Chapter 599 Deep Affection

After Andrew left, the surroundings suddenly became quiet.

Seeing Susan in a disheveled state, George stepped forward and said, "Shall I walk you upstairs?"

At this moment, Susan was still a bit shaken and afraid that Andrew might come back to pester her, so she nodded and agreed to let George escort her upstairs.

Once inside Susan's rented apartment, she turned on the light and wearily sat on the sofa, then said with a heavy heart, "Sit down. I'm not in the mood to get you water right now. If you're thirsty, there's bottled water in the kitchen."

After saying that, Susan held her head with her hand.

Seeing Susan's troubled expression, George silently sat on a sofa opposite her and softly said, "I'm not thirsty."

It was a long time before Susan managed to calm her tense and irritable mood. When she looked up, she met George's concerned eyes.

"Are you okay?"

"I'm fine. Thanks to you today." Susan pursed her lips, her smile a bit forced.

"You and Andrew..." George frowned, looking at Susan with puzzled eyes, but he didn't finish his question.

Susan, ever perceptive, didn't miss his meaning.

Then, Susan said, "Are you wondering how I got involved with Andrew? Or do you also think I'm the kind of woman who would get involved with my ex-husband's brother-in-law?"

Hearing Susan's self-mockery, George said firmly, "You know I wouldn't think that. I believe you must have your reasons."

Susan naturally understood how George had always viewed her and felt a bit regretful for her impulsive and annoyed words earlier.

Then, Susan said, "Before I met Seb, I had dated Andrew for three years."

Hearing this suddenly, George stared at Susan with wide eyes.

Seeing his surprised expression, Susan smiled and said, "Hard to believe, isn't it?"

"It is a bit unbelievable. Do Seb and Rylee know?" George hesitated and asked.

Susan shook her head, then held her head and said regretfully, "Actually, when I found out that Rylee's husband was Andrew, I should have told Seb. But I had too many concerns at that time, and by the time I wanted to, it felt like it was too late. Now, it's just a moot point."

George fell silent. Indeed, Susan and Seb were already divorced, so there was no need to bring it up. Saying it would only add to the troubles.

Then, Susan continued, "Andrew came today to persuade me to take Seb abroad for a while so he can make a play for control of Prosperity Group.""That ambitious, huh?" George mused. "Not surprising, I guess. Rylee inherited a large chunk of Carol's shares. Word is, together they have a slightly larger stake than Seb. Of course he wouldn't be content with playing second fiddle forever."

"Probably because I didn't agree, he got angry. The fact that he came to me shows that he currently has no way to deal with Seb, so for now, I'm not worried that he will harm Seb," Susan said.

"Even if he has a few more shares, so what? It was Seb who made Prosperity Group flourish. Andrew hasn’t been here that long; he's not worth worrying about. You can rest assured," George said.

At this moment, Susan suddenly thought of something and looked up at George.

"Why are you looking at me like that?" George felt a bit guilty under her gaze.

Then, Susan directly asked, "Why were you downstairs at my place?"

If it were in another public place, George could say he happened to pass by, but just now it was downstairs at her place, within the community. That couldn't be a coincidence.

Could it be that he had been keeping an eye on her? Thinking of this, Susan felt a bit uncomfortable.

Although he had helped her out just now, otherwise she wouldn't know how to get away, George was still overly enthusiastic about her.

Hearing the question, George hesitated for a moment, then nodded and admitted. "I know you recently divorced Seb, and I know you must be feeling down. I was worried about you, so sometimes, just sometimes, you know I'm usually very busy, I would watch you from afar. Knowing you're okay puts me at ease."

Hearing this, Susan didn't know what to say.

Because George didn't hide it and admitted it openly.

Seeing Susan not speaking, George quickly said, "Don't worry, I still mean what I said. I have no other intentions. I just can't help but care about you. And I think my concern as a friend is useful, as today's incident proves. Susan, please don't reject my goodwill. I promise, if you ever find someone else, I'll disappear from your life completely."

With the conversation reaching this point, Susan naturally had nothing more to say.

Because even if George promised today not to follow her or watch her from afar, whether he could do it was another matter.

The next moment, Susan looked up and met George's gaze, calmly saying, "George, I just want to tell you, I won't fall in love with anyone else."

Hearing this, George frowned slightly and smiled bitterly. "I understand that very well. I'm not delusional enough to think you'll suddenly fall for me now, after all this time. We both know that ship has sailed."

At this moment, Susan smiled and said, "It's good that you understand. It's late, I won't keep you. I don't want to cause unnecessary trouble."

Susan's eyes looked out at the deep night outside, her words cold and hard.

Hearing this, George awkwardly stood up, his expression a bit unnatural as he smiled and said, "Then I'm leaving."

After saying that, George walked to the door.

Holding the doorknob, he turned his back to Susan and said, "If you have any trouble, I still hope you can call me. After all, you wouldn't want to trouble Seb, right?"

After saying that, George waited for a long time without getting Susan's approval.

George looked up and smiled bitterly, then pushed the door open and left!

After the door closed, Susan looked up in the direction of the door.

Knowing he had left, Susan wearily leaned back on the sofa.

Susan felt extremely tired, a weariness of the heart. Having lived for over thirty years, she considered herself self-respecting and self-loving, but she didn't expect to be entangled with these three men, and now it seemed none of them were her final destination.
