Chapter 981 Hard-Earned Happiness

When Leon heard that, he just smiled and kept quiet.

Seb shot a sideways glance at Isabella and smirked. "No worries, just let me know once you get the green light."

Leon gave a small smile, looking down, still not saying a word.

Right then, Dorothy, Maria, and a bunch of Leon's friends showed up, and everyone grabbed a seat.

Everyone brought wedding gifts. Leon was super chatty that night, looking all lively and confident. Isabella kept sneaking glances at him, feeling her admiration and love for him grow.

As the party was in full swing, there were two knocks on the private room door, and in walked two guys in black suits.

Leon frowned when he saw them.

The two men headed straight for Isabella. One of them bowed and said, "Mrs. Johnson, our boss prepared this wedding gift for you. Wishing you and Mr. Johnson a happy marriage."

He took a black velvet box from the other guy, opened it, and showed it to Isabella.

Everyone's eyes popped when they saw what was inside.

The box had a set of ruby jewelry: a necklace, bracelet, earrings, and a ring. The gems were huge and top-notch, sparkling under the lights.

"Who are you guys?" Isabella asked, looking from the jewelry to the men.

"We..." One of them started to answer.

Leon, sitting next to Isabella, looked pissed and said coldly, "You're not welcome here. Leave now!"

"Mr. Johnson, this is a goodwill gesture from our boss. We're just following orders," one of the men said, looking a bit uneasy.

Isabella saw the anger in Leon's eyes and furrowed her brows, confused about who these men were. Who was their boss? And why did they seem to respect Leon and her so much? What was the deal between their boss and Leon?

While Isabella was lost in thought, Leon suddenly stood up, walked over to the man, closed the velvet box, and shoved it back into his arms. "My wife and I won't accept this gift. Leave now and don't ruin our wedding party!"

"Mr. Johnson, please don't make this hard for us. We'll be in trouble if we go back with the gift," the man pleaded, looking at Leon.

Leon didn't budge, his face cold and stern.

The room got tense, and everyone exchanged confused looks.

"I told you to leave. Don't you get it?" Leon snapped, seeing the men still standing there.

Seb suddenly stood up and walked over to the men. "We're here to celebrate Mr. Johnson's wedding. It's not cool to mess up the vibe like this, right?"

"But if we don't deliver the gift, our boss will definitely blame us," the men said, looking stressed.

Seeing this, Seb glanced at Leon, then took the velvet box from one of the men's hands. "I'll take this on behalf of Mr. Johnson. Cool?"

"Thank you, Mr. Anderson." The two men, relieved, nodded quickly and left the room.

Leon shoved his hands in his pockets, looking annoyed.

Seb turned around, threw an arm around Leon's shoulder, and said, "Don't kill the vibe. Let's keep the party going!"

They both went back to their seats, and everyone resumed their toasts and chatter.

Isabella, though, felt weird. She kept sneaking glances at Leon, noticing he wasn't as cheerful as before but had calmed down. She decided to hold off on her questions and wait for a better time to ask him.

That night, everyone had a blast. After dinner, they hit up a Karaoke Lounge. Leon, who never sang, even did a love song duet with Isabella. Everyone cheered, and Isabella felt like she was seeing a whole new side of Leon.

Around eleven, they all said their goodbyes at the hotel entrance.

Seb handed the black velvet box to Leon. "Here's your wedding gift."

Leon replied, "You took it, not me."

Seeing Leon's dark expression, Seb shoved the box into Isabella's hands. "Then you take it."

"I..." Isabella started to say.

But Seb pulled Susan away. "We're outta here!"

Watching Seb and Susan leave, Isabella looked at Leon and asked, "What should we do with this?"

Leon frowned and said, "We'll deal with it at home."

"Okay." With no other choice, Isabella held the velvet box and got into the car.

Seb was about to get into the car with Susan when she looked at the nearby riverbank.

The moonlight was beautiful, shining on the rippling river. It was late, and everything was quiet.

Susan smiled and said, "Walk with me?"

"Sure." Seb signaled the driver to wait and then walked with Susan to the riverbank.

The autumn night breeze was cool, and the sound of the river waves hitting the shore could be heard. The night was deep, and there was almost no one around, adding to the chill.

Seb took off his suit jacket and draped it over Susan's shoulders, who was wearing a thin dress. He then adjusted the jacket and gently brushed Susan's wind-blown hair with his fingers.

Watching his actions, Susan felt warmth in her heart. Thinking nothing could be better than having a husband who cared so much for her, Susan silently vowed to cherish this hard-won happiness.

"Why so quiet? What's on your mind?" Seb asked, looking down.

Susan smiled and said, "By the way, who’s the boss who sent the jewelry to Isabella tonight? Those two men seemed to really respect Isabella and Leon."

Hearing this, Seb frowned and didn't answer right away.

This made Susan even more curious. She asked, "Leon seems to have a lot of secrets. You must know, but you're not saying. Is it because you and Leon have a pact to keep things under wraps? Was there another reason why Leon left Isabella back then?"
