Chapter 270 The Wedding
Susan gently laid the sleeping Spring on the bed and tucked her in.
As she turned around, she saw George awkwardly standing there.
He had been silently by her side for over half an hour, looking pitiful, which moved Susan a bit.
"Susan, I'm really sorry. Even if you decide not to marry me, I won't complain. I respect your decision," George said earnestly.
Susan hesitated, then asked, "What do you mean? Are you backing out of the marriage?"
"No! I'm just worried you don't want to marry me anymore," George replied anxiously.
Susan sighed, "I'll ask you straight up. Is there anything else you're hiding from me? If there is, tell me now, and I'll forgive you. We'll get married in three days as planned. But if I find out later, don't blame me for being ruthless."
Susan wasn't sure if George had more secrets, so she wanted everything out in the open.
Believing that George was simply in a state of confusion or desperation, Susan held on to her trust in his character. Therefore, she decided to give him a chance. Having experienced this far together, she was unwilling to let the marriage slip away due to a transient lapse. Additionally, George had done a lot for her and Spring. She felt she owed him.
She hoped George would get back on track, as his actions would be criticized anywhere.
George lowered his head, contemplating.
"Is there something else?" Susan asked nervously, seeing his expression.
George looked up seriously. "There is one more thing."
"What is it?" Susan's heart raced.
George said, "I bought a human-shaped pillow. I hide it in the closet and hug it at night, pretending it's you. Does that count as hiding something?"
Susan's eyes widened, then she saw George's serious face and couldn't help but laugh.
Seeing her laugh, George grinned too.
"You're so annoying! Stop it! Who told you to say that?" Susan playfully hit his shoulder.
George stepped forward, holding her shoulders. "You finally laughed. I was sweating bullets, thinking if you didn't crack up today, it meant you were still mad at me."
Susan looked up at him. "I am mad. I didn't expect you to do that, and it made me doubt your character."
She decided to be honest and remind George to prevent future mistakes.
George's face turned serious. He raised his left hand and said, "Susan, I swear I'll never hide anything from you again or deceive you. If I break this oath, may I get hit by a car..."
Susan quickly pulled his hand down. "Who put you up to taking such a solemn oath?"
Seeing her back to her usual self, George smiled. "I knew you couldn't bear to see me get hit by..."
Before he could finish, Susan hit him again. "You still dare to say that?"
"Okay, I won't say it anymore." George hugged her.
Looking at George's smiling face, Susan still felt uneasy. But life wasn't perfect. This was the path she chose, and she had to walk it, no matter how tough it got.
George then joked, "Want to check out the human-shaped pillow in my closet?"
Susan shook her head and pushed him. "Let that pillow keep you company for two more nights. It won't be needed after that!"
George held her hand tightly, eyes full of longing. "I just want to hold you tonight. What should I do?"
Susan hesitated, then smiled. "George, I'm really tired today. Give me a couple of days. Let's wait until our wedding night, okay?"
For some reason, she felt some reservations about George. Despite being in their thirties, she wasn't keen on taking that big step of intimacy before their wedding.
George felt a bit disappointed but smiled. "Okay, I'll listen to you. I've waited this long, what's a couple more days?"
Susan smiled in response.
After George left, Susan felt exhausted. She leaned against the headboard, looking at the sleeping Spring. She thought, 'Spring, if it weren't for you, I might still be a bit willful. But now that I have you and Hayden, I can't afford to be reckless anymore. I must be responsible and make wise choices.'
Two days flew by, and soon it was the morning of Susan and George's wedding.
George had arranged the ceremony at a famous five-star hotel in Maple Valley.
Though the wedding was rushed, the venue was grand, and many guests attended, including prominent figures from Maple Valley. George was a well-known lawyer and mingled with high-end people.
In her wedding dress, Susan sat in the dressing room while the makeup artist did her hair and accessories.
Spring was in Serenity's arms, excited by all the people and playing with boutonnieres.
Catherine and Dorothy arrived early. Catherine sat in front of Susan, watching the makeup artist and offering suggestions to make Susan look as beautiful as possible.
Dorothy, however, sat far away, either playing with her phone or reading a magazine, as if it wasn't her sister getting married but a stranger.
