Chapter 859 Heartache

When Susan heard this, she took a deep breath and said, "Ellie, I'm not here to fight. I'm just letting you know that I'm leaving Maple Valley and Seb. It's not because I'm scared of you. I know what you've done, and I even thought about exposing you to make Seb remember me. But I've changed my mind. You can mess with a lot of things, but not with feelings. Love is delicate. It needs to be cared for and nurtured if it is to last through time. Seb's got feelings for you now, and I don't want him to be sad. Treat him well and make him happy, okay?"

Ellie couldn't hide her excitement; her plan had worked.

"Don't worry, Susan," Ellie said, grinning. "I'll take good care of Seb. I'll love him and make him happy every day because I love him too, deeply, and for a long time. My love for Seb is just as strong as yours."

Susan's lips curled into a bittersweet smile.

"Alright then, goodbye." And with that, Susan hung up.

This was exactly what she wanted.

Her biggest wish was for Seb to be happy. Even though Ellie had played dirty, Susan could see she genuinely loved Seb, and Seb had accepted her love.

Susan knew she was the third wheel now, so it was time to step aside.

Later, sitting in a café, Susan told Leon, who was sitting across from her, about her decision.

Leon looked at her in shock. "Why the sudden change? Are you really gonna let Mr. Anderson and Ellie get married? What about you and your kids? Think it through. Once Mr. Anderson gets married, there's no turning back."

Susan, on the verge of tears, smiled. "I'm not hoping for him to turn back because if he does, he'll be sad too."

"What are you really thinking?" Leon asked, clearly worried.

Susan placed a glass of ice water in front of him, hoping to calm him down.

"I saw Seb and Ellie together, and they're really happy. Seb's fallen for Ellie, and I can't break them up even if I wanted to," Susan said, looking defeated.

Leon scoffed. "But Mr. Anderson looks at you differently. I can tell he's still attracted to you. So what if he's forgotten you? You can make him fall in love with you again!"

Leon's words hit Susan hard, making her pause.

She lowered her head and smiled bitterly. "Leon, I don't have that confidence anymore."

"Why? You've never been afraid of challenges. You're strong, just like Isabella," Leon said, frowning.

"No matter what I do, Seb might look at me a bit more, but that's it. Right now, he loves Ellie the most. He trusted her, doted on her, and felt it was his duty to take care of her. I can't change that," Susan said, tears streaming down her face.

Leon was left speechless.

"And when I see Seb and Ellie happy together, I realize that real love isn't about holding on but about wanting the other person to be happy. He's happy, so why should I mess that up? Besides, I can't even if I wanted to. It's better to let go and wish them well," Susan said, then downed a glass of ice water.

She hoped the cold water would cool her burning heart, helping her accept everything.

"But..." Leon started to say.

"Leon, don't try to talk me out of it. It was hard enough to make this decision," Susan interrupted.

Leon sighed, clearly frustrated but gave up.

Susan smiled at him. "After I leave, I hope you'll keep supporting Seb."

"Leave? Where are you going?" Leon asked, sounding worried.

Susan gave a faint smile. "I'm transferring the accounting firm to Dorothy. Once that's done, I'm heading to Northstar City to be with my kids and to support Isabella during her delivery."

Leon frowned. "Mr. Anderson planned to bring them back after summer, but with everything that's happened, I doubt he will now."

"Isn't that better? More time for me in Northstar City," Susan said, smiling.

"But you can't stay there forever. Are you thinking about immigrating?" Leon asked, concerned.

Susan looked out the window. "I don't know what the future holds. Right now, I just want to stop being sad. But don't worry, I'll take good care of Isabella and her baby."

"Thank you," Leon said sincerely.

Susan looked at him and asked, "But the baby is yours. What's your plan with Isabella? I haven't seen any woman around you lately."

Leon stayed silent, then pulled out a pack of cigarettes, took one out, and lit it. Remembering smoking wasn't allowed here, he put the pack back but kept the cigarette between his fingers.

Seeing his struggle, Susan frowned. "Leon, tell me the truth. Is something going on?"

Leon looked up. "Please take care of Isabella. I have to go."

He quickly stood up and left before Susan could say anything.

Watching him leave, Susan frowned.

She didn't understand why Leon was abandoning Isabella and their baby, but she could see he was struggling.

She used to think Leon had hooked up with a rich heiress, but now it seemed that wasn't the case.

Susan felt Leon must have some serious issues, but she didn't know what could make him abandon the people he loved.

Maybe everyone had their own struggles. Susan looked up and shook her head.
