Chapter 156 Figured It Out
Seb stood by the big window, staring outside.
Cynthia walked in, saw him, and said coldly, "She's been gone an hour. Staring won't bring her back."
Ignoring her, Seb asked, "I did everything you wanted. Can I have Hayden back now?"
Cynthia smirked, walked up, and said, "He's fine. You'll see him in a few days."
Seb spun around, grabbed her shoulders, and growled, "Don't mess with me, Cynthia, or you'll regret it."
"I'm not messing with you. You did what I asked, but until we're married, I can't trust you. What if you cancel the wedding after I give Hayden back?" Cynthia stared him down, unfazed.
Seb tightened his grip, but Cynthia didn't flinch. She smiled and said, "You're omnipotent, but finding Hayden won't be easy. My dad's old military buddies are guarding him. He's safe."
Seb's eyes turned cold. "Where is he?"
"Hayden left Maple Valley ages ago. I'll send you a video tonight. He's fine, still playful and cute," Cynthia said with a cold smile.
Seb slowly let go of her shoulders.
Cynthia smiled up at him. "If you want to see Hayden sooner, get ready for our wedding. He can sleep with us on our wedding night."
Seb frowned but, thinking of Hayden, agreed. "Next week."
Cynthia nodded, pleased. "I want a grand wedding."
"Fine. Now leave. I need to be alone," Seb said, looking away.
Cynthia, satisfied, left the room.
Seb lit a cigarette, staring out the window, deep in thought.
That morning, during a meeting, Cynthia called. He ignored it, tired of her games.
Then she sent a photo of Hayden, saying she had him. Hayden was Seb's world. Seeing the photo, he panicked.
He ended the meeting and rushed to meet Cynthia at the spot she mentioned.
Turned out, after he put Cynthia on the plane last time, she never left and stayed in Maple Valley.
Realizing he'd been tricked, Seb was furious, but with Hayden in her hands, he couldn't risk it. He had to play along, holding a press conference to announce their engagement and telling Susan he couldn't marry her because he loved Cynthia.
It broke his heart to face Susan, but he had to follow Cynthia's orders. Hayden's safety was his priority.
Susan was strong, and with Isabella's support, she could handle it. Seb just needed to find Hayden, deal with Cynthia, and then explain everything to Susan. He believed she'd forgive him.
But Cynthia had hired a professional bodyguard company and moved Hayden out of Maple Valley, complicating things.
After some deep thought, Seb stubbed out his cigarette, grabbed his coat, and headed out.
As he left, Cynthia approached. "Where are you going?"
"The company needs me. I can't just ignore it," Seb replied, still angry.
Cynthia smiled. "A man should focus on his career. I'll come with you!"
She turned to get her coat. Seb knew she didn't trust him, but he had no choice.
They left together.
Meanwhile, Isabella took Susan back to their apartment.
Susan lay in bed for three days, crying until she couldn't anymore.
For the first time, she felt utter despair, a feeling she'd never experienced despite past setbacks. She decided she'd never believe in love again.
But life had to go on. She had to pull herself together. Seb wasn't worth it.
On the fourth morning, Susan had an epiphany.
She walked to the mirror and saw a mess: tangled hair, swollen eyes, and a disheveled face.
Disgusted, she grabbed a comb, untangled her hair, took a hot shower, and scrubbed herself clean, as if saying goodbye to her old self.
She threw away all the bedding Seb had touched and replaced it with fresh sheets.
By the time she finished, it was 3 PM. Exhausted and sweaty, she realized she hadn't eaten.
She hadn't eaten much in the past three days, feeling weightless.
It was just getting rid of a jerk; she shouldn't punish herself. So, she made herself some food.
