl as soon as possible.
By nearly five o'clock, Cecilia realized that Daryl wasn't busy; he was deliberately making her wait.
The next moment, Cecilia stood up abruptly and walked out of the reception room.
The secretary saw Cecilia heading straight for the CEO's office door and stood up nervously to stop her. "Ms. Thorne, you can't go in without Mr. Fields' permission!"
But it was too late; Cecilia had already pushed open the office door.
The next second, Cecilia saw that besides Daryl, there were two other employees in the large office.
Daryl looked up, his gaze falling on Cecilia, still cold.
"Sorry, Mr. Fields, I couldn't stop Ms. Thorne," The secretary said fearfully.
Daryl waved his hand, indicating it wasn't her fault.
Cecilia looked back at Daryl, expressionless. "If you're busy today, I'll come back another day!"
After all, if Daryl was just toying with her, there was no point in staying.
Daryl's mouth twitched, and he said to the two employees standing by his desk, "I have something to discuss with this lady. Please wait outside."
"Yes." The two male employees nodded immediately and quickly left the office.
The secretary also left and closed the door.
With the door closed, the large space was left with only Daryl and Cecilia.
Cecilia suddenly felt extremely nervous. The next moment, she clenched her fists and walked to the opposite side of Daryl's desk.
"Didn't you say I could come to you anytime if I changed my mind? I need $104,000. I agree to be your bed partner," After saying that, Cecilia felt her face flush, her heart race, and her voice tremble.
Daryl didn't rush to respond. Instead, he clasped his hands and stared fixedly at Cecilia across the desk.
The office was silent, and Cecilia could almost hear her own heartbeat.
"If you..." Seeing him remain silent for a long time, Cecilia thought he had changed his mind.
