Chapter 505 Elderly Romance
The next morning, Susan was out cold, not giving a damn about the time. It was the weekend, and her brain was like, "Chill, girl, you can sleep in. Tomorrow's the big day, and you gotta be fresh."In her dreamland, Susan heard someone yelling. "Get up!"
Half-asleep, she mumbled something, rolled over, and tried to keep snoozing.
Next thing she knew, she felt a chill and cracked open her sleepy eyes to see her blanket had been yanked off.
She turned her head and saw Seb, all dressed up, standing by the bed.
He was rocking a white shirt, black tie, and black pants. Simple, but he looked sharp and handsome.
In her thin nightgown, Susan rubbed her eyes and said, "Why you lookin' like a security guard today?"
While buttoning his cuffs, Seb replied, "Mom and Rylee's car is rolling into Maple Valley at 11 AM."
Hearing that, Susan shot up in bed.
"What did you say? Your mom and Rylee are coming?" She was still groggy and a bit out of it. Every time Carol saw her, it was a drama fest.
Seb smiled and patted her head. "We're getting hitched tomorrow. They gotta show up today, right?"
"Do we need to pick them up?" Susan asked, still half-asleep.
Seb said, "Mom thinks the house is too cramped, so she, Rylee, and my brother-in-law are crashing at a hotel. Dad's getting out of the hospital today, so we'll grab him first and then meet them at the hotel. I already booked lunch there to welcome Mom and Rylee."
Hearing that, Susan jumped out of bed. "I'll go get ready."
"Dress up nice. It's your first time meeting Rylee and her hubby, and you're the bride-to-be today," Seb said with a grin.
"Got it!" Susan replied, shutting the bathroom door. She decided to shower first, still feeling the remnants of last night's fun.
Over half an hour later, with Seb checking his watch every two seconds, Susan finally came downstairs.
Wearing black three-inch heels, Susan carefully made her way down the stairs. She wasn't tall, so the heels helped her match Seb's height.
As soon as she came down, Seb's eyes were glued to her.
Today, Susan was rocking a burgundy silk blouse and a houndstooth pencil skirt that hugged her curves. The heels showed off her figure perfectly.
Under Seb's gaze, Susan smiled as she descended the stairs, a black cashmere coat draped over her arm.
Standing in front of him, Susan did a little twirl, her hair flying.
"How do I look?" she asked, looking up at Seb, who hadn't taken his eyes off her.
Seb finally looked away and said, "Passable."
Then he grabbed her hand and started pulling her outside.
Annoyed, Susan protested, "Just passable? I should go change."
"It's too late now; just roll with it," Seb said, grabbing her wrist.
Susan looked up and saw the playful glint in his eyes. She knew he was just messing with her.
So, she grinned mischievously and said, "I need at least a ninety to step out."
"It's already a ninety," Seb shot back quickly.
"Really?" Susan gave him a skeptical look.
"Really," Seb nodded without missing a beat.
"But I don't believe you," Susan pouted.
"You look so stunning today that I can't take my eyes off you. Is that good enough?" Seb said, pulling her out of the villa.
"Now that's more like it," Susan said, following him to the car.
Seb and Susan first hit up the hospital to get Todd discharged, then headed straight to the hotel.
Leon wheeled Todd into a swanky private room at the hotel. Seb said to Todd, "Dad, let Susan keep you company for a bit. Leon and I will go greet Mom and Rylee."
"Alright," Todd nodded.
Then Seb and Leon left the room.
The place was decked out with antique redwood furniture. A big round table in the center was covered with fresh, vibrant flowers. Even though it was daytime, the crystal chandelier above still shone brightly, lighting up the table.
Susan poured a cup of coffee and brought it to Todd. "Dad, have some coffee."
Todd looked at the cup in her hand and smiled. "Susan, your mom said I'm still on meds, so I can't have coffee. Could you get me some plain water instead?"
Susan was taken aback. Mom? Carol hadn't seen Todd recently. Then it hit her—he meant Catherine.
"Oh, okay." Susan quickly nodded, dumped the coffee, and filled the cup with water from the thermos.
But she felt a bit uneasy. Todd seemed to listen to Catherine a lot, which bugged her.
A few seconds later, Susan handed Todd the water. "Dad, here's your water."
"Thank you," Todd said with a smile, taking the cup and drinking most of it.
Susan carefully took the nearly empty cup and placed it on the table.
Then Todd's voice came from behind her. "Susan, how's Catherine been these past few days?"
Back to Todd, Susan frowned slightly. Catherine had only left the hospital two days ago, and he was already asking about her. It showed how much he cared about Catherine. But was this concern a bit too much for in-laws?
The next moment, Susan thought maybe Todd was just being polite. After all, Catherine had taken care of him for many days. She preferred to think she was overthinking it.
So, she turned around, smiled at Todd, and said, "My mom is doing well. Thanks for asking, Dad."
Todd's smile seemed a bit awkward. After a moment's hesitation, he added, "Thanks to Catherine's care these past few days. She's a kind and considerate woman, just like you!"
