Chapter 35
Saturday afternoon, the employees took in the stunning views of Moon Bay, guided by the resort's reception team.
All afternoon, Susan didn't see Seb. Even at dinner, he was a no-show. She couldn't help but wonder, "Does he not even eat?"
Noticing Susan's disappointment, Isabella leaned in and whispered with a chuckle, "What's this? Missing Seb already?"
"Get out of here, I'm just tired," Susan shot back, giving Isabella a playful shove.
Isabella quickly got serious. "Seriously, you've been wandering around all afternoon. You should rest now, don't overdo it."
"Okay." Susan nodded, got up, and headed towards the VIP area.
As she entered, she saw Seb's secretary, Ellie, walking towards her with a thick folder.
"Mrs. Anderson, did you enjoy your meal?" Ellie asked, smiling.
In private, Ellie always called her Mrs. Anderson, showing respect. In public, she treated Susan like everyone else, which showed why Seb trusted her so much. She was tactful.
"You haven't eaten yet, have you?" Susan asked, remembering she hadn't seen Ellie at dinner.
Ellie glanced at the folder. "Mr. Anderson asked me to scan this document urgently. I need to finish this before I can eat."
Susan frowned, thinking, "Is Seb still working?"
Seeing her puzzled look, Ellie explained, "After lunch, Mr. Anderson and Mr. Johnson went back to Maple Valley. There's an important case that needs his decision."
Susan suddenly understood why she hadn't seen Seb and Leon all afternoon and evening—they had already gone back to Maple Valley.
"I'll get back to work then." Ellie smiled and quickly walked away.
Watching Ellie leave, Susan felt a sense of loss.
Moon Bay is over two hours from Maple Valley, so Seb probably wouldn't be back tonight.
Although she wouldn't have to face the awkwardness with Seb, Susan felt a deep sense of loneliness.
Back in her room, after a shower, Susan turned off the lights and went to sleep, exhausted from the day.
In her drowsy state, she vaguely heard faint footsteps and the rustling of clothes.
Susan was in a deep sleep. Although she knew someone had come in, she couldn't open her eyes until a strong arm pulled her into a warm chest, fully waking her up.
Without turning around, she knew it was Seb. She could recognize his strong arm and unique scent immediately.
Susan glanced outside. It was pitch dark.
"Why did you come back?" Susan couldn't help but ask.
It was probably already midnight. Driving back at this hour was dangerous and exhausting, especially since there was no work waiting for him here, just a vacation.
‘Could it be that Seb missed me?’ The thought startled Susan.
‘Was I overestimating myself? Could a man as amazing as Seb like me?’ Susan's face couldn't help but flush.
"Oh, I thought the air here was nice, so I came to rest," Seb hesitated before answering.
Susan found his reason a bit far-fetched. 'Driving at night just for the air? Could it be because of me that he thought the air was nice here?' She couldn't help but wonder if she was overthinking it.
The night was quiet, and neither of them spoke again. Susan started to feel drowsy, only to feel something furry rubbing against the back of her neck.
She moved slightly, thinking, 'Even though I don't have obvious pregnancy symptoms yet, I can't handle Seb's nightly demands.'
Susan squirmed and muttered, "No more."
"No more what?" Seb's lips curled into a smile.
"I have a baby in my belly. I can't handle your nightly demands," Susan stammered, her face burning.
Seb cleared his throat. "I had an eight-hour negotiation with a company executive this afternoon. After dinner, I drove straight to Moon Bay. I'm exhausted. Even if you had any demands now, I couldn't fulfill them."
Realizing she had been tricked, Susan turned around in embarrassment and punched Seb's chest. "You're awful, teasing me like that!"
Seb laughed heartily, letting her hit his chest a few times before wrapping his arms tightly around her.
With her face pressed against Seb's chest, Susan suddenly felt an inexplicable happiness. His laughter was so hearty and charming. She never knew he could laugh so freely.
Maybe he was really tired. Soon, Susan heard his even breathing.
In the moonlight, Susan saw Seb had fallen asleep. She gazed at his handsome, rugged face without restraint, never imagining she'd marry someone like him. Uncertain of their future, she cherished the warmth of his embrace in that moment.
Susan didn't know how long she stared at Seb's handsome face before falling asleep. She only knew that she woke up late again the next morning, and Seb was gone.
The sun was shining brightly outside. Susan sat up and stretched, feeling that she had slept very well. In her dreams, she felt strong arms holding her, giving her a great sense of security.
Just as she got up and opened the curtains, the room's phone rang.
Susan walked to the bedside, picked up the phone, and heard Ellie's voice. "Mrs. Anderson, are you up? Breakfast is ready. Would you like the waiter to bring it to your room?"
Susan marveled at Ellie's diligence. Ellie knew she was awake as soon as she opened the curtains.
"Thank you, please have it sent over."
"Okay." Ellie was about to hang up.
Susan quickly asked, "Where did he go?"
Ellie paused for a moment, then immediately understood who "he" was. Ellie smiled and replied, "Mr. Anderson has a ceremony to attend at nine this morning, so he and Mr. Johnson left for Maple Valley at six-thirty."
