Chapter 1291 Mental Torment
For the past two days, Cecilia had been having a blast.
After washing Daryl's clothes, she had over an hour to read, listen to music, or practice yoga before heading to the kitchen to oversee lunch preparations.
After lunch, she watched the servants clean and put away the fancy tableware. Then, she'd go upstairs to read for a bit, take a delightful nap, and later do things she enjoyed. One afternoon, she even met up with Marcella for tea and a bit of shopping.
Cecilia's days had been particularly carefree, and Azalea hadn't said a word, even being quite pleasant when they were alone together.
Cecilia couldn't help but wonder what Daryl had done to bring about such a significant change in Azalea.
That evening, Cecilia brought a plate of freshly washed and cut apple slices to Daryl.
Daryl, who was sitting on the bed reviewing some documents, looked up at the fruit and met Cecilia's beaming smile.
Seeing her radiant smile, Daryl took a piece of apple and, while chewing, said, "I've noticed you've been in a great mood these past couple of days!"
Cecilia, resting her chin on her hand, smiled and said, "Of course! Let me tell you, Mom has been treating me very well these days, not giving me any attitude at all!"
Hearing this, Daryl felt quite pleased. "Mom finally came around. That's a surprise."
"I'm puzzled too. Mom suddenly had a change of heart. Plus, I now have plenty of free time to indulge in activities I love, and even go out with friends."
"Go out with friends? Male or female?" Daryl immediately frowned at this.
"Female, you jealous man!" Cecilia pushed Daryl's face and rolled her eyes at him.
"That's more like it." Satisfied with the answer, Daryl nodded.
Daryl suddenly grabbed Cecilia's wrist and pulled her into his arms!
Cecilia, holding the fruit plate, quickly leaned into him, afraid the fruit would spill onto the bed. She complained, "Can you be a bit gentler?"
Daryl laughed and took the fruit plate from her, placing it on the bedside table.
Cecilia looked up and saw a mischievous glint in his eyes, making her nervous. "What are you doing?"
"Just chatting with you," Daryl teased.
"About what?" Cecilia asked, her eyes fixed on him.
Daryl glanced at the ceiling and said, "Mom hasn't been making you do this and that these days, so you must be quite relaxed?"
Hearing this, Cecilia let her guard down and smiled. "You could say that."
"So, you're not tired?" Daryl continued.
"Not really, no," Cecilia laughed.
The next moment, Daryl held her hand, looked down at her face, and said, "You've been complaining about being tired lately, so I've been accommodating you. But now that you've had a break, isn't it time you fulfilled your wifely duties?"
Cecilia was shocked. So, this was what he had been leading up to!
"Daryl, I fell for your trick again. You're such a sly fox!" Cecilia protested.
"I'm just stating the facts," Daryl said with a grin, kissing her neck.
Cecilia shrank back, giggling. "Stop, it tickles."
But it was too late; Daryl made her laugh even more.
The next morning, Azalea suddenly said to Cecilia, "Your aunt's grandson is having his one-month celebration today. Come with me to give a gift and attend the party."
Cecilia nodded. "Sure."
Although she didn't know who this aunt was, she knew it was a relative of the Fields family, and as the eldest daughter-in-law, it was her duty to accompany her mother-in-law.
Cecilia changed into a light blue suit, styled her hair into a ponytail, and put on designer shoes and a handbag before heading out with Azalea.
On the way, Azalea and Cecilia had a pleasant conversation.
Cecilia was eager to please, hoping that this cordial relationship with Azalea could continue. Although they weren't very close, it was more than she had hoped for.
The Fields family's relatives were indeed wealthy. This aunt's family ran a medium-sized business, and their villa was large. The place was decorated festively, even more so than during the New Year, to celebrate the birth of a grandson.
As Cecilia helped Azalea inside, they saw many guests. Daryl's father's side of the Fields family was the most successful, so Azalea was warmly greeted by the host and other guests.
"Mrs. Azalea Fields, you're finally here! We were waiting for you to see my little grandson. You're so blessed; let my grandson share in your good fortune!" The aunt, dressed in a deep red dress, exuded both shrewdness and elegance.
"You're the truly blessed one, becoming a grandmother at such a young age. I'm envious," Azalea replied with a bright smile.
The aunt then glanced at Cecilia. "You have a daughter-in-law now. Grandchildren are just around the corner. Look at your beautiful daughter-in-law and Daryl, such a perfect couple. Their children will surely be gorgeous. Just be patient; good news is on the way!"
Hearing this exchange, Cecilia felt awkward standing next to Azalea.
"I think I shouldn't get my hopes up just yet. You're the lucky one," Azalea said, her face darkening as she glanced at Cecilia.
Though not sharp, Azalea's look was filled with disappointment.
It made Cecilia's heart sink, and she felt extremely uncomfortable, lowering her head, unsure of what to say or do.
The aunt, sharp as ever, noticed the awkward moment.
She quickly took Azalea's hand. "Mrs. Azalea Fields, let's go upstairs to see my grandson!"
"Okay," Azalea responded quickly.
Cecilia hurriedly helped Azalea upstairs.
They entered a large, festively decorated bedroom. In the center was an exquisite crib, and next to it stood a slightly plump young woman in a pink lace dress.
