Chapter 872 A Deep Confession
One afternoon, Susan was half-lying on the bed.
During this time, a servant brought various snacks and tea.
However, Susan was still bored. Although there were a few magazines on the table to pass the time, they were all topics she wasn't interested in.
Even though she could read the magazines, it really wasn't a good way to pass the time.
At this moment, Susan really wanted to pack her bags and leave this castle immediately. Although she liked the castle, she felt she had already disturbed the owner and made him unhappy.
But her foot was really uncooperative. Looking down at her swollen ankle, Susan couldn't help but worry. It looked like her foot would need at least a week to heal.
A week was really too long for her. Hugo's confession had already made her feel like she was on pins and needles.
In the evening, Susan heard a steady sound of footsteps.
Soon after, Hugo appeared in front of Susan with a large bouquet of purple tulips.
Seeing Hugo, Susan felt far less at ease than before and didn't know what to say.
Hugo hesitated for a moment, then placed the tulips into a porcelain vase on the table.
"I hope you like them." Hugo then placed the vase on the bedside table.
Looking at the blooming tulips in front of her, Susan smelled their rich fragrance and said, "Thank you."
Hugo stood in front of Susan's bed, looking at her for a long time before saying, "If I've caused you any trouble, please don't mind."
Hugo was really a gentleman; Susan could see the sincerity in his eyes.
She was just feeling guilty, thinking she should have noticed the signs earlier and left sooner. That way, things wouldn't be so awkward between them.
"Of course, I don't mind." Susan knew how forced her tone sounded even as she spoke.
Hugo smiled slightly, his hands a bit at a loss, so he put them in his pockets.
Just as the two didn't know how to continue the conversation, a maid walked in with a bottle of medicine.
The maid said something to Hugo, who then took the medicine from her hand, and the maid left.
At this point, Hugo smiled at the puzzled Susan and said, "It's time to apply medicine to your foot."
After saying that, Hugo turned and sat on the edge of the bed, reaching out to lift the blanket.
Susan immediately grabbed the blanket and said, "I can do it myself."
If he hadn't confessed to her, Susan might have generously let him apply the medicine, but now, it felt too ambiguous.
Seeing Susan's reserved manner, Hugo was momentarily stunned.
At this moment, Susan lowered her eyes, feeling that she had hurt Hugo. But she had no other choice; she had to keep her distance from him. The closer they got, the worse things would become.
Seeing Susan's insistence, Hugo stood up, placed the medicine on the table, and said, "I'll get the maid to come in and apply it for you."
"I..." Susan was about to say she could do it herself.
But Hugo had already walked out.
Watching Hugo's lonely back, Susan felt bad but was helpless.
For the next two days, Hugo didn't appear.
This avoided Susan's awkwardness, but Hugo's care for her only increased.
Every day, a servant would bring a fresh bouquet of tulips to her bedside. Her three meals were always plentiful, and the maid would come regularly to apply medicine to her ankle.
To keep Susan from feeling lonely, Hugo even found a few magazines she was interested in and had the maid bring them over.
Susan noticed that the magazines were quite old and wondered where he had found them, but she was deeply touched.
Hugo was truly a gentleman. If it were someone else, they would probably be trying their best to win her favor, or even take advantage of the situation.
But Hugo was particularly considerate of her feelings, not even showing his face, yet his care for her never diminished.
However, Susan couldn't entrust her heart to him. She felt very guilty towards him. Hugo was truly a rare and wonderful husband, and his future wife would surely be very happy.
On the morning of the third day, just after Susan had finished breakfast, she heard a steady sound of footsteps.
Hearing Hugo's footsteps, Susan's heart tightened.
Sure enough, Hugo elegantly appeared in front of Susan.
Susan saw that he was wearing a black and gray wool suit and a matching hat.
"Are you going out?" Susan asked with a frown.
Hugo smiled and said, "I'm going to the city to buy some groceries and daily necessities. I wanted to ask if you need anything, and I'll bring it back for you."
Hearing this, Susan lowered her eyes. She only wanted now was a ticket from Rainbow City to Northstar City, but she couldn't bring herself to say it.
"Susan, if you need anything, just tell me. I'll definitely get it for you," Hugo said sincerely, looking at Susan.
Hearing this, Susan looked up and smiled. "Hugo, I miss Hayden and Spring."
Susan hoped that by saying this, he would understand her feelings.
Hugo was stunned for a moment, then smiled and said, "I know you want to go back to Northstar City. I'll go to the city and book a flight ticket for you."
Hearing this, Susan was overjoyed. "Thank you, Hugo."
"You don't need to be polite with me. I'm willing to do anything for you," Hugo said, looking deeply at Susan.
Hugo's deep blue eyes made Susan very uneasy. She knew what he was thinking at this moment.
So, the next moment, Susan smiled and said, "Hugo, you are a very good man. You deserve someone better, someone who matches you."
"But in my heart, you are the best," Hugo said, a bit emotionally.
"Hugo, I'm a mother of two kids , and in my current situation.I don't want to start another relationship," Susan said, pouring out her heart.
"Of course, I know you have two kids. I can help you take care of them. I promise, I will treat them as my own. Look at this estate, it's a bit lonely. If there were two kids here, it would feel more like a home," Hugo said, looking at the beautiful scenery outside the window with a smile.
Following Hugo's gaze, Susan looked at the picturesque estate outside, feeling a bitterness that only she knew.
