Chapter 325 Heartache
When Susan heard that, she just rolled her eyes.
She knew Dorothy's drama all too well, so she wasn't about to get into it with her in front of Catherine. She shot back, "Whether you marry Henry or ditch him, that's your own stuff, not mine. Stop overthinking it!"
With that, Susan spun around and headed for the door.
Even though she kept telling herself not to get mad 'cause Dorothy was clearly losing it, she couldn't help but feel a knot in her chest.
"I know you can't stand seeing me happy. I'll live better than you just to piss you off!" Dorothy cackled behind her.
"How can you talk to your sister like that?" Catherine snapped at Dorothy.
"Is she really my sister? What kind of sister does that? She actually convinced Henry not to divorce me first and then leave. Mom, I don't want a sister like Susan. I don't want her. The person Henry loves is my own sister. How can I stand this?" Dorothy's shrill cries echoed behind.
Susan felt her blood boiling. She shut her eyes, tears threatening to spill.
Dorothy's hatred for her ran deep. Dorothy thought Susan wanted her to suffer. It'd be better if they never saw each other again.
After leaving the ward, Susan stood in the hallway, staring at the white ceiling, trying hard to hold back her tears.
Soon, Henry finished the discharge papers and took Dorothy and Amanda away.
Just then, a hand landed on Susan's shoulder.
Susan turned around and saw it was Catherine. She forced a smile, but it looked more like a grimace.
"Dorothy's still young and just went through a lot. Don't take it to heart," Catherine said, looking just as helpless.
"I know." Susan lowered her head, avoiding Catherine's eyes.
Then Catherine said, "I'm fine. Can you take me home?"
"Okay." Susan nodded and helped Catherine walk away.
Just then, James popped up behind them, grinning. "Catherine, see how good my idea was? Henry dropped the lawsuit. He's not divorcing Dorothy and gonna take both Dorothy and Amanda back home!"
Catherine looked at James with his smug face, too tired to argue.
Susan had had enough. She glared at him and said, "I knew it was your idea. Dorothy's always been a scaredy-cat; she'd never think of jumping into the river!"
"I did it for her own good. She didn't want to divorce Henry, so as her dad, shouldn't I give her some advice?" James said, all self-righteous.
"Did you ever think about what would happen if something really went wrong? Amanda's just a kid; what if she got scared? If something happened to Dorothy, how would my mom go on living?" Susan fired back.
"Nothing happened, did it?" James muttered.
Susan knew arguing with James was pointless, so she didn't even bother.
Then Catherine spoke up, "James, you need to move out of my house today, or I'll throw your stuff out!"
James was floored. "Catherine, what the heck? I helped you sort out Dorothy's mess, and this is the thanks I get?"
"Who asked you to stick your nose in Dorothy's business? I'm telling you, we're done. If you keep showing up at my place, I'll call the cops!" Catherine snapped, dragging Susan away.
After Susan got Catherine home, Catherine really did toss all of James's stuff out and threatened to call the police if he didn't scram.
James threw a fit at first, but then Catherine hit him where it hurt, spilling the beans about Sophia ditching him for some rich guy. With the neighbors all watching, James had no choice but to leave with his bags.
Watching James's figure disappear from the window, Catherine frowned. "Where do you think he'll go? Will he end up on the streets?"
Susan felt a twinge of sadness but steeled herself. "Mom, we survived when we had nothing. Plus, he's not that old; he has all his limbs and knows business. He'll figure it out."
"We were a couple; I don't want to see him suffer too much," Catherine sighed.
Susan kept quiet, her mind drifting to Seb's injury.
Earlier at the hospital, a nurse had told her the doctor was stitching Seb up. The wound was deep and long, making Susan's skin crawl just thinking about it.
Seeing Susan's worried face, Catherine said, "I know you're worried about Seb. Go check on him. We owe him big time. If it weren't for him, who knows what would've happened to Dorothy and Amanda. You have two kids with him. Even if you can't be together, you need to keep things civil. With those two kids, you'll always be connected."
Susan couldn't wait any longer. "Mom, I'll head to the hospital then. Call me if anything comes up, okay?"
"Okay," Catherine nodded.
Susan quickly left the house.
She rushed to the emergency surgery room and, after asking a nurse, found out Seb had just finished surgery and was moved to a ward.
After getting the room number, Susan hurried to the ward.
Finally, she found the room, only to see Leon standing outside, looking worried.
"Ms. Wilson?" Leon's face lit up when he saw Susan.
"How did the surgery go?" Susan asked, stepping closer.
Seb's leg wound was so bad; it must've taken a ton of stitches.
"He got thirty-eight stitches. The doc said the wound's deep and needs anti-inflammatory treatment and a month of bed rest," Leon replied.
Hearing this, Susan felt her legs go weak.
Thirty-eight stitches. Seb must be in so much pain. Her eyes welled up.
Seeing Susan hesitate, Leon quickly said, "Ms. Wilson, Mr. Anderson's throwing a fit. Shouldn't you go in and check on him?"
