Chapter 858 Letting Go

Seb shook his head, trying to push away the crazy thoughts swirling in his mind.

He grabbed Ellie's shoulders and turned her to face him.

With a look of deep regret, Seb said, "Ellie, I don't know why, but ever since my car accident, I've been having trouble, you know, in the bedroom."

Ellie quickly covered his mouth with her hand.

"Don't say it. I know your injury was bad, or maybe it messed with your head. You need time to heal. It's my fault for rushing things. We've got all the time in the world, right?" Ellie said, looking at him with understanding.

"Yeah, we've got plenty of time." Seb nodded and pulled Ellie into a hug.

Seb felt a wave of guilt wash over him.

Since the accident, even though he and Ellie were together all the time, they hadn't been intimate.

First off, he had lost his memories of Ellie, so he didn't remember them ever being together like that.

But Ellie kept telling him they'd been close for over a year.

Secondly, even though he trusted Ellie, he just didn't feel that spark, that desire a guy usually had for a girl.

Seb once thought the accident had messed him up down there, making him unable to perform.

It was a huge blow to his pride, so he never talked about it. Lately, he didn't even care about sex; he had no drive at all.

But then, why did he feel that spark around Susan? Not just a spark, but actual physical reactions.

So, he wasn't broken; he was still a normal guy.

But why didn't he feel that way about Ellie?

Seb looked down at Ellie in his arms. She was just as attractive as Susan, maybe even more. It didn't make sense.

While Seb was lost in thought, Ellie suddenly looked up and smiled. "Oh, I forgot to check if I turned off the stove downstairs. I'll go take a look."

"I'll go," Seb said, grabbing her wrist.

For some reason, he always felt guilty towards Ellie, like he couldn't fully give her his heart, even though she took care of him so well.

Ellie smiled and said, "I'll go. You take a shower and get some rest; you have work tomorrow."

"Okay." Seb accepted her kindness as usual.

Ellie wrapped herself in a bathrobe and headed downstairs.

She wasn't really going to check the stove; she wanted to see if Susan had left.

There was no one behind the screen. Ellie checked the kitchen, dining room, study, and downstairs bedroom to make sure Susan was gone. Only then did she feel relieved.

It seemed Susan had left a while ago. Ellie couldn't help but lift her chin, a victorious smile spreading across her face.

After making sure all the doors and windows were locked, Ellie headed back upstairs.

The bedroom was empty, except for the sound of water running in the bathroom.

Ellie glanced towards the bathroom, knowing Seb was in the shower.

Her triumphant smile faded away.

She sat down on the bed slowly, her brows knitting together.

Seeing the slightly messy sheets, Ellie gripped a corner of the fabric tightly.

She had been trying for three months, taking care of Seb every day, showing him her best side.

Even though Seb trusted and cared for her deeply, he never felt any real passion or desire for her.

He hadn't even made love with her once, leaving Ellie feeling both disappointed and humiliated. It seemed like he wouldn't do it until their wedding day, and maybe not even then.

She couldn't just sit around and wait. If he remembered Susan one day, all her efforts would be for nothing.

The more Ellie thought about it, the more terrified and anxious she became.

Finally, she made a decision.

Ellie picked up her phone and quietly left the bedroom.

Out on the terrace, the summer night breeze was still warm. Ellie quickly dialed a number. "I'm worried things might change, so we'll go with Plan B. Schedule the doctor for tomorrow."

After the call, Ellie finally breathed a sigh of relief, hoping everything would go smoothly.

Susan wandered aimlessly through the night streets, like a ghost, drifting without purpose.

Before going to the villa, Susan was full of confidence, ready to win everything back. But after leaving, all her hopes were completely shattered.

There was no chance for her and Seb anymore; she had to let go.

Susan felt incredibly lonely. Even though it was midsummer, she felt cold.

She hugged herself, her eyes empty.

She missed her kids so much. They were the only ones who truly belonged to her now.

That night, Susan didn't even know how she got home.

She didn't sleep at all and finally made a decision.

She would leave Maple Valley, transfer the law firm to Dorothy, and buy a plane ticket straight to Northstar City to be with her kids.

She didn't know how long she would stay in Northstar City, but at least until Isabella had her baby or her own heart didn't hurt so much.

The next morning, after much thought, Susan decided to call Ellie.

"Hello?" As soon as the call was answered, Susan spoke first.

On the other end, Ellie seemed to have anticipated Susan's call, her voice elegant and steady, with a hint of deliberate pride. "Susan? I knew you would call me."

Susan had no energy to deal with Ellie's provocation and pride.

Ellie had completely won Seb's heart. Susan no longer cared about her provocations, as her own heart was already shattered.Ellie had completely won Seb's heart, so let her be proud. Susan would just be sad in private.

"I've decided to let go," Susan said.

This seemed to be within Ellie's expectations, and she laughed. "That's a smart choice."
