Chapter 330 Unable to Explain
Seb scrunched up his face at those words. After a beat, he muttered, "Maybe Linda's got some wild dreams, but I ain't feelin' anything for her."
Was Seb trying to explain himself? If he knew Linda was all dreamy-eyed about him, why'd he still go to dinner with her at that fancy revolving restaurant?
Next thing, Susan stiffened up and said, "That's your business; you don't gotta explain it to me."
Hearing that, Seb's face went dark, and his voice got louder. "So, you don't care at all who I'm with now?"
His voice was so loud that even though Hayden was older, younger Spring started bawling right away!
Seeing Spring cry, Susan quickly scooped her up, stroked her head, and soothed, "Spring, it's okay. Don't be scared."
Seeing Spring's tear-streaked face, Seb instantly regretted his outburst. He'd totally lost it in front of the kids.
Once Spring calmed down, Susan coldly said to Seb, "We're done, so who you're with is your problem. Sorry, but Spring's tired. We're leaving!"
With that, Susan carried Spring in one arm and held Hayden's hand with the other as they left the room.
Frowning as he watched them go, Seb clenched his fists, kicking himself for what he'd just said.
A minute later, while Seb was still stewing in regret, a little figure suddenly dashed in.
"Daddy!" Hayden ran to Seb's bedside.
Seeing Hayden back, Seb glanced at the door and saw it was empty. Curious, he asked, "Hayden, why'd you come back? Where's your mom?"
"Mom's waiting downstairs. She told me to get the thermos." Hayden replied.
Hearing this, Seb handed the thermos to Hayden and said, "Be careful; don't drop it, and listen to your mom."
"Got it." Hayden nodded, then ran towards the door with the thermos.
Watching Hayden's back, Seb suddenly felt a hollow ache in his chest. They were his whole world, and their leaving felt like his heart was being ripped out. He'd never felt this way before; it was a real downer.
After stepping out the door, Hayden suddenly turned back and, with an innocent smile, said to Seb, "Daddy, don't worry. I'll make mommy happy again."
Hearing this, Seb smiled and waved at Hayden, signaling him to go quickly.
Hayden gave a cheerful smile and then turned and ran out.
After getting home, Susan swore to herself, 'I'm never making soup for him again.'
But on the way back, she bought some ribs, thinking, 'These ribs aren't for Seb; they're for Hayden and Spring.'
In the evening, Susan made rib stew, and the kids ate like they were starving. Isabella smiled and said, "Your cooking's getting better and better."
"I'll cook for you all the time from now on." Susan smiled.
Isabella, though, frowned a bit and glanced at Hayden and Spring, saying, "I have a feeling there won't be many chances for that in the future."
Hearing this, Susan looked at Isabella and asked, "Why? Whenever you want it, I can make it for you."
Isabella, holding her bowl, smiled and said, "I think you'll soon be taking the kids to live at Seb's place."
Hearing that, Susan rolled her eyes. "You're talking nonsense again."
"Nonsense? Don't think I didn't notice that you got up at the crack of dawn to make soup this morning. You're treating him differently this time," Isabella shot back.
"It's 'cause he got hurt saving Dorothy and Amanda. I gotta thank him somehow, right?" Susan quickly defended herself.
"Alright, stop explaining. It's pointless." Isabella just laughed, not buying it.
"Whatever you say." Seeing that Isabella didn't believe her, Susan didn't push it. She muttered this and kept feeding Spring the ribs.
That night, Susan tossed and turned, but she was so wiped from the past couple of days that she finally crashed after midnight.
When Susan opened her eyes, it was already bright outside.
She sat up quickly, hesitated for a moment, and then headed to the kitchen.
By noon, the soup was ready. Spring was asleep, so Susan asked Isabella to watch her and then took Hayden's hand and left the house.
When she got to the hospital, Susan hesitated. She could almost see Isabella's teasing smile before she left.
What was wrong with her? Why couldn't she stick to her guns this time? She'd said yesterday she wouldn't make soup for Seb again, but here she was. Susan felt a bit of self-loathing.
Just then, Susan saw Leon hurrying over from a distance.
"Ms. Wilson, why aren't you going up?" Leon asked, glancing at the thermos in Susan's hand.
Susan quickly handed the thermos to Leon and smiled. "Spring's still at home, and I need to get back quickly. Could you give this soup to him? Also, Hayden will stay here to keep his daddy company today."
Before Leon could say anything, Hayden tugged at Susan's clothes and said, "Mommy, can you come up with me to see daddy?"
Susan looked down at Hayden, stroked his head, and said, "Hayden, be good. Spring's still at home, and I need to go back to take care of her. You stay here and take care of your daddy today, okay?"
"Alright." Although Hayden was reluctant, he still nodded.
Leon then took Hayden by the hand and carried the thermos in the other, leaving Susan's sight.
On the way back, Susan felt much more at ease. This way, she didn't have to see Seb, but she still did something for him. After all, Seb got hurt because of her family.
On Monday, as soon as Susan walked into the office, she got a call from Linda's secretary asking her to go to Linda's office.
Facing Linda, Susan felt a bit awkward because Linda had been pretty ticked off at her at the hospital last time. Linda thought she was hiding her relationship with Seb on purpose.
Linda looked up at Susan, her face blank, and said, "Susan, you did a great job on the Capgemini Software Company budget proposal. So, on behalf of the company, I'm informing you that you're officially a full-time employee of Pioneer Accounting Firm starting today."
Hearing this, although Susan hadn't decided whether to stay at Pioneer Accounting Firm long-term, becoming a full-time employee was still a good thing. She smiled and said, "Thanks, Linda."
