Chapter 1252 Country Folk

"Godmother!" Skylar called out, grinning.

"Yes, sweetie," Azalea replied, her face lighting up.

As soon as Skylar got home, she threw herself onto the couch, clearly upset.

Seeing this, Charlotte asked, "Did you find out? Is Daryl really marrying that woman?"

"And his parents are on board with it," Skylar replied, her expression darkening.

Charlotte sighed. "Honey, maybe it's time to let go."

Skylar turned to her mother, stubbornly saying, "Mom, Daryl hasn't married that tramp yet. There's still a chance things could change. Even if they do get married, so what? Their family backgrounds are so different that their marriage won't last. I'll wait for the day they get divorced!"

Charlotte frowned. "Why put yourself through this? Why can't you just move on?"

"Mom, Daryl's parents aren't thrilled about this marriage. They only agreed because they had no choice. Daryl's mom is a tough cookie. With her around, they won't be happy. They might not last long before they split up," Skylar said with a sinister tone.

"Is Daryl really worth all this?" Charlotte asked, feeling indignant for her daughter.

"Mom, Daryl is my lifelong dream. I won't be at peace until I have him. Don't worry, Azalea has taken me in as her goddaughter. I'll be around the Fields family often. That tramp won't have it easy!" Skylar clenched her fists.

"If you're so determined, I can only support you. But remember, don't do anything that will hurt yourself. That way, I'll be at ease," Charlotte sighed, seeing her daughter's stubbornness.

Hearing this, Skylar hugged her mother.

One morning, in the break room, Marcella was bombarding Cecilia with questions.

"You're getting married next month? Congrats! By the way, have you picked your bridesmaids? How about choosing me?" Marcella said with a smile.

Cecilia laughed. "You're my only unmarried close friend. Next month is a bit rushed, so I can't go with you to try on bridesmaid dresses. Here's the address. Go pick one out. They have dresses, shoes, and some costume jewelry."

Marcella took the card Cecilia handed her and glanced at it, her mouth dropping open. "Wow, this is the most upscale bridal shop in Maple Valley. You're so lucky!"

Just then, Cecilia's phone rang.

Seeing it was Daryl calling, Cecilia smiled. "I need to take this call."

"Your prince charming?" Marcella teased.

"Yep," Cecilia said with a grin, then motioned for Marcella to leave the break room.

Cecilia answered the call, her voice sweet. "Hey there!"

"What are you up to?" Daryl's distinctive voice came through.

"Hiding in the break room to talk to you," Cecilia laughed.

Even just talking on the phone filled Cecilia's heart with happiness. She was completely smitten, lost in her love for Daryl.

Hearing this, Daryl chuckled.

"Aren't you busy today?" Cecilia asked.

"No matter how busy I am, I always make time to call you," Daryl replied.

Cecilia smiled. "You better keep that up, or what if I run away?"

"So, after we get married, I can just ignore you?" Daryl teased.

"You wouldn't dare!" Cecilia shot back.

"I wouldn't, and I couldn't bear to," Daryl said sweetly.

After a moment of laughter, Daryl suddenly shared some news that made Cecilia tense up.

"By the way, my parents want to meet your family for a meal. It's our family's formal proposal."

Cecilia was silent for a moment, then said hesitantly, "Daryl, you know my family's situation. My mom and brother's family aren't used to this. Our families meeting for a meal would be awkward. Can we skip it?"

Cecilia was worried her family would be looked down upon. She didn't mind being mistreated herself, but she didn't want her family to suffer.

Daryl tried to reassure her. "We should have our families meet before the wedding. Otherwise, there might be issues at the ceremony. Don't worry, I'll talk to my mom beforehand."

"Alright. When should we do it?" Cecilia reluctantly agreed.

"This Sunday at noon. I'll send a car to pick up your family," Daryl said.

"Okay," Cecilia nodded, but she was still very worried.

Sunday noon arrived quickly. The Fields family, Daryl, and Cecilia were already at the hotel.

Isaac sat at the head of the table, Azalea beside him, and Cecilia across from Azalea. Daryl stood by the window, checking his watch.

Azalea's face was already sour. "Country folks have no sense of time. So uncouth!"

Cecilia felt like she was sitting on pins and needles.

Daryl quickly explained, "Mom, there was an accident on the road. They're stuck in traffic."

"They should have left earlier for such a long trip!" Azalea grumbled.

"Mom, it's my fault. I didn't think it through. I only sent the car this morning," Daryl took the blame.

"Don't they have their own car? You had to send one? Ridiculous," Azalea shot Cecilia a disdainful look.

Cecilia's face darkened, her brows furrowing.

Isaac intervened, "We have nothing else to do. Waiting a bit longer won't hurt. Stop complaining."

Azalea finally fell silent.

Soon, Douglas opened the door and announced, "Ms. Thorne's family is here!"

Cecilia quickly stood up and went to the door, where her family had just entered.

Cecilia greeted them, noticing Beau carrying a burlap sack and her mom holding a woven basket.

Rainey immediately approached Azalea, warmly saying, "Mrs. Fields, thank you for inviting us. We brought some eggs from our chickens as a small gift."

Rainey offered the basket to Azalea.
