Chapter 791 Dinner
'What does Cecilia mean by that? Being a mistress to the man she loves?' Susan wondered.
Just as she was trying to figure it out, Cecilia spilled the beans.
"I'm living with Daryl now. Signed a one-year deal with him. I'll be his mistress for a year, and he'll pay me $104,000!" Cecilia's face was a whirlwind of emotions.
Susan frowned at this.
Another messy love story. It reminded her of her past with Seb. Loving someone too much could be a real pain. They were so into each other that neither could let go.
Cecilia let out a bitter laugh. "You know what? Daryl's not some broke student. His family's loaded, with a billion-dollar company. But he played the poor student card with me!"
Susan tried to reason, "Maybe there's a mix-up. He might not have meant to trick you."
Seb knew Daryl's dad. Daryl had a big fallout with his family and went abroad to study. He cut ties, and they stopped sending him money. Given the situation, Daryl might've kept his background under wraps. Plus, they hadn't been together long enough to talk marriage.
Cecilia turned to look out the window, sneering, "He's a rich kid, feeling lonely in a foreign land, so he wants to hook up with me. He probably got a kick out of pretending to be poor and watching me chase after rich guys. Maybe he likes messing with helpless girls, then swooping in to save them, making them rely on him!"
Susan saw the sadness in Cecilia's eyes. She didn't know the full story between Cecilia and Daryl, but it felt even more tangled than her own mess with Seb.
"Didn't you just say you love him?" Susan tried to comfort her.
Cecilia's eyes went blank for a second, then she gave a bitter smile. "I do love him, more than I can control. But to him, I'm just a plaything."
"Don't be so down. Maybe he treats you like that because he's hurt by you. He is just angry with you. You should try talking to him. I've met Daryl, and the concern and pain in his eyes at the hospital were real," Susan said gently.
Cecilia stared at Susan for a few seconds, taking in her words but still unsure.
"Are you saying he really likes me?" Cecilia asked, hesitant.
"That's what I saw in Daryl's eyes," Susan replied with a small smile.
After a moment of silence, Cecilia finally spoke up. "But you don't know how cold, sarcastic, and rude he is to me now. He won't even look at me. It feels like he's only trying to have sex with me, as if I'm a plaything he purchased. I'm sorry for being so blunt, but he really is my first man!"
Susan stared at Cecilia, a bit stunned.
She believed her because she'd been through similar stuff at that age.
Susan didn't know what else to say. She was an outsider and didn't fully get the whole situation.
Then, Susan reached out and held Cecilia's hand on the table, smiling. "Since you've chosen this path, walk it with confidence. Whether you're happy or sad, it's still a day."
Cecilia lowered her head, thinking, then looked up with a smile. "You're right. No matter what, I have to get through this year. Besides, I still love him. I hope to stay by his side. We'll see what happens after a year."
"Yeah," Susan nodded. That seemed like the only way.
Cecilia smiled and said, "Sorry for rambling on so much."
Susan glanced at her watch and smiled. "I have to go. Need to get home and make dinner."
"I need to make dinner too. Daryl said he's coming home for dinner tonight," Cecilia's face showed a mix of helplessness and a bit of hope.
It reminded Susan of her own situation, wanting to see Seb but also dreading it. It was all so contradictory.
"Let's go together then," Susan said as she paid and stood up.
Cecilia insisted on paying. "I invited you, so I should pay."
Susan smiled. "I'll pay this time, and you can pay next time."
Cecilia didn't argue and smiled. "Alright then, Susan. Is it okay if I call you that?"
"Of course!" The name "Susan" made them feel closer.
"Can we add each other on WhatsApp?" Cecilia asked sincerely.
Susan nodded and smiled. "Of course."
They added each other on WhatsApp and then said their goodbyes.
On the way back, Susan couldn't help sighing.
Cecilia and Daryl did love each other, but Cecilia's family had caused a rift. She hoped they could work things out and be together.
Susan had her own problems to deal with and didn't have the energy to think much about Cecilia.
Back at the villa, Susan got busy in the kitchen, not even letting Kathy help.
By 6:30 PM, a table full of dishes was ready.
Just as Susan was eagerly waiting, Seb walked in.
Susan silently watched him.
Kathy took Seb's coat and smiled. "Mr. Anderson, Ms. Wilson has been busy all afternoon. She made a table full of dishes that you, Hayden, and Spring like."
Seb looked up and met Susan's gaze.
Their eyes locked.
Seb frowned slightly, and seeing his deep eyes, Susan felt a mix of emotions.
