Chapter 540 I Am Yours Now
Catherine gave Todd a shove, and since his leg was already wobbly, he almost ate dirt. Seeing this, Catherine freaked out and rushed to catch him.
Todd was a big dude, while Catherine was tiny and had no chance of holding him up. In a panic, she wrapped her arms around his waist.
In her mind, Todd couldn't afford another fall. If his leg broke again, they'd be in deep trouble.
Todd, in his panic, naturally clung to Catherine. Once he got his balance back, their eyes locked.
Even though they had feelings for each other, they'd been keeping it cool, not even holding hands. The only time they touched was when Catherine was taking care of him.
Catherine's hand rested on Todd's cashmere coat. He was so tall that even when she looked up, she couldn't see his nose.
Todd reached out and touched Catherine's face, saying with emotion, "Catherine, we're not getting any younger. Let's stop wasting time. You like me, I like you. Why can't we just be together?"
Hearing this, Catherine looked down and said, "But you have a family."
"Susan should've told you I've already asked Carol for a divorce. If she doesn't agree after the New Year, I'll take it to court. I'd rather leave with nothing and get my freedom back. I came today to tell you I won't force you to be with me right now. I know you hate being the other woman, and I don't want you to be judged. Catherine, wait for me. Once I'm divorced, I'll come find you!" Todd said in one breath, then let go of Catherine and turned to leave.
"Todd!" Catherine called out as he was about to leave.
Hearing her, Todd stopped in his tracks.
Catherine covered her mouth, crying.
Todd turned around and saw Catherine silently shedding tears as she looked at him.
Todd frowned, and the next moment, he stepped forward and pulled Catherine into his arms!
At that moment, Catherine couldn't hold back her feelings any longer. She hugged his waist, pressing her face against his chest, feeling his broad chest and warm embrace.
"Catherine, I love you!" Todd's hand caressed Catherine's face, and then he lowered his head and kissed her.
The sudden kiss made Catherine's heart race. It had been years since a man had been close to her. From thirty to now, twenty years had passed. She had longed for her true love during these twenty years, but she had always kept herself pure. This time, she couldn't control her feelings anymore and responded to Todd's kiss. They became entwined in a passionate embrace.
Soon after, the room fell into silence.
The floor was littered with their clothes. The room's door and curtains were tightly closed. Although it was sunny outside, the room was very dim.
Catherine lay in Todd's arms, her face flushed but her brows furrowed because she had lost control and done something she shouldn't have with Todd.
Seeing Catherine's worried look, Todd grabbed her hand and felt like crap. "Catherine, this is all on me. You can yell at me or whatever, just don't be upset. I..."
Before he could finish, Catherine quickly covered his mouth!
"I'm not blaming you. It's me. Whenever I'm with you, I just lose control," Catherine said, regret all over her face.
Hearing this, Todd's face lit up. He pulled her hand down and held it tight.
"I feel the same way. At this age, I thought love was done for me, but meeting you now feels like fate's giving me a second chance!" Todd said, all emotional.
Catherine snuggled into Todd's arms, her hand on his chest. "Why did we meet so late? But even if we had met earlier, you wouldn't have liked a plain housewife like me. Susan said you used to be a big shot."
"Back then, I was all about work and didn't care much about family, which messed things up with Carol. When I retired and wanted to enjoy family life, I realized I had screwed up my marriage. But it was too late to fix it. That's when I felt lonely. Catherine, I should thank you. You made me feel alive again. With you, I'd rather be just a regular guy. But being with me won't be all fancy. I'll just have my parents' old house and my pension, which is just enough for us. I also have some royalties from my books, and I can keep writing," Todd rambled on, not wanting to stop. Catherine had changed everything for him.
Catherine cut him off. "Stop talking. I've been through tough times. It can't be worse than before, right? Besides, I'm already yours, so I'll stick with you."
As she said this, Catherine's face turned red.
Hearing this, Todd hugged her tighter, like he wanted to merge with her.
Soon after, Catherine pushed Todd and said, "It's getting late. You should go back. It'd be awkward if Dorothy and Amanda came back and saw you."
Todd got it. Running into Dorothy and Amanda now would be a mess, so he got out of bed and started getting dressed.
After Catherine fixed herself up, she helped Todd put on his cashmere coat, carefully buttoning each button.
Looking down at the reluctant Catherine, Todd said seriously, "Catherine, you gotta wait for me!"
Catherine slowly looked up at Todd and said, "Todd, let's not see each other until you're divorced."
Hearing this, Todd's eyes were full of reluctance, but he got where she was coming from.
Then Todd said, "Alright, we won't see each other for now, but I'll always be thinking of you."
After saying that, he held her hand tightly.
