Chapter 36

'Seb's back in Maple Valley?' Susan was momentarily stunned.

"Mrs. Anderson, if there's nothing else, I'll hang up now." Ellie on the other end ended the call.

Susan couldn't wrap her head around it. Seb had rushed back at midnight and left again at 6:30 this morning. 'If he knew he had work, why spend over four hours traveling? Did he come just to see me?'

Her heart started to race at the thought.

Breakfast was a feast—milk, sandwiches, and bread. As she ate, Susan couldn't stop thinking about Seb. She realized she was starting to like him.

The morning activity was flower viewing and tea at Moon Bay Resort, but Susan was distracted, her mind filled with thoughts of Seb.

Lunch tasted bland to her.

Isabella glanced at Susan and chuckled. "Why so down today? Missing Seb already?"

Susan realized why she felt so off. Startled, she quickly retorted, "What nonsense! I'm pregnant, okay? Of course, I'm eating and sleeping a lot."

Isabella thought for a moment and nodded. "I thought Seb had charmed you in just two days."

"Stop talking nonsense." Susan rolled her eyes.

As they joked, a colleague from finance walked over, smiling. "Isabella, Susan, you got a free trip and won a few thousand dollars from us. Shouldn't you treat the finance department when we get back to Maple Valley?"

Several finance colleagues chimed in, saying Isabella and Susan should spend some money to comfort their wounded hearts since they had won their money.

Isabella laughed. "A bet's a bet. We bet Mr. Anderson would come to the resort, and you bet he wouldn't."

"You're so stingy! Each of you won four thousand dollars. Can't you each take out two hundred for snacks?" Brooklyn teased.

Isabella was about to respond when Susan patted her shoulder, stood up, and smiled. "A treat's no problem. But let's keep it to snacks, nothing extravagant."

"Barbecue and beer will do!" The colleagues promised.

"Alright, tomorrow night then!" Susan said boldly.

Just then, a few colleagues noticed someone behind Susan and quickly stopped laughing, lowering their heads respectfully. "Mr. Anderson."

Susan's expression froze. She slowly turned and saw Seb standing behind her, his expression unreadable.

"Mr. Anderson," Susan quickly greeted, lowering her head.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Seb's gaze flicker over her before he turned and left, looking displeased.

After Seb left, the colleagues began to discuss nervously.

"Is Mr. Anderson upset because we used him as a bet?"

"Oh no, our finance department has offended him."

"Mr. Anderson wouldn't be that petty, would he?"

Hearing these words, Susan felt uneasy. Seb's face had indeed been very dark just now. 'Could he really be angry?' she wondered.

"Do you think he minds that I used him as a bet?" Susan asked Isabella, seeking some advice.

Isabella shook her head. "It's just your bad luck. Winning four thousand dollars but offending Seb isn't worth it."

"What should I do?" Susan anxiously tugged at her hair.

"Go and appease him," Isabella suggested with a smile.

Susan frowned and said reluctantly, "Is that appropriate?"

Isabella urged, "What's inappropriate? You two are legally married, after all."

"I'll see," Susan pouted.

She felt a bit annoyed. 'Seb had gone to attend a ceremony, so why did he come back at noon? And how unlucky was I to have Seb overhear me?'

After lunch, everyone was packing up to return, and Susan was no exception. She went to the VIP area to pack her luggage.

As soon as she entered the villa, she saw Ellie standing in the living room with Susan's suitcase beside her.

Seeing Susan, Ellie stepped forward and smiled. "Mrs. Anderson, your luggage is ready."

Looking at the suitcase, Susan reached out to take it. She glanced upstairs and couldn't help but ask, "Has Mr. Anderson left?"

"Mr. Anderson and Mr. Johnson have already left," Ellie replied.

Hearing this, Susan nodded, forced a smile, and left with her luggage.

Upstairs, by the window, Seb watched Susan leave with her suitcase.

Susan walked under a few trees, white flowers swaying in the breeze, petals falling onto her hair and shoulders.

Although she knew there was no love between her and Seb, Susan felt an indescribable emotion at this moment. She suddenly missed Seb and hoped to see him now to explain the bet.

Susan suddenly turned her head and looked towards the window, feeling as if Seb hadn't left.

At that moment, Seb, seeing her look towards the window, quickly hid behind the curtain.

After a moment, Seb turned back to look outside, but Susan was already gone.

Just then, the sound of high heels approached, and Ellie walked in, saying, "Mr. Anderson, Mrs. Anderson has boarded the bus."

Seb pondered for a couple of seconds and then instructed, "Call the driver and tell him to drive slowly and ensure safety."

"Yes," Ellie responded and left.

Seb lit a cigarette, his eyes gloomy as he looked at the beautiful scenery outside the window.

Since Susan appeared, his heart had been in turmoil. He didn't know if it was because of Susan's personality or her appearance, but the scar in his heart was aching again. He took a couple of deep puffs and then stubbed out the cigarette in the ashtray.

The next day, Susan was restless in the office all morning.

She was now looking forward to lunchtime, hoping to see Seb at Velvet Sky Bistro and explain the bet to him.

At noon, Susan rushed out of work, grabbed her bag, and made her way to Velvet Sky Bistro, where she found Leon by the entrance, his gaze fixed on her with a peculiar expression.

"Mr. Johnson, hello," Susan greeted Leon and tried to walk in.

But Leon reached out to stop her. Susan looked at him in confusion, not understanding why.
