Chapter 493 Arguing in the Street

"So, people definitely shouldn't mess with someone like you, or they'll be in deep shit!" Susan joked.

"Glad you get it, so don't ever cross me," Isabella laughed.

As they were chatting, they heard the boutique manager calling Amelia to the front and starting to chew her out.

"Amelia, do you know we're a world-renowned brand store? Didn't you take this job 'cause the pay's better than other places? How could you treat a customer like that? You just lost us a client!" The manager, no longer in front of customers, looked sharp and mean, a total 180 from her earlier warm and attentive vibe.

Amelia, feeling wronged, defended herself, "Manager, they were just browsing and definitely wouldn't buy our $2,000 shoes."

The manager was livid. "Do you think I'm blind? The woman trying on the shoes had a bag worth tens of thousands, and the ring on her finger was at least hundreds of thousands. She's clearly loaded and wouldn't blink at $2,000 shoes. They were interested, but because of you, they didn't buy. They might've bought more than one pair!"

Hearing this, Amelia lowered her head and stayed quiet.

The manager, having vented her anger, gave Amelia a scornful look and said, "Think about this properly. If it happens again, you're out!"

With that, the manager turned and went back into the store.

Susan and Isabella, who had been watching, gave Amelia a cold look and then turned to leave.

Unexpectedly, Amelia stormed over. "Susan, hold up!"

Hearing Amelia call her name, Susan knew she couldn't dodge it, so she turned to face Amelia, who was now in front of her, and asked, "What do you want?"

Amelia, with her chin up and eyes slightly red, said, "Are you happy to see me in trouble?"

"Maybe if we switched places today, you'd be the one happy and kicking me while I'm down. But I'm not like you, so whatever happens to you today, whether it's karma or your own doing, has nothing to do with me. We're just strangers passing by," Susan said coldly, then took Isabella's hand and turned to leave.

Watching Susan and Isabella walk away, Amelia shouted angrily, "Susan, don't be too smug. Just wait and see, you might end up worse off than I am now!"

Hearing the shout behind her, Susan frowned but didn't want to engage further, feeling it was pointless.

However, Isabella wasn't willing to let it go. She turned and shouted back at Amelia, "Just wait and see!"

Amelia, furious, stomped her feet, then turned back to continue selling shoes.

After walking some distance, Isabella complained, "I was in such a good mood, and then we ran into that bitch!"

"It's not worth letting Amelia ruin our mood," Susan laughed.

At this point, Isabella turned to look at Susan for a while.

"Why are you staring at me? Is there something on my face?" Susan touched her face.

"Nah, just noticing how much you've changed. Back in the day, you would've gone toe-to-toe with Amelia, maybe even thrown some punches," Isabella praised.

Susan grinned, "Yeah, life's thrown me enough curveballs to teach me a thing or two."

Isabella suddenly pointed ahead, "Hey, there's another boutique up there. Let's see if they have the shoes you want."

"Sure, and I still need to get you a pair of bridesmaid shoes," Susan smiled.

Isabella's eyes lit up, "Sweet! I won't hold back then, haha."

An hour later, they walked out of the boutique, each loaded with shopping bags.

By now, the mall was glowing with neon lights, and the crowd was still buzzing.

"Man, it pays to shop around. This place had way better styles, especially the shoes for your wedding dress and evening gown. I'm pretty happy with my pair too, even if they did set you back over $2,000," Isabella laughed.

"Thank Seb for that; I used his card," Susan smirked.

"If that's the case, Seb is quite the looker," Isabella laughed.

Susan shook her head, "Wait until the wedding day when he transfers more money to you; he'll look even better."

"Of course," Isabella and Susan laughed as they walked.

"By the way, what should we eat?" Isabella asked, rubbing her hungry stomach.

"French cuisine?" Susan raised an eyebrow.

"Sure. My treat!" Isabella said boldly.

They happily headed to the French restaurant.

As they walked, Isabella suddenly pointed ahead, "Look, isn't that Amelia and Sophia?"

Susan stopped and looked. Sure enough, they were near the boutique where Amelia worked.

Not far from the entrance, Amelia and Sophia were arguing, gesturing wildly.

Susan frowned, thinking, 'What a coincidence. Running into Amelia again, and now Sophia too.'

The next moment, Isabella grabbed Susan's hand, "They seem to be arguing. Let's go see what's up."

Susan frowned, "What's there to see? Let's go eat."

"I'm just curious about what they're fighting over," Isabella said, pulling Susan along.

They couldn't just openly watch the argument, so they hid behind a large billboard near where Sophia and Amelia were standing. With so many people passing by, the two arguing women didn't notice them.

"I told you not to work here, didn't I? Why don't you listen?" Sophia said.

"Mom, if I don't work, what will we eat? Our bank accounts are frozen. We need money," Amelia said impatiently.

"I introduced you to a potential match with a family that owns a factory and property. If you marry him, you won't suffer, and I'll be taken care of. Why don't you listen?" Sophia said.
