Chapter 961 I Can't Bear Your Love
The velvet box toppled over, and the diamond ring rolled onto the floor.
Isabella shot Leon a cold look. "Leon, what do you think I am? Someone you can just summon whenever you want?"
"Isabella, my love for you is real," Leon said, frowning as he looked up at her.
Isabella sneered. "I can't afford your kind of love!"
With that, she turned and struggled to go upstairs, holding her waist.
Watching her awkward movements, Leon's eyes filled with pain and sorrow. He carefully picked up the diamond ring and the velvet box from the floor, gently placed the ring back in the box, and then tucked the box back into his suit pocket.
Isabella returned to her room, and the strong, calm facade she had maintained instantly crumbled.
She locked the door, sat by the bedside, and tears streamed down her face.
Isabella had thought he would never appear before her again. She had resolved to give birth to the child alone and raise it by herself.
But unexpectedly, not only did he appear before her, but he also proposed with a ring.
Isabella couldn't accept his capricious and inconsistent behavior. She knew best how deeply he had hurt her that day, and she would never forgive him, no matter what his intentions were in seeking reconciliation this time.
Night quickly fell, and the room remained unlit. Isabella sat in the dark, her hand on her belly, staring blankly and sorrowfully out the window.
Soon, Kathy's voice came from outside the door. "Ms. Brown, dinner is ready. Would you like to come down and eat?"
Hearing this, Isabella replied towards the door, "I'm not hungry, I don't want to eat."
Kathy paused for a moment before earnestly persuading, "Ms. Brown, you're not alone anymore. Even if you're not hungry, your baby needs to eat. I made your favorite dishes, so please come down and have a little. You don't want the baby to feel uncomfortable all night!"
Just as if the baby understood Kathy's words, Isabella felt a flutter in her belly and realized she was a bit hungry.
"I'll be right down," Isabella reluctantly said to Kathy outside.
"I'll go serve the food then," Kathy said, satisfied.
At this moment, there was actually another person standing beside Kathy outside the door.
Hearing Isabella agree to come down for dinner, Leon smiled at Kathy and then quickly made a shushing gesture, afraid that Isabella inside would hear that he was also there.
Kathy smiled and left, while Leon took a deep, affectionate look at the door before quietly following Kathy downstairs.
Five minutes later, Isabella appeared in the dining room.
By then, Kathy had already set six dishes and a soup on the dining table, and the aroma of the food filled the room.
Seeing Isabella arrive, Leon quickly stepped forward and pulled out a chair for her.
Isabella glanced at Leon, ignored his gesture, turned, and pulled out another chair herself before sitting down.
Seeing this, Leon didn't insist and sat down in the chair opposite Isabella with a smile.
At this moment, Kathy placed the utensils in front of Leon and Isabella and said with a smile, "Mr. Johnson, Ms. Brown, enjoy your meal. I'll go eat in my room. My son said he would call me today."
Leon and Isabella both nodded, understanding that Kathy was giving them some space.
After Kathy left, the dining room fell into an awkward silence.
Isabella looked up at Leon, her eyes cold. "Why did you suddenly come to Northstar City?"
Leon casually picked up his utensils, meeting her sharp gaze. "I took a long leave to be with you and the baby."
Isabella's anger flared. "I'll say it again: the baby and I don't need you. Leave now. Seeing you ruins my mood!"
Leon didn't seem fazed. Instead, he ate more cheerfully. "You're Susan's friend, and I'm Mr. Anderson's friend. We're both allowed to stay here, so you can't kick me out."
Isabella's fury boiled over. "What did you say? You're staying here?"
"Yep, in the room next to yours. Kathy already put my luggage there," Leon said with a smile.
Hearing this, Isabella panicked and stood up abruptly, forgetting about her swollen belly. The sudden movement caused a sharp pain.
"Leon, you're doing this on purpose..." she started, but then clutched her belly in pain.
Leon panicked, quickly moving to support her. "What's wrong? Where do you feel uncomfortable? I'll take you to the hospital right away!"
Isabella pushed him away, slowly sitting back down. "Go away, I don't need your concern!"
Leon felt a wave of guilt. He shouldn't have upset her, especially while she was pregnant.
He stood there, eyes filled with concern, watching her expression.
A minute later, Isabella felt a bit better.
Seeing her relax, Leon felt slightly relieved.
He sat back down and gently pointed to the food. "If you don't eat soon, it'll get cold."
"Seeing you makes me lose my appetite!" Isabella snapped.
Leon, having learned his lesson, didn't push her further. He smiled softly. "Kathy made these dishes especially for you. Do you really want me to eat them all?"
Isabella glared at him, thinking, 'It's not worth starving myself and the baby just to spite him.'
So, she picked up her utensils and started eating.
During the meal, Isabella didn't look at Leon once, acting as if he didn't exist.
Leon, however, barely ate. He kept watching her from across the table. Even though she ignored him, he was happy just to see her.
These past few months, he had missed her terribly. He could only get updates through Susan. He missed her every day, but he had to suppress all his longing.
