Chapter 308 Jerk
Just as Dominic was grinning and about to bounce, Susan jumped in front of him, all urgent-like, "Mr. Robinson, you really don't know Mrs. Robinson, do you?"
Dominic's grin froze. He glared at Susan, "What do you mean?"
Seeing the doubt in his eyes, Susan shot back, "Mrs. Robinson wants us to double the budget. You're a businessman; you get what I'm saying, right?"
Dominic squinted, processing her words.
"In our biz, if there's a big mess-up in the case, we gotta take the heat legally. That's why this case has been through so many accountants," Susan said, hinting but not outright accusing Sophia of skimming off the top.
Even with her roundabout way, Dominic was fuming then.
"I get it. You're saying my wife is jacking up the budget to swipe cash from my company, huh?" Dominic barked, his voice booming and making Susan's ears ring. This was exactly what she expected.
"Mr. Robinson, do you even know Sophia's past? Do you know what kind of person she really is? If you did, you wouldn't be so shocked. You'd see her actions today as just her usual shtick," Susan said, staying cool.
But her words lit a fire under Dominic.
He stepped forward, backing Susan into a corner on the terrace. "What kind of beef do you have with my wife to trash-talk her like this? Let me tell you; my wife means the world to me, and I don't buy your crap. I don't want to see you again!"
With that, Dominic turned to leave. After a few steps, he spun back and snapped, "I'm done with Pioneer Accounting Firm. I'm switching firms!"
And with that, he stormed off.
Susan panicked. She rushed forward and blurted out, "Sophia used to be a homewrecker. She stole her ex-husband from another woman, wrecked their family, and then started an insurance company with him. Her ways of selling insurance were shady. Any rich guy who bought from her ended up divorcing their wives. Now she's with you, she ditched her husband of over twenty years. I don't know if she loves you, but she's definitely after your money."
Before Susan could finish, Dominic stormed back, "You really deserve a smack. Looks like I need to teach you a lesson to shut you up!"
With that, Dominic raised his hand to slap Susan.
Susan flinched. She didn't expect Dominic to hit a woman, so she didn't have time to dodge. She braced herself, thinking this slap might knock her teeth out.
Just when Susan thought she was about to get slapped, a shadow zipped in, and an arm grabbed Dominic's wrist.
In a blur, a strong arm wrapped around her waist, pulling her into a warm hug.
Then, a familiar deep voice came from above her head. "Mr. Robinson, can't we just talk this out? Why hit a woman?"
Susan looked up and saw Seb's stern face under the dim light. She was shocked. What was he doing here?
Dominic, seeing Seb clearly, explained, "Oh, it's Mr. Anderson. This woman insulted my wife, so I had to teach her a lesson."
Seb tightened his grip, making Dominic wince in pain.
"Mr. Anderson, your grip is too strong. I'm old and can't take it!" Dominic said, pointing to the arm Seb was holding.
Seb let go and gave a cold smile. "Mr. Robinson, from what I know, she's not wrong. I think you don't really know Mrs. Robinson."
Dominic frowned deeply, staring at Seb, seemingly taking it seriously.
Then, Dominic's eyes fell on Susan's face. Seeing Seb holding her waist protectively, he couldn't help but ask, "Mr. Anderson, who is this lady?"
"The mother of my kids!" Seb answered smoothly.
Susan, still in Seb's arms, frowned.
After the initial shock, Susan realized her body was almost pressed against Seb's, which felt really inappropriate. She tried to push him away, but Seb's body was like a wall, completely immovable. She couldn't create any distance because Seb's grip on her waist was too tight.
Dominic was stunned for a moment before stammering, "I'm sorry, Mr. Anderson. I lost my temper just now!"
It was clear Dominic was wary of Seb. Given his age, Dominic should be his elder. Susan, having previously worked at Prosperity Group, knew the group's software technology purchases were significant, especially those used in their products. Seb was essentially Dominic's supplier, so Dominic naturally had to be cautious around him.
"That's fine, as long as you remember her identity in the future," Seb said coldly.
"Yeah, I'll remember. Excuse me." Dominic took out a handkerchief from his pocket, wiped his shiny forehead, and left the terrace.
After Dominic left, Susan said in disgust, "Can you let go of me now?"
Seb looked down at Susan, who was raising her chin stubbornly, and suddenly couldn't help but kiss her cheek.
Caught off guard by the kiss, Susan was momentarily at a loss but still angrily tried to push him away.
However, Seb's hands firmly held her waist.
"Jerk!" Susan cursed, unable to move him.
Hearing this curse, Seb didn't get angry. Instead, he laughed and said, "Didn't you used to like this jerk?"
