Chapter 1301 Each with Their Own Thoughts

Hearing this, Cecilia tried to joke, "No need."

"Why not?" Daryl frowned.

"This place must be pricey. If you call me a spendthrift again, that'd be awful!" Cecilia forced a smile.

Daryl chuckled softly at her words.

Cecilia watched Daryl's smiling face, her own smile freezing in place.

Forced smiles were worse than tears—all night, her cheeks ached from the effort, her face locked in some awful plastic imitation of happiness.

She didn't want him to see her unhappy, but she couldn't fake it well. She could only try her best to look a bit happier.

At that moment, Daryl was staring at his steak, lost in thought.

Cecilia, preoccupied with her own thoughts, didn't notice Daryl's unusual behavior.

Azalea's words had been on her mind for days, but she couldn't make a decision.

She admitted she was wavering. Maybe she just needed a reason to leave.

She loved Daryl. Because she loved him, she didn't want to leave him with only pain. She didn't want him to grow old and die alone, without any family. That would be too cruel.

Though leaving would be cruel to both herself and Daryl, she believed that suffering would eventually pass.

Daryl was still young. He could find new love, a new marriage, and have children. Maybe, in time, he would find happiness again. When he grew old, he would have a partner by his side, children to care for him, and even grandchildren to enjoy.

Cecilia was already thinking about when she should leave. But looking at the man in front of her, she couldn't make up her mind.

She couldn't bear to leave him.

Suddenly, Daryl received a phone call.

"Do I really need to go myself? Can't the VP handle it? Let's discuss this tomorrow. I'm having dinner with my wife." Daryl said a few words into the phone and then hung up.

Cecilia looked at Daryl and asked, "Are you going on a business trip?"

Daryl replied, "There's an important negotiation in Skyhaven in a couple of days. The board wants me to go personally, but I suggested sending the VP instead."

Cecilia frowned. "If the board wants you to go, you shouldn't refuse. You don't want to upset Dad."

"It'll take a week. I don't want to leave you." Daryl held Cecilia's hand, his eyes filled with reluctance.

Meeting Daryl's gaze, Cecilia felt a mix of emotions, her eyes brimming with tears.

She quickly smiled and said, "It's just a week. Why are you so clingy now? Work is important. Go ahead, a week will pass quickly."

Daryl paused, then frowned. "I thought you'd miss me. You're surprisingly generous."

Cecilia pulled her hand back and smiled. "I'm not that petty."

In her mind, Cecilia was already considering whether she should leave while he was in Skyhaven.

But the thought of it made her heart ache unbearably.

Then, Daryl suddenly changed the subject. "By the way, Dad and Mom are worried about Elijah's marriage. If you know any suitable girls, you could introduce them to Elijah."

Cecilia looked up at Daryl. "You want me to play matchmaker for Elijah?"

"Yeah, you're my wife, and he's my brother. You should help the Fields family." Daryl said, watching Cecilia's surprised expression.

"But I don't know what type Elijah likes!" Cecilia spread her hands and smiled.

Cecilia had a good impression of Elijah. He was handsome and talented, and in a family like the Fields, he had seen it all. Ordinary girls probably wouldn't catch his eye.

Daryl stared at Cecilia. "As long as she's like you, I think he'll like her."

Cecilia frowned. "Why someone like me?"

Daryl took a big sip of wine and answered deeply, "We brothers have similar tastes. I think you're his type."

Cecilia couldn't help but laugh. "Hey, just because you like a certain type doesn't mean he does too. Alright, if I find a suitable girl, I'll introduce her to Elijah. But I don't know anyone right now. Elijah is an artistic soul. People like him usually don't go for arranged dates. He'll probably meet someone by chance who moves him."

"Let's hope so." Daryl nodded and then focused on his steak, silent for a long time.

Cecilia rested her chin in her hand, watching him. Suddenly, she felt they had nothing to say to each other. She just wanted him to sit with her, because such opportunities would be rare in the future. She wanted to look at him as much as she could.

Two days later, one afternoon, Daryl suddenly returned to the Fields Mansion.

Cecilia, lying on the bed reading a magazine, was startled to see him.

"Why are you back?" Cecilia put down the magazine and sat up.

Seeing Cecilia's surprised expression, Daryl frowned. "Why are you so shocked that I'm back?"

"It's just, you never come home during work. I thought something urgent happened." Cecilia quickly put on her shoes and walked over to him.

Staring at Cecilia, Daryl hesitated before saying, "I have to go to Skyhaven, so I came back to pack."

Cecilia was stunned for a couple of seconds.

She had thought Daryl might go to Skyhaven, but she didn't expect it to be so soon and sudden. She was caught off guard, her mind in chaos.

"What's wrong?" Daryl asked, seeing Cecilia's dazed look.

Realizing her lapse, Cecilia quickly said, "Nothing. Why the sudden trip?"

"Skyhaven is pressing. I thought I wouldn't need to go, but the negotiations hit a deadlock. Only I can resolve it." Daryl turned away, opening the closet.

Staring at the clothes in the closet, Daryl closed his eyes for a moment, gripping the closet door tightly.
