Chapter 145 His Residual Warmth
"Of course, it's you! I'm Hayden's dad, so you're his mom," Seb said plainly.
Susan knew he was being tricky. She smiled and said, "Don't talk nonsense. I'm not falling for it!"
"You can reject me, but you can't reject Hayden," Seb said, looking deeply at her.
His words hit her hard. Hayden was so adorable; she couldn't say no to him.
The car slowly pulled over.
Susan looked out the window. "I'm here!"
She reached for the door, but Seb grabbed her wrist and pulled her back.
In the dim light, Susan whispered, "You can't go back on your word!"
"Who said I would?" Seb replied, cupping her face.
"What are you doing?" Susan glanced nervously at the driver, Leon.
Seb moved closer.
Susan tensed up, unable to scream or push him away.
Just as she braced herself, Seb only kissed her forehead lightly.
Susan looked at him, surprised. He let go of her.
"Is that all?" she asked, stunned.
Seb teased, "What else do you want?"
Susan's face turned red. She'd been tricked again!
Annoyed but secretly happy, she muttered, "Annoying!" and quickly got out of the car.
As she ran into the hallway, her face blushed.
She'd seen Hayden and unexpectedly ran into Seb. Not only that, but he kissed her.
Feeling satisfied, she touched her forehead, where his warmth lingered.
That kiss would stay with her until their half-month agreement ended.
But didn't Seb say Cynthia was flying to Averlake in three days? So, in four days, they could be together every day?
Excited but worried, she wondered if Cynthia might not leave in three days.
Lost in thought, she opened the door.
A figure rushed at her, startling her.
"Where have you been? Why are you back so late?" Isabella shouted.
"You scared me! Why didn't you turn on the lights or let me know you were coming?" Susan said, clutching her chest.
"I called you several times, but you didn't answer. If you hadn't answered soon, I would've called the police!" Isabella complained.
Susan pulled out her phone and saw it was still on silent.
"Hayden was napping this afternoon, and I didn't want a call to wake him, so I put it on silent and forgot to switch it back," she explained, adjusting her phone settings.
"I'm starving. I've been waiting for you to come back so we can go out to eat. Let's go!" Isabella grabbed her bag and pushed Susan out the door.
Susan frowned. "We could just cook at home. You know I'm unemployed and need to save money."
"Tonight's on me. I have some fantastic news to share," Isabella said, dragging her out.
"What good news?" Susan asked, puzzled.
Isabella looked radiant and excited.
"Guess," Isabella teased as she hailed a cab.
Susan glanced at her. "You look radiant. I bet you have a boyfriend!"
Isabella immediately put on a stern face. "Don't rub salt in my wounds!"
"If it's not a boyfriend, then I really can't guess," Susan said, shaking her head.
Once they were in the cab, Isabella finally revealed the reason.
"That bitch resigned! Haha!" Isabella laughed, covering her face.
"Cynthia?" Susan asked.
"Who else? Not only did she resign, but she was also hospitalized recently. She's supposed to be heading back to Averlake soon. This is great news for you too. She won't be able to mess with you and Seb anymore!" Isabella was beyond excited.
"Who told you that?" Susan asked.
"The company settled her salary today. It's a done deal!" Isabella replied.
Susan thought, 'Seb was telling the truth. Cynthia is definitely leaving this time. With her salary settled, there's no room for negotiation.' Her mood instantly lifted.
"Cynthia should be heading back to Averlake in three days," Susan said.
"You knew?" Isabella's eyes widened.
"Yeah, Seb said he booked her a flight to Averlake in three days," Susan nodded.
Mouth agape in surprise, Isabella smacked Susan, complaining, "Why didn't you tell me sooner? If I had known Cynthia was leaving, I could have been happy for a few more days. She's been driving me crazy!"
"Seb just told me," Susan said.
"Great, now I won't have to endure Cynthia's scolding anymore, and no one will interfere with you and Seb's relationship. Tonight, we won't go home until we're drunk, okay?" Isabella said enthusiastically.
Susan rolled her eyes at the jubilant Isabella. "You can stay out all night because tomorrow is the weekend. I can't. I need to keep sending out resumes and looking for a job."
Isabella immediately grabbed Susan's arm and pleaded, "Come on, just this once!"
"No way!" Susan refused firmly.
"You're not being a good friend. I played third wheel to you and Seb for over a month, and I stuck it out. Now you can't even accompany me once? I won't talk to you anymore!" Isabella pretended to be angry.
Seeing this, Susan had no choice but to hold Isabella's hand. "Alright, I'll accompany you tonight, okay?"
"Great," Isabella laughed.
