Chapter 58 Seb's Ex-Girlfriend
In a flash, Susan was already three months pregnant. Her belly had a slight bump, and the morning sickness was gone. Now, she was eating a lot and getting hungry quickly, so she had put on some weight. But honestly, she looked even more radiant and attractive.
That evening, Kathy hung up and told Susan, who was lounging in the living room, "Mrs. Anderson, Mr. Anderson said he has a work thing tonight and won't be home for dinner."
Susan frowned a bit at that.
For the past couple of weeks, Seb had been super busy. He almost never made it home for dinner and usually got back around midnight. Susan felt something was off but couldn't quite figure out what.
"Let's eat then," Susan said after a pause.
She picked at her food, but her appetite just wasn't there.
Later, in the bedroom, Susan leaned against the headboard, watching TV, waiting for Seb to come back around midnight.
He quietly opened the door and was surprised to see Susan still up in her pajamas. "It's so late, why aren't you asleep?" he asked.
The room was dimly lit by the wall lamp and the TV. Susan noticed Seb seemed a bit tipsy. His hair was a mess, and his shirt collar was open.
Seeing he had been drinking, Susan got out of bed and poured him a glass of water. "Couldn't sleep, so I watched some TV."
Seb took the glass but didn't drink. He just set it on the nightstand.
Susan felt like she and Seb hadn't been as close lately. It seemed like he was keeping his distance, but maybe she was just overthinking it.
She smiled and asked, "Been busy at work?"
"Yeah, kinda," Seb said, taking off his clothes.
Susan took his clothes, turned, and hung them in the closet. "Why so many social events lately?" she asked.
"Oh, a classmate came back from abroad, so we've had a few reunions," Seb replied vaguely.
Susan didn't push it. She didn't know much about Seb's friends or classmates anyway.
"I'm gonna take a shower," Seb said, grabbing his pajamas and heading to the bathroom.
Susan stared at the closed bathroom door, feeling a bit lonely.
She almost laughed at herself. Since coming back from the central district, she thought she and Seb were getting closer.
But really, there was still a gap between them. She knew nothing about Seb's past, and he had never introduced her to his friends or classmates.
'Did you really think you were Seb's wife? This marriage was just because of the baby,' Susan thought.
She felt a chill and slowly got into bed, snuggling under the warm covers. She turned off the TV, leaving the room dimly lit by the wall lamp.
Half an hour later, she heard Seb's footsteps approaching the bed.
Seb got into bed and turned off the wall lamp, plunging the room into darkness.
Even though they were under the same blanket, they didn't touch at all.
Susan suddenly realized they hadn't touched each other in days. This realization made her gasp because it was very unusual. Since they started sharing a bed over a month ago, they often cuddled in their sleep.
"I'm going on a business trip tomorrow," Seb suddenly said.
Seb knew she wasn't asleep, so Susan didn't pretend. She asked, "Where to?"
"Averlake," Seb replied.
Hearing this, Susan was stunned. 'Did Prosperity Group have business in Averlake? I had worked at Prosperity Group for years but had never heard of it. Was he going on a private trip?' she thought.
Susan knew Seb probably didn't want to say more, so she didn't ask further. She just asked, "How long will you be gone?"
"About a week," Seb thought for a moment and replied.
"Let me pack your luggage," Susan said, about to get up.
"No need." Seb immediately stopped her.
Susan turned to look at Seb in the dark, frowning.
"I'll just take a few simple clothes. I'll have Kathy help me pack tomorrow. It's late and you should rest," Seb said.
It was already 1 a.m., and packing would indeed disrupt their rest, so Susan gave up.
After that, Seb made no more sound, and within a few minutes, his even breathing indicated he was asleep.
Susan knew Seb was asleep, but she couldn't sleep at all. She tossed and turned for a long time and only fell into a daze when the sky started to lighten.
When Susan opened her eyes again, the glaring sunlight was shining in, making her blink.
She glanced at the clock on the wall and saw it was already 10 a.m.!
She turned her head and saw the pillow next to her was already empty.
In a panic, she threw on a robe and went straight downstairs.
There was no sign of Seb on the first floor either. Susan walked to the kitchen door and saw Kathy making soup. She asked, "Kathy, has Seb left?"
Hearing Susan's voice, Kathy turned around and said in surprise, "Mr. Anderson left at 8 o'clock. His flight was at 9:30, so the plane has been in the air for half an hour by now."
Hearing this, Susan felt a wave of disappointment. She was a bit angry at herself for oversleeping.
Seeing Susan's disappointment, Kathy quickly said, "Mrs. Anderson, don't worry. I've already packed Mr. Anderson's clothes. He didn't want to take too much, saying he could buy everything there. Besides, Mr. Johnson is with him, so he'll take good care of Mr. Anderson."
Susan knew Kathy thought she was worried about Seb, so she smiled slightly. "You're right."
In the evening, Susan timed it so that Seb should have arrived in Averlake and sent him a WhatsApp message.
Susan: [Have you arrived?]
Seb: [The plane has landed safely.]
This was Seb's reply, a simple message with no emotion or personal touch. Susan felt very disappointed and didn't reply.
For three days, Seb didn't contact Susan. Although Susan was curious about his situation, she knew he was safe and didn't reach out to him.
On the fourth morning, Susan received a call from an unknown number.
"Is this Ms. Wilson?" The voice on the other end was a young woman with a sweet voice.
"Yes, who is this?" Susan thought it was either a product promotion or a social survey, so she was a bit indifferent.
However, what was said next on the line left Susan utterly shocked. "Ms. Wilson, my name is Cynthia Phillips. I'm Seb's ex-girlfriend."
