Chapter 397 Hiting the Heart

Seb took a deep breath and said, "You know my folks have always been kinda distant. Lately, my mom's been under the weather, and my dad's having a rough time at work. They keep butting heads, and I worry about 'em, so I go back to check on them a lot."

Susan felt something was off but couldn't quite put her finger on it.

"Seb, be real with me. Is it that your mom still doesn't like us being together?" Susan asked, a bit hesitant.

"Come on, we've got two kids now," Seb said, trying to sound chill.

Susan gave a bitter smile. "As far as I know, your parents haven't even met Spring, right? And Hayden, they barely see him once every six months."

"Susan." Seb squeezed her hand, seeing her downcast look.

Susan looked up and forced a smile. "Honestly, it doesn't matter. I'm with you, not your parents. Don't worry, I don't care that much."

"Actually, it's not what you think. It's complicated, but I'll explain everything later," Seb said, looking at her with a hint of helplessness.

Susan didn't catch that and smiled. "Alright, let's drop it. Dinner's ready."

Finally, they could have a peaceful dinner, and Susan didn't want to spoil the mood, so she pulled Seb up.

"Okay." Seb nodded.

Then he clapped his hands and shouted, "Hayden, Spring, chow time!"

"Dinner time!" Hayden and Spring yelled, rushing to the dining room.

The next day, Susan and Isabella took the manager from a renovation company to check out the office space she had rented.

The office was in the bustling area of Maple Valley. It wasn't huge, but it had a manager's office, an employee office, a restroom, and a small break room. The price was right, perfect for her small startup with just five or six employees.

After checking out the space, Susan and Isabella walked Jesse Scott from the renovation company out.

"Mr. Scott, I'm counting on you. Can't wait to open for business," Susan said with a smile.

"We'll work around the clock to get it done in two weeks," Jesse said before heading off.

Susan looked up and saw a familiar figure in the store being renovated across from them.

Amelia had a curvy figure, heavy makeup, and wore flashy clothes and jewelry, looking all high-end. But no matter how fancy her outfit was, she couldn't hide her sleazy vibe.

Amelia, with a snobby attitude, seemed to be nitpicking the workers.

Isabella couldn't help but say, "No way, is she opening a store here too? Susan, she's like a bad penny!"

Susan curled her lips and said indifferently, "She does her thing, we do ours. She better behave, or we won't be easy to push around."

Susan was fuming inside. She and Amelia kept bumping into each other, and now their businesses were gonna be right across from each other.

"Let's bounce," Susan said, pulling Isabella along.

But just then, Amelia strutted out of her store and spotted them. She froze for a sec, then saw the keys in Susan's hand and burst out laughing. "I pick this spot for my store, and I still run into this bitch?"

Isabella, hearing Amelia's trash talk, stepped up to confront her.

"Watch your mouth, or I won't be so nice!" Isabella snapped, pointing at Amelia.

Suddenly, two tall dudes in black suits, clearly bodyguards, appeared behind Amelia.

Amelia smirked. "Isabella, right? I wasn't even talking about you. Don't start something you can't finish, or you'll regret it!"

Seeing the two intimidating bodyguards, Isabella's legs wobbled a bit.

Susan pulled Isabella back and stepped forward. "Amelia, we each do our own thing. You better watch your mouth, or I won't be scared of your bodyguards. Maple Valley's a law-abiding place; no one's above the law!"

Amelia, seeing them back down a bit, laughed smugly. "Susan, I know you've got some big shot backing you now, so I won't mess with you. But why hasn't he married you yet? You've had two kids for him, right? Still living in his house without a ring? You call me shameless, but you're the real shameless one!"

Those words hit Susan hard, and her face went pale, leaving her speechless.

Isabella, seeing this, stepped forward angrily. "Amelia, you really don't know when to shut up. Don't think just 'cause you have two bodyguards, I won't do anything to you."

Amelia sneered. "These are my bodyguards. If you start something, they can defend me. Even if you sue, you won't win!"

Isabella's face turned red with anger.

She didn't care about the consequences and stepped forward, raising her hand to slap Amelia, just to let off some steam.

Susan grabbed Isabella's hand and pulled her back.

"Susan," Isabella frowned.

Susan looked coldly at Amelia. "Amelia, don't get too cocky, or you'll end up falling hard."

Amelia laughed. "Susan, I'm a rich heiress now. You should worry about yourself. To put it bluntly, you and Seb are just having an affair, right?"

"What did you say?" The word "affair" cut deep, and Susan clenched her fists.

"I said you and Seb are having an affair! Got it?" Amelia laughed wildly and then strutted off with her bodyguards.

Watching Amelia leave, Susan was boiling with rage.

Actually, Amelia wasn't wrong. What was her relationship with Seb now?

"Affair" was a harsh way to put it, but it was the truth.
