Chapter 926 Anger

"He..." Isabella stammered, but Susan cut her off before she could finish.

Isabella felt too embarrassed to tell Susan about what went down between her and Leon in Avaloria, so Susan was left in the dark.

"What about him?" Susan pressed.

Isabella dodged the question. "Nothing, let's just drop it, okay?"

Seeing Isabella's reluctance, Susan backed off. "Alright, I won't push. Just think it over, but don't let someone important slip away!"

After hanging up, Isabella lay on her bed, lost in thought.

Susan hadn't asked Leon to look after her, so Leon must've done it on his own.

Isabella wondered, 'Why is Leon so concerned about me? Is it just guilt, or does he have feelings for me too?'

She quickly grabbed a mirror to check herself out. Sure, she still had some charm, but at thirty, she couldn't compete with girls in their early twenties.

All day, Isabella was in a daze, lost in her thoughts, but she couldn't figure anything out.

A few days passed in a blur. Isabella lived in a fog, but the caregiver took good care of her. Leon hadn't visited again, but he made sure the caregiver brought her good food, drinks, and daily necessities.

Finally, Isabella couldn't take it anymore and called Leon.

When the phone rang, Isabella could hear her own heartbeat.

"Hello?" A deep male voice answered quickly.

Even though she was prepared, Isabella still felt nervous hearing Leon's voice.

She didn't know what was wrong with her. Why did she seem so afraid of him? She used to argue with him easily. Isabella scolded herself internally for being so cowardly.

"Isabella, is that you?" Leon asked, frowning when he didn't hear a response for a while.

The next moment, Isabella quickly said, "It's me."

"What's up?" Leon's voice became more serious out of worry.

"I..." Isabella hesitated for a moment, then quickly said, "I need to talk to you. Can you come to my place?"

Leon hesitated for a moment before replying, "I'll come after work."

"Okay." Isabella quickly hung up.

Even after hanging up, Isabella's heart was still pounding.

She asked herself in her head, 'What is wrong with me? What am I afraid of? It's just Leon, what's the big deal?'

In the afternoon, Isabella opened her wardrobe to pick out clothes.

After a long time, she finally chose a pair of beige pants, a light blue camisole, and a pearl-colored knitted cardigan.

Leon got off work at 5:30 PM, dropped Seb off at home, and would probably arrive at her place around 6:30 PM.

So, at 6:25 PM, Isabella was already dressed and sitting upright on her bed.

Sure enough, just after 6:30 PM, there was a knock on the door.

Sitting on the bed, Isabella's heart skipped a beat when she heard the knock.

The caregiver, who was cooking, ran to open the door.

"Mr. Johnson, you're here? You brought so many groceries and fruits? Let me put them in the fridge. Ms. Brown's been waiting for you all day!" The caregiver's voice carried into the bedroom, making Isabella blush. 'How can she tell Leon everything,' she thought.

She heard steady footsteps approaching.

Leon walked into the small bedroom.

Seeing Isabella sitting on the bed, Leon's eyes lit up.

The light blue camisole and pearl-colored cardigan made Isabella's complexion glow. Her golden hair draped over her chest, adding a touch of allure. Her beautiful big eyes blinked at him, and Leon felt his heart melt.

"You're here?" Isabella greeted Leon, her head slightly lowered, feeling her blood rush.

"Yeah." Leon nodded, feeling a bit awkward, and touched his tie.

The next moment, Isabella and Leon spoke at the same time.

Hearing each other, they looked up, and their eyes met.

For a moment, both of their breaths quickened, and their faces turned a bit red.

Feeling her face heat up, Isabella quickly got to the point. "Did you hire the caregiver for me?"

"Yes." Leon nodded honestly.

"And you paid for all the food, drinks, and supplies?" Isabella asked again.

"Yes." Leon nodded again.

Hearing this, Isabella said, "Did you keep track of the expenses?"

"Keep track?" Leon frowned, staring at Isabella in confusion.

Isabella replied, "Didn't you keep a record of the money you spent on hiring and buying things? I need to pay you back!"

Hearing this, Leon's face darkened. "I don't keep track of expenses."

Upon hearing this, Isabella took out a small notebook from beside her pillow and started reading from it, "I asked the caregiver, she said her salary is $30 a day, and she's been taking care of me for ten days, so that's $300. Plus, the food, drinks, and supplements you bought, I roughly estimated it to be over $400. And my medical bills, which are the big expense, I called the hospital, and they said I spent over $1,000."

At this point, Leon couldn't listen anymore. With a look of anger, he coldly interrupted Isabella, "If you're here to settle accounts, I'm sorry, I'm very busy and don't have time to listen to this!"

With that, Leon turned to leave.

"Wait, I'm not asking you to settle accounts!" Seeing him about to leave, Isabella quickly stopped him.

Hearing Isabella's words, Leon lowered his head, then turned to look at her. "Then why did you call me here?"

"I..." Isabella was about to answer.

Just then, the caregiver poked her head into the bedroom and said, "Ms. Brown, we're out of soy sauce. I'll go buy a bottle!"

"Okay." Isabella nodded.

The next moment, the caregiver smiled ingratiatingly at Leon. "Mr. Johnson, since you're here, why don't you stay for dinner? I'll make a few more dishes."
