Chapter 273 You Will Never Belong to Me

Susan stepped up and slapped George hard across the cheek. The sound echoed.

George didn't dodge; he took it, still in shock.

"Susan, what are you doing here?" George asked, stunned to see her in the men's restroom.

Susan's eyes brimmed with anger and sorrow. "George, how could you do something so awful? Your character is really questionable!"

George grabbed her arm, trying to explain. "Susan, it's not what you think. Let me explain."

"Fine, explain yourself. Did you arrange the car accident on the day Hayden and I did the paternity test?" Susan's eyes were full of contempt.

She had always seen George as a gentleman, a knight in shining armor. Now, she realized he had done something terrible behind her back. How could she consider marrying him after this?

George was speechless, unable to explain.

Susan sneered, "You can't explain, can you? You're truly terrifying. You'd harm others like this. You're not just despicable; you're ruthless and insane!"

Susan yelled at George in anger.

Luckily, the car accident wasn't serious, and Hayden only had minor injuries. If something worse had happened, she couldn't bear to think about it. George did this because of her, and she felt both terrified and guilty.

George, full of regret, tried to hold Susan's shoulders.

But Susan recoiled in disgust. "Don't touch me!"

"Okay, I won't. Just let me say a few words, alright?" George pleaded.

"There's nothing to say, George. It's over!" Susan's eyes filled with tears.

George had been a big part of her life for the past two years. He was once the most important person to her besides Spring and Hayden. But now, everything had changed. George was too despicable, too unscrupulous. His love was too heavy, too unbearable.

George couldn't accept it. He stepped back, looked up at the ceiling, and was at a loss for words.

Susan, witnessing his evident pain, found little solace in the situation. Today was supposed to be their wedding day, but instead, it had unraveled into this heartbreaking mess.

George shook his head and said, "Susan, do you know how much I love you? I've never felt this way about anyone else. For you, I'd give up the whole world!"

"I believe you love me, but your love is too selfish. You just want to possess me, and you'd stop at nothing. You're a lawyer; don't you get that what you did is both criminal and morally wrong?" Susan asked, tears streaming down her face.

"Of course, I know. Before I met you, my character and ethics were spotless. But my feelings for you made me do foolish things. I never had malicious intent. I just wanted to block Seb from reaching the paternity center with a minor collision. I never meant for anyone to get hurt! Seb is my brother, and I don't want him dead. And Hayden is your son; I'd never harm him," George said, calmer now.

Susan sobbed, unable to control her emotions.

Despite despising George, she believed him. But she couldn't accept him anymore.

George sighed, "Susan, it seems no matter what I do, you'll never be mine. Alright, the wedding is off." He turned and walked out.

Through her tear-blurred eyes, Susan watched him leave. Overwhelmed with emotions, she felt her legs give way, and she slumped against the wall for support.

She had expected George to plead for forgiveness, perhaps even to kneel before her. However, he didn't reach out to hold on to her, but instead took the decisive step of calling off the wedding.

Nevertheless, Susan couldn't shake the feeling of indebtedness towards George. His support and care over the past two years had been instrumental in where she and Spring found themselves today.

Though what George did was unacceptable, his straightforward departure earned him some respect from Susan.

She wiped her tears, composed herself, and left the restroom.

Walking through the corridor with floor-to-ceiling windows, Susan felt dejected.

She had been married twice. The first time ended in divorce. The second time, she was in her wedding dress, but the ceremony was canceled. It seemed she was destined never to marry.

"Susan?"

Lost in thought, she heard someone call her name. As she turned around, she found Henry standing just behind her.

Stunned for a moment, she quickly wiped her tears and forced a smile. "What are you doing here?"

"It was stuffy inside, so I came out for some fresh air," Henry said, smiling.

Susan glanced toward the ceremony hall, wondering if George had informed the hotel about the canceled wedding. Was it chaotic inside with all the guests?

Seeing her distracted and noticing her tear-stained cheeks, Henry hesitated but asked, "Susan, why are you crying?"

Susan quickly wiped her cheeks again and answered, "It's nothing."
