Chapter 1337 God Also Jokes

Later that evening, there was a gentle knock on the door.

Cecilia, worried about waking Thaddeus, quickly got up to answer it.

When she opened the door, she saw Elijah standing outside.

"Elijah?" Cecilia smiled. In the Fields family, Elijah was the only one she could truly rely on.

"Is Thaddeus still asleep?" Elijah glanced into the room.

"Yeah, he cried himself to sleep earlier. He'll probably be out for a few hours." Cecilia turned to look at Thaddeus, who was sleeping soundly on the bed.

"Would you care to come in?" Cecilia stepped aside to let Elijah in.

But Elijah shook his head. "No need. I just have a few things to say to you here."

"Alright." Cecilia nodded.

She understood that the Fields family was misunderstanding their relationship, and it wasn't wise for them to be alone together.

Elijah then said, "Cecilia, I want you to know that I'll be staying home for the foreseeable future. I won't be going anywhere. I'll be here to watch over you and Thaddeus."

Hearing this, Cecilia felt a wave of relief wash over her.

With Azalea's cunning and Daryl's unpredictable nature, she had no idea what might happen. She feared they might suddenly take Thaddeus away and hide him. If that happened, she would be powerless. Even with Freya by her side, they were no match for the numerous servants in the house.

Having Elijah's support changed everything. He was part of the Fields family, and she doubted they would dare to harm him. Plus, Azalea adored him.

"Thank you," Cecilia said sincerely.

Elijah had been helping her for years, and she was deeply grateful.

Elijah continued, "Don't blame my mom. She's just being protective of her grandson. She's wanted a grandchild for so many years, and now that she finally has one, she can't bear the thought of you taking Thaddeus away."

"I understand." Cecilia nodded. She could empathize with Azalea's feelings, but as a mother, she couldn't bear to be separated from Thaddeus.

"Alright, you're still not fully recovered. Get some rest. I'll have the family doctor come and check on you." Elijah said.

"Thank you," Cecilia replied.

Elijah smiled at her before turning to leave.

After Elijah left, Cecilia was about to retreat into her room when she noticed a figure standing in front of the room across the hall.

Daryl was standing in front of their former bedroom, wearing a white shirt, his eyes dark and brooding as he stared at her.

Cecilia felt a surge of disgust at his unpredictable gaze and quickly retreated into her room, closing the door firmly behind her, shutting out Daryl's view.

Living here had become the norm for Cecilia. The situation was at a stalemate, with neither Azalea nor Cecilia willing to back down. Both feared losing sight of Thaddeus, so the tension remained.

That afternoon, Azalea and Finn, brought a large bundle of items.

Entering the guest room, Azalea cast a cold glance at Cecilia before smiling and taking Thaddeus from her arms. "Thaddeus, look at all the things Grandma bought for you!"

Azalea kissed Thaddeus on the cheek.

Thaddeus had grown fond of his grandmother over the past few days, and his chubby little hands reached for Azalea's face, making her beam with joy.

Finn placed the numerous items on the bed.

Azalea showed each item to Thaddeus. "Look at this outfit, Thaddeus. It's perfect for you. And this formula, I had it brought in from overseas. These diapers are imported from Elaria. I didn't trust the ones in the stores, so I had friends bring them from Elaria. And these toys, do you like them?"

Azalea had bought many toys, but Thaddeus was too young to play with most of them, except for the rattle.

Workers then brought in a crib and placed it in the center of the guest room.

"This crib is specially bought for you by Grandma. Let's see if you like it." Azalea placed Thaddeus in the crib.

The crib had many hanging mobiles, and Thaddeus eagerly reached for them, looking very excited.

Despite the tension between Cecilia and Azalea, Cecilia appreciated Azalea's care for Thaddeus. She was grateful for Azalea's love for her son.

Cecilia said, "Doesn't your room already have a crib?"

Azalea glanced at Cecilia and replied, "What good is it if it's only in my room? Thaddeus isn't just in my room. He should have his own crib in your room too."

Though Azalea's tone wasn't pleasant, she was at least speaking reasonably. Though it was Cecilia who chose not to argue and remained silent, Azalea was the elder.

Azalea then said, "I'll take Thaddeus to my room to play for a while. You can tidy up here."

With that, Azalea cheerfully lifted Thaddeus from the crib. "Thaddeus, come play with Grandma downstairs!"

Azalea happily carried Thaddeus downstairs.

After Azalea left, Freya helped Cecilia organize the items Azalea had bought for Thaddeus.

"Mrs. Fields, the Fields family is so unfair to you. They only care about Thaddeus and don't respect you at all," Freya complained.

Cecilia replied, "It's alright, Freya. As long as they love Thaddeus and have his best interests at heart, that's all that matters. As for me, I'll eventually divorce Daryl. I won't be part of the Fields family forever."

Freya sighed, seeing Cecilia sitting by the window, a hint of sadness in her expression.

Since Freya moved back in, over a month had passed, Cecilia and Daryl had been avoiding each other.

Under the same roof, it was impossible to avoid each other forever. When they did see each other, they were cold and distant, not exchanging a single word or glance.

Cecilia was deeply hurt. Despite seeing Thaddeus, Daryl stubbornly refused to believe he was his child.

He even claimed his evidence was solid, saying no woman would give birth nearly a month past her due date.

Cecilia was speechless at this reasoning. Perhaps it was fate's cruel joke, placing this impossibility squarely on her shoulders.
