Chapter 1378 Handsome Men and Beautiful Women

In the next moment, Cecilia and Daryl were pushed together, standing side by side, their bodies touching.

Cecilia frowned slightly, feeling particularly awkward.

Elowen looked at Daryl and Cecilia standing together and couldn't help but clap her hands, exclaiming, "You two look so good together! Such a cute couple!"

"Totally!" Elijah chimed in from the side.

Cecilia's face blushed, and she was about to step aside when her arm brushed against Daryl's, making her uncomfortable.

But before she could move, Daryl stepped forward, unbuttoning his tuxedo jacket. "The best man and maid of honor are just supporting roles. The bride and groom are the real stars."

Seeing his distant demeanor, Cecilia glanced at Daryl, only to find his gaze meeting hers.

Their eyes locked for a brief moment, and Cecilia felt a tightness in her chest before she quickly looked away.

She didn't know if Daryl was still looking at her, but she felt incredibly awkward, especially in her off-shoulder dress, so she instinctively hugged her arms.

Seeing this, Elowen quickly pulled Elijah aside. "Elijah, I think there's a dress that still needs some adjustments. Let's go try it on again and see what needs to be fixed."

Elijah met Elowen's gaze and nodded understandingly. "Yeah, Daryl, Cecilia, we'll go check on the dress. You two hang out here, and we'll be back soon!"

With that, Elijah took Elowen's hand and left.

For a moment, the room was left with just Daryl, Cecilia, and the two female attendants, who stood by like statues.

The room was silent, and Cecilia felt like she could hear her own breathing. It was so quiet that even a pin drop would be audible.

Cecilia didn't understand why, even now, she still felt so nervous facing him. He stood in front of her, familiar yet strange, making her heart race.

To hide her unease, Cecilia turned to herself in the mirror, shifting from side to side.

The dress was nice in both color and style, and Cecilia didn't feel like trying on any others.

Daryl's gaze swept over her, probably guessing that she was indecisive, so he said, "You look beautiful in that dress."

Suddenly hearing his voice behind her, Cecilia paused, placing a hand on her chest. "Thanks."

She didn't know how to respond. Was he complimenting her?

He was standing right behind her, and Cecilia felt like she could hear his breathing.

She lifted her eyes and met his gaze in the mirror. His eyes were fixed on her back.

At that moment, Cecilia felt a bit panicked.

His eyes were deep, with a hint of melancholy. Yes, that kind of sadness had become part of his demeanor over the past two years.

Cecilia lowered her gaze, unsure of what to say.

The next moment, Daryl's low voice came from behind, but it wasn't directed at her.

"This one will do," he said to the attendant.

The attendant quickly stepped forward with a smile. "Alright."

Daryl nodded and then headed to the changing room.

Cecilia watched his reflection disappear through a door, feeling a sense of relief.

The attendant approached Cecilia with a smile. "Ms. Thorne, would you like to try on the other dresses?"

Cecilia smiled and shook her head. "No, this one is fine."

The attendant asked thoughtfully, "Ms. Thorne, is there anything about this dress that you're not satisfied with? I can have the tailor make adjustments."

Cecilia shook her head. "I think it's perfect as it is."

"Alright then," the attendant smiled.

Cecilia then went into the changing room to take off the dress.

After changing back into her own clothes, Cecilia left the changing room and found the attendant. "Could you please let the bride and groom know that I need to go see my son, so I won't be able to say goodbye?"

"Of course, Ms. Thorne," the attendant nodded.

Cecilia then took the elevator down.

She was eager to see Thaddeus and also wanted to avoid running into Daryl again. She had already guessed Elijah and Elowen's intentions.

No wonder Elowen had insisted on her being the maid of honor. They had invited Daryl to be the best man, clearly trying to set her up with him. It was possible that Daryl had asked them to create this opportunity.

The elevator doors opened.

Cecilia stepped out and immediately saw a familiar figure ahead.

Seeing the tall figure in front of her, Cecilia stopped in her tracks.

Daryl was walking ahead in a black cashmere coat, with Douglas always three steps behind him.

Seeing them, Cecilia deliberately stayed in place for a few minutes, waiting until she was sure they had left before stepping out of the lobby.

Standing on the street, Cecilia realized the area was quite remote. There weren't many cars passing by, let alone taxis.

After waiting for a few minutes without seeing a single taxi, Cecilia decided to start walking in one direction, hoping to find a taxi along the way.

After walking for about five minutes, Cecilia suddenly heard a car behind her. She stopped and turned around.

A black luxury car suddenly braked and stopped right in front of her!

Cecilia frowned, not recognizing the black Mercedes.

The next moment, the driver's window rolled down, revealing Douglas's face.

Seeing Douglas, Cecilia furrowed her brows.

She realized the car must belong to Daryl, and he was likely in the back seat.

Of course, after all these years, Daryl must have changed cars.

Cecilia couldn't help but think, 'No matter how much I try to avoid him, I still can't escape.'

Douglas smiled, "Ms. Thorne, it's hard to find a taxi here. Let me give you a ride."

Cecilia smiled, "No, thank you."

Hearing her refusal, Douglas frowned slightly and said, "Ms. Thorne, the nearest bus stop is two miles away. Please, let me take you there."
