Chapter 568 Todd Takes Action
The doorbell of the villa rang a few times, and someone immediately came to open the door.
When the door opened, Laura was momentarily stunned. "Mr. Anderson?"
Todd glanced at Laura and said authoritatively, "I'm here to see Carol."
Although Laura knew that Todd and Carol were going through a divorce, Todd was still the head of the household, so she quickly stepped aside and ran inside, shouting, "Mr. Anderson is here."
Carol and Rylee, who were sitting on the couch in the living room, were also taken aback when they heard Laura's words.
Rylee was the first to get up and came out to greet him.
"Dad, why are you here?" Seeing Todd, although Rylee felt some resentment, she couldn't hide her respect for him.
Todd glanced at Rylee and said, "What, am I not allowed to come?"
"No, no," Rylee stammered.
Then, Rylee stepped forward to support Todd.
Seeing Rylee still as obedient as before, Todd sighed, reached out, and touched her hair. "I'm not that old yet; I don't need your help."
"Dad, how's your leg?" Rylee looked at Todd's leg.
Todd, still holding a cane, smiled and said, "It's much better."
At this moment, Carol, sitting on the couch, impatiently said, "Rylee, your dad is doing great and doesn't need your help. Save your energy!"
Hearing this, Rylee frowned.
Caught between her parents, she felt uncomfortable. Although Carol was the victim, Rylee couldn't forget the decades of love from Todd.
Hearing Carol's words, Todd walked over with his cane and said calmly, "Still as fiery as ever, I see."
Seeing Todd was like seeing an enemy for Carol, and she immediately screamed hysterically, "Did you think I'd be so easily forgiving? You sleep with another woman, humiliate me publicly, and now you waltz in here like a conquering hero? You're suing for divorce, abandoning your family, and you dare to show your face in front of Rylee? You, a man of your stature, should be ashamed of yourself!"
Hearing these accusations, Todd frowned. "Carol, I'm here to solve problems today, not to argue with you."
Carol sneered and said, "Solve problems? How do you plan to solve them? I don't have time to argue with you; you're not worth it!"
At this point, Todd glanced at Rylee and said, "Rylee, take Laura out for a bit. I need to talk to your mom."
Hearing this, Rylee was stunned and then looked at Carol's expression.
Carol crossed her arms and said, "Rylee is family, and Laura has been with us for so many years. What can't you say in front of them?"
Hearing this, Todd lowered his head and said, "I don't mind, but I'm worried about..."
At this point, Todd looked up and stared at Carol.
Carol, feeling a bit scared under his gaze, blurted out, "Worried about what? Me losing my temper?"
Halfway through her sentence, Carol saw the deep look in Todd's eyes and was momentarily stunned.
Then, Carol impatiently said to Rylee, "Take Laura out for a walk. He won't do anything to me. If something happens to me, it must be your dad's doing. Remember to avenge me!"
"Mom," Rylee frowned upon hearing this.
"Just go!" Carol waved her hand impatiently at Rylee.
Helplessly, Rylee had to take Laura out.
Once the living room was quiet again, Carol sneered. "Todd, aren't you suing for divorce? Since you've taken it to court, why are you here today? I already told your lawyer last time that I won't agree to a divorce settlement. Either wait for the court's decision or wait until I decide to divorce you!"
Carol's words were cold and harsh. Todd hesitated for a moment, then pointed at Carol and said, "Your temper is still the same as it was back then. Still determined to make everyone as miserable as you are."
"Since you understand, there's no need to come to me to solve any problems. You can't solve this problem!" Carol said.
Todd frowned, and Carol, seeing his difficulty, secretly sneered.
Todd then said, "Carol, our feelings actually broke down twenty years ago. Maintaining this marriage is painful for both of us. I understand that you stayed in this marriage because I was useful to you. But now that I've stepped down from my leadership position, I have no value to you anymore. I won't take any of the assets you've built over the years. What more do you want?"
"You've humiliated me, made me a laughingstock, and turned me into an abandoned woman. And you found a woman who is inferior to me in every way. How can I save face? And of all people, you chose Seb's mother-in-law, Susan's mother! Don't you know I've never been happy with Susan marrying into the Anderson family? You're openly opposing me! I've been strong all my life, and now you've made me lose all my dignity!" Carol vented all her anger.
Facing Carol's accusations, Todd didn't defend himself but nodded and said, "What you said is true. I did wrong by falling in love with Seb's mother-in-law, bringing a lot of negative impact to our family."
Carol was not satisfied with Todd's words. "Todd, are you saying it's okay for you to find another woman, but you just chose the wrong one?"
Facing Carol's question, Todd didn't deny it but said, "Carol, I'm a normal man too. I need my wife's care and attention. What have you given me all these years?"
"And what have you given me as a husband all these years?" Carol retorted.
Todd suddenly sneered. "You want to talk about warmth? You think you haven't gotten enough warmth elsewhere? How could I possibly compete with that? I may have turned a blind eye to your indiscretions, but that doesn't mean they didn't hurt. I have my pride, Carol."
Hearing these words, Carol's eyes widened.
At this moment, upstairs, another face was filled with confusion.
