Chapter 333 Sulking

Seb's eyes were glued to the brown paper envelope on the coffee table, and as Susan kept talking, his face got darker and darker.

The room went dead silent. Susan could see the anger brewing in Seb's gloomy eyes.

But she had to do this. Seb had risked his neck for her family, and she had to cover his medical bills.

Just then, Kathy walked in with a cup of coffee.

She set the coffee down and noticed Seb on the couch and Susan standing there, staring each other down. Kathy could tell something was up.

As Kathy was about to bounce, the doorbell rang, and she went to get it.

Once Kathy left, Seb sneered, "Susan, you think I'm some kind of volunteer hero? You really think paying my medical bills makes everything square?"

Susan frowned. "What more do you want? I'm tapped out. This is all I got. If it's not enough, I can write you an IOU and pay you back bit by bit."

Susan's words set Seb off. He jumped up, veins popping on his forehead, and glared at her. "Susan, no matter what I do for you, do you even care? What do I have to do to get you to notice me? Yeah, I messed up before, and I'm not asking for forgiveness. But can you at least not shut me out?"

With that, Seb tossed the brown paper envelope to the floor.

His eyes were a storm of anger, sadness, and pain. Susan couldn't bear to look at him and dropped her gaze.

She slowly crouched down, picked up the envelope, and put it back on the table. She said softly, "You've done a lot for me. I don't blame you anymore, but..."

"But what?" Seb grabbed her shoulders and turned her to face him.

Susan looked up and saw the desperation in his eyes.

Deep down, she still loved him. But after everything, she was exhausted and didn't want to talk about feelings anymore. Besides, she couldn't just forget the past.

So, she said, "But we’re not possible anymore!"

Seb's brows knitted tightly.

After staring at her for a moment, he shook his head. "No, I don't believe you don't have feelings for me anymore."

Susan didn't want to argue. She pushed his hand away. "It's impossible between us, Seb. Face reality!"

Maybe she pushed too hard, and Seb, still shaky on his feet, stumbled back onto the couch.

Seeing this, Susan wanted to help him up. She didn't want him to fall, and she was worried about his leg. But she knew helping him would give him false hope, so she pulled back.

From Seb's angle, he couldn't see this.

Leaning on the couch, he saw her standing there, not moving, and felt a deep sense of disappointment.

"Do you really not give a damn about me anymore?" Seb asked, his eyes full of hurt.

"I don't," Susan shot back, standing tall.

Seb let out a bitter laugh. "Fine, whatever."

Susan knew Seb was a proud guy, maybe even a bit cocky. By shutting him down so hard, he probably wouldn't bother her again.

Just then, footsteps echoed from the foyer.

Kathy led a tall, stylish woman into the room.

"Mr. Anderson, this is Ms. Ward. She says she's a friend of yours and came to visit," Kathy said, bowing slightly.

Susan looked up and saw Linda, rocking a bright green suit, walking in with a basket of fruit and some supplements, smiling.

Susan felt a bit awkward. She didn't expect to run into Linda in this situation.

Linda, looking all radiant, smiled at Seb on the couch. "Mr. Anderson, hope you're not mad at me showing up uninvited."

Seb's face was still dark, but he forced a polite smile. "Thanks for coming."

"I went to the hospital this morning and heard you were discharged. I was worried, so I came to check on you after work," Linda said, tucking a curl of hair behind her ear, a shy smile on her face.

Linda's gaze fell on Susan, and she frowned slightly. "Susan, you're here too?"

Seeing Linda's curious look, Susan quickly said, "Oh, I came to pick up Spring."

Linda glanced at Spring, who was playing with a doll on the slide, and smiled. "Spring looks like a little princess, so cute. I'm so sorry, I didn't bring a gift for her. I'll make up for it next time!"

"You're too kind," Susan forced a smile, feeling super awkward.

So, the next moment, she said, "I'll pack up and take Spring with me. Excuse me."

With that, Susan walked over to Spring. She took the doll from Spring's hands and tried to hold Spring's hand to leave, but Spring, engrossed in playing, took the doll back and kept playing.

Susan was anxious but didn't want to make Spring cry, feeling very awkward. She really wanted to bail, or it would seem like she was sticking around to see Linda and Seb's interaction.

"Ms. Ward, please have a seat. I'll make some coffee," Kathy said politely and then headed to the kitchen.

Linda chose a single sofa closest to Seb and sat down, smiling charmingly. "Is it okay for you to be out of bed with your injury?"

"It's fine," Seb replied, still a bit cold compared to Linda's enthusiasm.

"Better be careful. You don't want any lasting effects," Linda said softly.

Facing away from them, Susan could tell what Linda was here for. Linda's makeup was on point, and her outfit not only highlighted her figure but also made her look pure and charming. It was clear she had dressed up carefully.

At this moment, Susan didn't want to stay any longer. She roughly snatched the doll from Spring's hands and then scooped Spring up into her arms.
