Chapter 988 Gentle and Considerate

Isabella found it tough to stay mad at someone who was being friendly, especially an old guy, even if she didn't like this heartless man.

Holding her belly, Isabella said, "Just say what you need to quickly. I don't think Leon wants you here, and I don't want him to see you and get upset."

Zane didn't get mad at her words. Instead, he stepped forward and said, "Even if you don't like me, I'm still older than you. Can I at least sit down and talk?"

Isabella was speechless but kept her manners. She pointed to a nearby single sofa and said, "Please, have a seat."

Zane smiled and sat down without hesitation.

"Kathy, make some tea!" Isabella called out.

Kathy, who had been standing there stunned, quickly went to the kitchen to make tea.

Isabella then noticed the two men in black suits standing at the entrance and frowned. "Can you ask them to leave? They make me really uneasy."

She touched her belly as she spoke.

Zane quickly waved at the two men and said in a scolding tone, "Get out, you're scaring my grandchild!"

The two men in black suits quickly left.

Zane glanced at Isabella and smiled. "I know Leon went to work today, so I came now. I just want to have a few words with you alone."

Isabella thought for a moment before saying, "Leon has nothing to say to you, and neither do I."

Zane's expression turned complicated. After a long sigh, he said, "Look at me, I'm already old. I might not have much time left. I just want you to persuade him to take over Johnson Corporation. I hope he can reconcile with me while I'm still alive, so I can have no regrets."

Seeing Zane's reddened eyes, Isabella felt a pang of sadness. But thinking about the suffering Leon and his mom endured, she felt Zane deserved his current situation.

So, Isabella sneered. "You should know the harm your heartlessness caused Leon and his mom, right? He won't forgive you easily."

Isabella's words made Zane feel deeply guilty and sad. He gripped his cane tightly, tears streaming down his face. "I know the harm I caused them can't be undone. Even if I want to make amends now, it's too late. I just have one wish, to be buried with Leon's mom after I die. What I couldn't make up for in life, I hope to make up for in death by always being with her."

"How do you know you can't make up for it? His mom is still alive. Although her mental state isn't great, she still recognizes Leon and knows I'm carrying her grandchild. Why wait until after death to make amends?" Isabella's voice was sharp.

Zane was silent for a while before saying, "It's not that I haven't visited her, but she gets agitated every time she sees me, so Leon doesn't allow me to go anymore."

"I think the reason she gets agitated when she sees you is that she still has feelings for you," Isabella said, looking at Zane.

"I get it now. I just need you to talk to Leon. Johnson Corporation can't go on without a successor. I'm really at my wit's end, and I might not have much time left. Johnson Corporation is Leon's grandfather's life's work, and he should inherit it." Zane's eyes were filled with deep hope as he looked at Isabella.

Even though Zane was at fault, Isabella couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for the old man.

With a blank expression, Isabella said, "I understand your intentions. I'll pass the message to Leon. If there's nothing else, please leave."

Zane's face turned grim, and he slowly stood up with the help of his cane.

Watching Zane's staggering back, Isabella felt a pang of sadness.

When Zane reached the entrance, he suddenly stopped, turned, and bowed deeply to Isabella.

Seeing this, Isabella stood up in a panic. Even though she didn't think much of Zane, she couldn't accept an old man bowing to her.

Zane then said, "Thank you for continuing our family line. If Leon's grandfather knew, he would be at peace. I also want to thank you for finally giving Leon a warm and happy family. He hasn't been happy all these years, but now I can see a smile on his face, all because of you."

"You've seen Leon?" Isabella asked, frowning.

As far as she knew, even though Zane had been sending people to persuade Leon to forgive him, Leon had been refusing to see him.

Zane showed a helpless smile. "He refuses to see me, so I can only watch him from a distance."

Hearing this, Isabella felt another pang of sadness.

"Please take good care of Leon for me. Thank you," Zane said, then turned and left.

It took Isabella a long time to recover after Zane left, pondering whether to tell Leon about today's events.

A few days later, one evening, Leon came home and saw Isabella leaning on the couch watching TV.

"Leon, you're back?" Isabella said happily, finally seeing him after work.

Leon smiled and walked over, sitting in front of Isabella and asking, "How are you feeling today?"

Isabella leaned into Leon's arms and pouted. "How can I feel good when I don't see you all day?"

Leon smiled and hugged Isabella's shoulders. "Didn't I cancel all my engagements to come back and be with you?"

Isabella smiled and playfully glared at Leon.

"Where's Kathy?" Leon looked around but didn't see Kathy.

"Kathy hasn't seen her son in a long time, so I gave her the day off today," Isabella replied.

Hearing this, Leon started rolling up his sleeves. "Then I'll cook tonight. What do you want to eat? Place your order!"

"I've been waiting to eat your cooking. I want steak, pasta, and cream of mushroom soup," Isabella said after thinking for a moment.

"No problem, dinner will be ready in forty-five minutes." Leon smiled and went into the kitchen.

Shortly after, Isabella walked into the kitchen holding her belly. Seeing Leon busy in front of the stove wearing an apron, she smiled and then went up to hug his waist from behind.
