Chapter 1332 Urinated
Daryl had always had a strong dislike for the kid in Freya's arms, but he couldn't deny that Thaddeus was pretty darn cute. The kid was bigger than most his age, and the way his chubby little hands waved at Daryl was kind of endearing.
Despite Thaddeus's cuteness, Daryl found his chubby face and innocent smile especially annoying.
So, the next moment, Daryl told Douglas, "Take them to the lounge for now."
"Sure thing, Mr. Fields," Douglas replied, leading Freya out of the CEO's office.
After they left, Daryl slumped into his leather chair, his mind racing. He grabbed a pack of cigarettes, lit one up, and took a few deep drags.
Just then, Douglas came back into the room.
Seeing Daryl looking so down, Douglas cautiously asked, "Mr. Fields, I got two strands of Thaddeus's hair. Should we do a paternity test?"
Douglas understood Daryl's dilemma—he was torn about who the kid's father really was.
After a long silence, Daryl finally said, "No need. Just one look at the kid's features, and you can tell he's a Fields. Elijah and I are brothers; our DNA is very similar. A paternity test wouldn't definitively tell us whose son he is."
Douglas thought for a moment, then quickly pulled something from his pocket and placed it on Daryl's desk. "Mr. Fields, this is Thaddeus's birth certificate."
Daryl was taken aback. He picked up the birth certificate and examined it closely.
After a few moments, Daryl's grip tightened on the document.
"According to the birth certificate, Thaddeus is exactly eight months and one week old today. That means Mrs. Fields gave birth to him ten months after she left you," Douglas explained, frowning.
Hearing this, Daryl couldn't help but let out a bitter laugh.
He stood up and stubbed out his cigarette forcefully in the ashtray. Then he walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, looking out at the skyscrapers. "Women usually give birth a little over nine months after conception. Even if they go past their due date, it's never more than a week. It's been ten months and a week since I was with her, and she gave birth to Thaddeus. She was nearly a month late. Do you think this kid could be mine?"
Daryl's voice trembled, and his hands clenched into fists.
Douglas lowered his head, unsure of what to say. After a moment, he mustered the courage to speak. "Mr. Daryl Fields, I believe Mr. Elijah Fields and Mrs. Fields aren't like that."
Daryl let out a cold laugh. "I thought so too, but the facts are right in front of me. I can't ignore them."
He turned and slumped back into his chair, holding his head in his hands, despondent.
"What should we do with Freya and Thaddeus now?" Douglas asked, frowning.
Daryl didn't lift his head for a long time. Finally, he said, "Send them to the Fields Mansion. Hand them over to my mother."
Douglas was taken aback. "Mr. Fields, you want to give Thaddeus to your mother?"
Daryl rubbed his temples. "Look, Thaddeus is a Fields, no matter what. My mom's been wanting a grandkid for years. Whether he's mine or Elijah's, he's still her grandson. Just give him to her. I don't want Cecilia raising Thaddeus anymore."
"But..." Douglas began to protest.
Daryl cut him off with a wave. "Just do it."
"Get it." Douglas replied, backing out of the room.
After Douglas left, Daryl lit another cigarette, one after another, until the office was thick with smoke.
When Freya arrived at the Fields Mansion with Thaddeus, Azalea, who was lounging on the couch, was stunned.
"Whose kid is this? Why is he here?" Azalea asked, bewildered, as she got up and touched the chubby little hand of the child in the Freya's arms.
Thaddeus, naturally unafraid of strangers, giggled at Azalea's touch.
"This child is so adorable. Let me hold him," Azalea said, reaching out to take Thaddeus.
"Oh my, he's quite heavy," Azalea remarked, looking at the baby in her arms with growing affection.
Seeing Azalea's fondness for Thaddeus, Douglas stepped forward with a smile. "Mr. Fields asked me to bring him to you."
Azalea stared at Douglas in shock, taking a moment to process. "What did you say? Daryl sent this child to me? Where did he get a child?"
"I'm not sure. Mr. Daryl Fields said you were feeling lonely at home, so he sent a child to keep you company. He'll be staying here from now on. His name is Thaddeus," Douglas explained, trying to sound confident.
Azalea was even more bewildered. "A child to keep me company? He didn't kidnap him, did he?"
Douglas quickly reassured her. "No, no, absolutely not. Everything is legit."
"What do you mean, legit?" Azalea demanded.
"Well, I don't know the details. Mr. Fields has other matters for me to attend to. Just take care of the child. His name is Thaddeus," Douglas said before hastily leaving.
After Douglas left, Azalea, though puzzled, couldn't help but smile at the chubby baby in her arms. "This little one is so cute. Oh dear, he's wet! He peed!"
Freya rushed over. "I forgot to put a diaper on him. I'm so sorry!"
"It's fine," Azalea laughed, not at all upset, and went to change her clothes.
Soon, Azalea returned, still holding Thaddeus, her affection for him growing by the minute.
From the staircase, Elijah watched the scene, frowning.
Thaddeus? Why are Thaddeus and Freya at the Fields Mansion? Something must have happened to Cecilia.
Elijah quickly ran out of the mansion.
In the hospital room, Cecilia was on edge.
Though her mastitis hadn't healed, she couldn't sit still. But with two bodyguards outside the door, leaving was nearly impossible.
