Chapter 849 Relentless Pursuit
Susan was caught off guard when she got a call from Leon.
"A nightclub?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
The nightclub was a sketchy place that she rarely went to. She felt uneasy about heading there to find Seb.
Leon continued, "Ms. Wilson, Mr. Anderson has been laying low lately, canceling almost all his social events. With his wedding to Ellie coming up, this might be your last shot to see him."
Without missing a beat, Susan replied, "I'll be there soon."
"I'll wait for you outside the club," Leon said before hanging up.
Susan had only been to a nightclub a couple of times, mostly to drag a drunk Seb out. These places were playgrounds for men, filled with hookers and gold diggers. A lone woman could easily get unwanted attention.
But she couldn't overthink it; this was her last chance.
Seb had shown some interest in her before. Even though the odds were slim, Susan wanted to give it one last try. Otherwise, she and Seb were over.
Twilight Club was an old, upscale spot in Maple Valley. Men needed memberships to get in, but women just had to look stylish and classy to breeze past security.
Susan quickly dug through her closet and found a long black dress.
She had bought it years ago for a banquet with Seb, never thinking it would come in handy now.
She slipped into the dress, pinned up her hair, and put on some silver tassel earrings. A bit of makeup and pink pearlescent lipstick later, she looked stunning in the mirror.
Grabbing her golden purse, she headed out the door without a second thought.
She flagged down a taxi and told the driver to take her to Twilight Club.
In the cab, she noticed the driver giving her curious glances.
She adjusted her low-cut neckline, aware that her outfit and destination might give the wrong impression.
'If even the driver thinks this, Seb might too. Will he judge me for this?' she wondered, feeling a bit uneasy.
But she had no other choice. This was her only shot to see him, so she decided to go for it.
Soon, they arrived at Twilight Club.
After paying, she stepped out of the car.
Leon approached her immediately.
"Mr. Anderson has been inside for about half an hour," he said.
Susan nodded. "Thanks, Leon."
"Hurry up. This might be your last shot. Mr. Anderson and Ellie will soon be swamped with wedding stuff like photos, dress fittings, and rehearsals. He won't be out much," Leon urged.
"I get it," Susan replied, feeling a knot of nerves in her stomach.
"I'll be right here the whole time. If you run into any trouble, just call me, and I'll come in to help," Leon reassured her.
This was Susan's biggest worry. Nightclubs were full of guys looking to have a good time, often drunk, and a single woman could easily get into a sticky situation.
Leon's thoughtfulness made her feel a bit more at ease. "Thanks, Leon," she said, nodding before heading into the Twilight Club.
The security guards at the door gave her a quick once-over and let her in without a second thought.
As she stepped inside, Susan took a deep breath, her nerves jangling.
The nightclub was dimly lit, filled with flashing lights, and the air was thick with laughter, cursing, and the clinking of glasses. Waiters darted around with trays of drinks.
In the center, couples were dancing closely on the dance floor, making the place feel like a different world.
Susan scanned the room but didn't see Seb, which made her even more anxious.
She turned to look elsewhere and accidentally bumped into someone.
"Sorry," she mumbled, trying to move away.
But the person grabbed her wrist.
Feeling the grip, Susan, already on edge, immediately cried out, "Let go."
She looked up and saw a familiar face in the dim light.
"It's you!" The middle-aged man in front of her looked surprised.
Susan couldn't place him at first and frowned. "Do I know you?"
"Aren't you the waiter from that day? What are you doing here? Changed jobs?" the man asked with a grin.
Suddenly, it clicked. The man was Marc, who had played bowling with Seb at the private club that day.
"Yes," Susan nodded, trying to pull her hand back.
But Marc held on and smiled. "I want to take you to see someone."
With that, Marc started pulling her towards a corner.
Susan struggled and said, "Mr. Murray, I'm here to find a friend. Please let go of me!"
"Find a friend? Who are you looking for?" Marc asked, still smiling.
"I..." Susan hesitated, then it hit her. 'If Marc is here, could the person he wants to take me to see be Seb?'
Her heart raced with a mix of excitement and nerves.
"Mr. Murray, who are you taking me to see?" she asked, unable to hide her curiosity.
Marc smiled mysteriously. "You'll see."
He led her through the crowd.
Susan followed, hoping the person Marc was taking her to was indeed Seb.
After a short walk, Marc brought her to a quieter corner.
Sure enough, there was Seb, lounging on a large couch, surrounded by bottles of fine wine.
Seb held a glass of wine, his lazy eyes immediately locking onto Susan's face.
Susan saw the surprise in Seb's eyes, then watched as his gaze traveled over her body.
Seeing Seb's reaction, Marc's mouth curled into a knowing smile.
