Chapter 957 Heart-Wrenching Pain
The next morning, Leon and Isabella both took the day off. After breakfast, they went straight to the hospital to visit the obstetrics and gynecology department.
After a bunch of tests, the doctor looked at them and said, "Congrats, Ms. Brown is six weeks pregnant."
Isabella beamed, still soaking in the joy.
But Leon frowned and suddenly blurted out, "Doc, we don't want this kid. What should we do?"
Isabella's eyes went wide as she stared at Leon.
The doctor frowned too and said, "Sir, this is your first kid. If your wife go for an abortion, it might make future pregnancies tough. Think this through."
"No need to think. Just go ahead with a safe abortion," Leon said firmly.
"Given your wife's situation, a medical abortion would be more appropriate..." The doctor started to say.
Isabella couldn't hold back and shouted at Leon, "Leon, how can you be so heartless? This kid is yours. How can you even think of killing it?"
Seeing Isabella so upset, Leon said, "Isabella, we're not ready for a kid right now."
"Why not? Explain it to me!" Isabella demanded, not buying his excuse.
The doctor cut in, "There are other patients waiting. If you haven't decided, go home and think it over, okay?"
Isabella shot up from her seat, glared at Leon, and stormed out of the room.
Leon chased after her, grabbing her arm. "Isabella, please, let me explain," he pleaded, looking at her tear-streaked face.
Isabella was tough and rarely cried. Seeing her like this tore Leon up inside.
Isabella sneered, "What's there to explain? You don't want our kid, and you don't want me either."
"This kid came at the wrong time," Leon said, pained.
Isabella looked him in the eye, "Then when is the right time? We're both over thirty, past the age for marriage and kids. I know you don't want to get married, but now that this kid is here, you want to kill it because of your selfishness?"
Leon dodged the question. "We always used protection. How did you get pregnant?"
Seeing him look puzzled, Isabella bitterly smiled. "What are you saying? That I got pregnant on purpose?"
"That's not what I meant," Leon tried to explain.
But Isabella wasn't having it. "Leon, remember that time we ran out of condoms, and it was my safe period, so we didn't use any? Well, I got pregnant from that one time."
"It's all my fault. I shouldn't have..." Leon started but didn't finish.
To Isabella, his words were like daggers.
"Shouldn't have what? Moved in with me, slept with me, met me?" Isabella asked, her voice filled with sadness.
"That's not what I meant!" Leon frowned.
Isabella sneered and turned away. "Doesn't matter what you meant. Since you don't want this kid, don't worry. I won't cling to you or make you take responsibility. But let me be clear, I'm keeping this kid because it'll be my only family. So, we're done!"
With that, Isabella walked off.
Leon rushed forward, grabbing her wrist. "Isabella, calm down and listen to me, okay?"
"There's nothing to explain. Move your stuff out of my place ASAP!" Isabella shook off his hand and walked away.
Leon ran his hand through his hair, pounding his chest in frustration, his eyes filled with pain as he watched her leave.
Isabella walked away, tears blurring her vision, making the road ahead unclear.
Her joy had turned to sorrow. She never expected Leon to be so adamant about aborting their kid, without any room for discussion.
Maybe he was just momentarily interested in her and never intended to be with her long-term. She had foolishly defended him, thinking he just didn't want to get married but loved her. She believed that once he knew she was pregnant, he would propose, and they could be a happy family.
It turned out it was all her wishful thinking. Isabella felt as if her heart had been slashed open, bleeding continuously.
Isabella didn't even know how she got home. That night, Leon didn't come back.
She still had a glimmer of hope, thinking maybe Leon was just impulsive and might change his mind after calming down. After all, who would be heartless enough to kill their own kid?
But after three days of Leon not returning, Isabella lost hope in him.
During these days, Isabella made a decision. She would be a single mother and raise her kid on her own because it would be her only family in the future.
That evening, as Isabella was leaving work, she saw Leon waiting for her on the steps.
Seeing him, Isabella's heart tightened.
But she pretended not to see him and turned to leave.
Leon took a big step forward and blocked her way.
"Don't block my way!" Isabella said, raising her chin.
"Isabella, can we sit down and talk?" Leon frowned deeply.
"Is there any need to talk?" Isabella asked, staring at him.
"I hope you can calm down. After all, this kid is ours, and we both have a responsibility to it," Leon said seriously.
Seeing his serious expression, Isabella thought, 'Maybe he has changed his mind. He was right; the kid is ours, and she also hoped that both parents would take responsibility for the kid.'
Then, Isabella and Leon went to a nearby café.
After sitting down, Isabella said coldly, "Make it quick. I'm in a hurry to go home and read parenting books."
