Chapter 522 Restlessness
Susan never thought Catherine would sneak off to the rehab center to look after Todd again.
Susan was kinda pissed, but she kept it cool in front of Dorothy and Amanda.
Catherine knew Susan was angry inside, so she quickly grabbed her hand and said, "Let me walk you out. Dorothy, you stay with Amanda."
"Okay," Dorothy nodded, totally focused on Amanda, not even noticing the tension between Catherine and Susan.
As soon as they hit the first floor, Susan stormed out of the elevator.
Catherine followed her, and Susan spun around with a stern face, saying, "Mom, didn't you promise me you wouldn't go see Todd? I've been gone for just ten days, and you're back at the rehab center again? Now Carol's in Maple Valley too. What if she gives you a hard time? What then?"
"Can you keep it down?" Catherine looked around nervously, relieved no one was around.
"Why don't you get it? If something happens, how am I supposed to explain it to Seb?" Susan said, rubbing her head in frustration.
"I get it, I really do, but I just can't help myself. You and Seb were in Averlake, Carol never visited, and Rylee was busy with her own stuff. I thought he's so lonely and pitiful. I can't just leave him to the caregiver!" Catherine looked both resentful and helpless.
Susan knew Catherine was telling the truth, so she softened her tone. "Mom, Todd's got plenty of family; you don't need to worry about him."
"I know, but..." Catherine trailed off, not knowing what to say.
Seeing Catherine's troubled expression, Susan's heart softened. She stepped forward and patted Catherine's shoulder, saying, "Mom, I'm sorry for being harsh earlier. I'm just worried that if something happens, we won't be able to handle it."
Hearing this, Catherine said, "Don't worry. Now that you and Seb are back, I won't go to the rehab center anymore."
Susan could see that Catherine had made up her mind and didn't want to be too harsh. "Amanda's back too, so spend more time with her at Dorothy's. I gotta go now."
"Okay," Catherine nodded, watching Susan leave.
Susan hailed a cab and headed straight to the hotel.
As soon as she got out of the cab, she saw Seb waiting at the hotel entrance.
Seeing Susan approach, Seb walked up and adjusted her cashmere coat, smiling and asking, "You cold?"
"No," Susan shook her head.
"Let's go inside," Seb said, wrapping his arm around Susan's waist as they entered the hotel.
In the private room, Todd was already there, sitting in his wheelchair. He was stoked to see them, and Andrew and Rylee quickly stood up to greet them.
"Dad, we brought you some gifts from Averlake," Susan said to Todd with a smile.
At that moment, Leon came in carrying several shopping bags and handed the gifts to Todd.
"Andrew, Rylee, Susan brought gifts for you too," Seb said with a grin.
Rylee grabbed a box from Leon's hand and beamed, "An Elysian Leather bag! Susan, you really went all out this time!"
"As long as you like it," Susan replied, smiling.
Rylee pulled the handbag out of the box, looked it over, and squealed, "It's the latest model from Elysian Leather this year, worth a fortune. Honestly, I've been eyeing it for a while but couldn't bring myself to buy it. Susan, you're the best!"
With that, Rylee linked her arm with Susan's.
Seeing Rylee's innocent smile, Susan patted her long hair. Rylee was indeed very pure-hearted, a bit temperamental but kind, unlike Carol's shrewdness and harshness. Honestly, Susan liked Rylee a lot.
Then, Seb and the others took their seats.
Andrew smiled at Seb and said, "Seb, when do you think would be a good time for me to start work?"
Hearing this, Seb asked, "Have you bought a house yet? There's no rush. Settle in first, and then start work. You just got back from Averlake and need to adjust to Maple Valley."
Andrew replied with a smile, "Mom already helped us buy a house. The place is nicely decorated, and we've tidied it up a bit. We're moving in tomorrow. As a man, I should take on the responsibility of supporting the family as soon as possible, so I want to start work quickly."
Hearing this, Susan glanced at Andrew. He was overly deferential to Seb. Shouldn't a scholar have some pride? But Andrew showed none.
At this point, Seb said, "In that case, settle in tomorrow and report to the company the day after."
"Thank you, Seb," Andrew said, overjoyed.
Rylee suddenly linked her arm with Andrew's and playfully said to Seb, "Seb, make sure to keep an eye on Andrew at Prosperity Group. Don't let any other girls flirt him away!"
"How could that happen? You're the only one I love," Andrew quickly assured Rylee.
"That's more like it," Rylee said, her eyes full of affection for Andrew.
Susan could see that Rylee loved Andrew deeply, willing to sacrifice everything for love, even more so than she had back in the day.
She hoped Andrew truly loved Rylee. Otherwise, if he was in it for money and benefits, Rylee would end up hurt, and it might even affect her.
Susan felt troubled. How had she and Andrew ended up as family again? Fate was playing tricks on her.
Looking at Rylee, Seb shook his head with a smile. "Such a child!"
Then Seb asked, "Why isn't Mom here yet?"
"She said she had to make a call and told us to come down first," Rylee replied.
"I'll call her," Seb said, just as the door to the private room opened.
Carol, adorned in jewelry, walked in with a stern face.
She quickly walked to the dining table and slammed a newspaper down onto it!
