Chapter 1254 Going Home
"Yeah, we should head back. No need to give Daryl's mother another reason to pick on you," Beau said.
Cecilia felt a pang in her heart, her eyes misting up.
Beau's wife nudged him, signaling him to stop talking.
"Mom, I'm sorry for putting you and my brother and sister-in-law through this," Cecilia said, feeling guilty.
"Silly girl, we're fine. As long as you're happy, that's all that matters. Just remember to take good care of Daryl and respect his family. Being patient and accommodating is the key to a harmonious family," Rainey advised her daughter.
Cecilia nodded tearfully.
Rainey insisted on leaving, and despite Daryl and Cecilia's efforts to persuade her otherwise, they had no choice but to arrange a car to take Cecilia's family home.
As Cecilia watched the car drive away, tears streamed down her face.
Standing beside her, Daryl put his arm around her shoulders and comforted her, "Don't be sad. Mrs. Thorne is a wise woman. I respect her a lot."
Hearing this, Cecilia cried even harder. "My mom has always been like this, sacrificing herself and being patient with others. Today, your mom said such hurtful things, and my mom just endured it and even told me to respect your mom. I saw her secretly wiping away tears. I feel so guilty. Not only can I not make her proud, but I also make her suffer."
Seeing Cecilia cry, Daryl frowned and kept apologizing. "I'm sorry. I apologize on behalf of my family. It's all our fault."
"Why are you apologizing? It's not your fault. I'm just venting," Cecilia said, wiping her tears with the back of her hand.
Daryl hesitated for a moment and then said, "How about this? I'll go with you to visit your family this weekend."
Cecilia looked at Daryl with tearful eyes, surprised. "My mom just visited. Why should we go back? Besides, we have so many things to prepare for the weekend."
Daryl smiled. "I should have personally picked up Mrs. Thorne and Beau to show our respect. It's not too late to make amends. Let's prepare some gifts for them over the next few days, and we'll leave early Saturday morning. If Mrs. Thorne sees how well I treat you, she'll feel more at ease. As for the wedding preparations, we can leave that to Douglas. I trust him."
Cecilia smiled and nodded.
Early Saturday morning, Cecilia and Daryl set off.
Their car was packed with gifts, filling both the trunk and the back seat.
Cecilia had only prepared clothes, shoes, and some food for her mother and brother's family. But Daryl had gone all out, filling the car with everything from cigarettes and alcohol to various supplements, watches, wallets, and household items, practically turning it into a mini department store.
When they arrived at the Thorne family home, Daryl shed his usual aloof demeanor and chatted warmly with Rainey and Beau.
Beau and his wife prepared a home-cooked meal for Daryl and even brought out two bottles of beer, refusing to drink the expensive wine Daryl had brought. Daryl had no choice but to drink the beer with Beau, and after one bottle each, he was out cold at Cecilia's house.
Cecilia sat by the window, smiling as she watched Daryl sleep.
Daryl's behavior today had surprised her. She never expected him to drink a whole bottle of beer with Beau, especially since he rarely drank. In the end, he couldn't handle it and passed out at the table.
Listening to Daryl's gentle snores, Cecilia felt a deep sense of warmth and happiness. She reached out to touch his handsome face, her heart filled with love.
Rainey and Beau were very pleased with Daryl, though they had some reservations about Azalea. They advised Cecilia that nothing in life was perfect and that finding a man like Daryl was a blessing. They urged her to appreciate her good fortune.
Rainey, holding Cecilia's hand, said she felt at ease knowing Cecilia was marrying Daryl.
Seeing her mother's kind eyes, Cecilia felt a weight lift from her heart. Her mother wasn't in the best health, and Cecilia always worried about her. It seemed Daryl's visit had been necessary.
At ten o'clock that night, Daryl finally woke up.
Opening his sleepy eyes, he saw Cecilia sitting by the bed, smiling at him in the soft light.
"You're awake? Have some honey water. It'll help with the hangover," Cecilia said, handing him a steaming cup.
"Thanks," Daryl said, smiling as he sat up and took the cup, sipping the honey water.
Looking around the simple yet cozy room, Daryl asked, "Whose room is this?"
"My brother's," Cecilia replied.
"I think I got drunk earlier," Daryl said, rubbing his still-dizzy head.
Cecilia laughed. "You sure did. You drank a whole bottle of beer and passed out at our dining table!"
"That beer is something else. I've learned my lesson," Daryl said sheepishly.
Cecilia smiled and said, "No more drinking like that in the future."
Daryl sighed. "Beau insisted. How could I refuse?"
"You seemed to get along well with my brother," Cecilia observed, having seen them chatting and drinking together.
Daryl nodded. "Your brother is straightforward and honest. He's someone who can get things done."
"Our family didn't have much, and he didn't get to study much. He dropped out to support my education. I owe him a lot," Cecilia said, feeling emotional.
"Just help him out when you can. But your brother isn't the type to easily accept help," Daryl said.
"How do you know my brother so well? He refused to take the expensive gifts you brought. I had to give them to my sister-in-law. He's worried I'll be looked down upon. He's always been like that, wanting to rely on himself. When he bought this house, he insisted on putting it in my mother's name, saying it would be partly mine too," Cecilia explained.
"That's why I respect your brother," Daryl said.
Cecilia smiled. "Not many people earn your respect."
"Your brother does," Daryl said with a smile.
"By the way, my brother and sister-in-law are sleeping in the living room because of us," Cecilia said, frowning.
