Chapter 869 A Fantastic Experience

Susan knew Hugo wasn't taking her to some tourist trap for horseback riding; the hills and meadows here were perfect for it.

Even though Susan felt a bit excited—who didn't love the majestic feeling of sitting on a horse?—she had zero skills and was pretty scared.

Next thing she knew, Hugo was knocking on the door, urging her. "You ready?"

Susan walked over and opened it.

As soon as the door swung open, Hugo saw Susan looking stunning, her blue eyes even more radiant.

Susan, still worried about her lack of riding skills, didn't catch the amazed look in Hugo's eyes.

"Hugo, are you taking me horseback riding?" Susan asked, a bit anxious.

"You're sharp," Hugo nodded with a smile.

"But I don't know how to ride a horse!" Susan said, frowning.

Hugo just laughed and took her hand, leading her outside. "It's easy, I can teach you!"

"But I'm scared!" Susan still remembered her first time riding a horse at a tourist spot.

Back then, the horse was tiny, and someone was leading it from the front. Even then, she felt wobbly and screamed her head off.

Hugo stayed calm. "Don't worry, I'm definitely your best coach. I might not be great at everything, but horseback riding and swimming? Those are my jam."

"But..." Susan was naturally very nervous.

Hugo had already led her to the estate.

A middle-aged man was waiting with a horse.

Susan saw the chestnut-colored, very strong horse. She liked it, but it was too tall, and she was probably going to be super scared riding it.

Hugo smiled at Susan, who was eyeing the horse. "This horse has been with me for a long time, it's really gentle. I'll help you get on."

"No, please," Susan said, looking troubled. She envied people who could ride horses but was still pretty timid about doing it herself.

"I'll protect you," Hugo said, and without waiting for her response, he helped her onto the horse.

Sitting on the horse, Susan immediately felt much taller. She gripped the reins tightly, her whole body tense.

Next moment, Hugo leaped onto the horse behind her. He squeezed the horse's belly with his legs and gave its rear a couple of taps. The horse neighed, raised its front hooves, and then started running out of the estate.

Susan didn't expect Hugo's way of protecting her was to sit behind her. Hugo was a gentleman; even though he sat behind her, he didn't press his body against hers, keeping a bit of distance.

Susan felt warm inside because of Hugo's thoughtfulness and gentlemanly behavior.

But the next moment, Susan had no time to think about sharing a horse with Hugo.

As the horse ran faster and faster, the wind in her ears made Susan super nervous. She gripped the reins tightly and clamped her legs around the horse's belly, but still felt unsafe. Her whole body stiffened, and she couldn't help but scream, "I'm scared, Hugo."

At that moment, Hugo suddenly wrapped one arm around Susan's waist and whispered in her ear, "Don't worry, I won't let you fall!"

"No, I'm still scared, stop," Susan cried out, her fear escalating as the horse picked up speed.

"Susan, trust me, you'll get used to it!" Hugo said, trying to be patient.

"No, I can't get used to it," Susan's voice was shaky, tears threatening to spill.

The horse charged up a hill in one go. Finally, it paused to catch its breath, and Susan felt a brief moment of relief.

But then, the horse suddenly started rushing downhill.

Susan couldn't help but scream.

Going downhill was way faster than going up, the wind in her ears even more intense. The horse seemed to be flying, and in a panic, Susan grabbed its mane with one hand.

But that wasn't the worst part. The worst part was when the horse got spooked by a rock at the bottom of the hill.

The horse reared up, neighing loudly.

Susan was so scared her face turned pale, and she even forgot to scream.

Seeing this, Hugo quickly hugged Susan's waist and got off the horse.

Susan closed her eyes in fear, her arms wrapped tightly around Hugo's neck.

The horse's neighing still echoed in her ears, and Susan was so scared she lost all sense of herself.

Hugo looked at Susan, who was clinging to him, her eyes shut tight, face pale. A look of pity and affection appeared in his blue eyes.

In a sea of tulips, the horse quietly wandered nearby, while a tall man held a petite woman in his arms. The bright sunlight shone on the flower field, and the flowers swayed gently with the breeze.

After a while, Susan slowly opened her eyes and found herself standing safely on the ground.

The next moment, she realized her arms were still wrapped around Hugo's neck. Shocked, she quickly let go and took a couple of steps back.

"I'm sorry, I was just really scared," Susan apologized awkwardly.

Seeing Susan's flustered look, Hugo smiled. "I should be the one apologizing. I didn't realize you were so timid. Last time I saw you climbing Manuel's gate, you seemed pretty brave."

Hearing this, Susan's face turned red. She stammered, "The gate doesn't move, but I never know where the horse will run next."

Hearing Susan's reasonable words, Hugo nodded with a smile. "You're right. I was too hasty. I need to teach you horseback riding step by step."

Hearing that he hadn't given up on teaching her to ride, Susan quickly waved her hands in fear. "No, I don't want to learn anymore!"

Seeing Susan's scared look, Hugo shook his head with a smile.

In the sunlight, Hugo's smile was particularly bright, his blue eyes even more transparent and bright, making people feel at ease.

Admittedly, Hugo's cheerful and elegant demeanor really affected Susan, making her feel less gloomy and realize that the world was still beautiful.

"Riding a horse isn't that difficult. Come on, I'll guide the horse while you sit and enjoy the ride," Hugo said as he helped Susan mount again.

Susan could only grip the reins tightly, feeling extremely nervous.
