Chapter 688 Changing Women Like Changing Clothes

Susan had anticipated that Isabella would steer the conversation towards her, so she hesitated for a moment before smiling and saying, "Nothing much."

Isabella was a bit agitated at this point. "Every time I ask you, you always respond like this. What does 'nothing much' even mean?"

"It's over between us, Isabella. There's nothing left except the kids. Are you happy now?" Susan had no choice but to respond to Isabella this way.

Hearing this, Isabella was silent for a moment.

Then she said, "If it's impossible, then let it be. You should start a new life. Seb isn't that great anyway. He's out there fooling around every day. If you get involved with him again, I'm really afraid you might catch some disease!"

Hearing this, Susan stared at Isabella in surprise.

Isabella had always encouraged her to reconcile with Seb because they had two kids, and Seb had always been good to her. But today, Isabella's sudden change in attitude made Susan suspicious.

"What do you mean by catching a disease? What are you talking about?" Susan questioned, staring at Isabella.

Isabella, feeling cornered, said, "Wait a moment."

After saying that, she turned and walked out of Susan's office.

Susan frowned, not knowing what Isabella was up to.

A minute later, Isabella returned with a few newspapers in her hand and threw them in front of Susan.

"See for yourself!" Isabella crossed her arms.

Puzzled, Susan glanced at Isabella before reaching for the newspapers and magazines.

As she flipped through them, Susan found that almost every magazine and newspaper had news about Seb. These tabloids were full of scandals, from extramarital affairs to family disputes and rumors about who was involved with whom. Although not entirely credible, they weren't baseless either.

The news about Seb was naturally about his affairs with women, and not just one woman. There was no mention of Esme; the female leads kept changing. Susan counted and found that Seb had been linked to three or four different women in just over a month.

It was impossible for Susan not to feel anything. It felt like a heavy stone was pressing on her chest, making it hard to breathe.

But the next moment, Susan still pretended to be calm. She tossed the magazines and newspapers aside and smiled, saying, "Did you collect all these newspapers?"

"Do you still have feelings for Seb? Is he still in your heart? I know you can't forget him that easily, right?" Isabella asked, ignoring Susan's question.

"Even if I do, it's something I have to deal with on my own. We have no future together, so I have to move on. Loving him will only hurt me more. Does that answer your question?" Susan knew that even if she said she no longer had feelings for Seb, Isabella wouldn't believe her.

Hearing this, Isabella nodded and said, "I know this is how you truly feel. These newspapers and magazines were deliberately picked out by the front desk from the daily deliveries to avoid upsetting you."

"Then why did you bring them to me today? Aren't you afraid I'll be sad?" Susan shook her head and smiled.

Her smile was bitter.

The photos of Seb with those women were so glaring that her heart ached, but she still pretended to be nonchalant and chatted with Isabella.

Isabella hesitated for a moment before suddenly saying, "Because I want you to start a new life. I can't stand to see you like this, living like a ghost. He's just like all those other rich men, treating women like disposable toys. Maybe he was pretending to be different when he was with you, or maybe you just held his attention for a while. But look at him now! Esme is yesterday's news. Today it's a model, tomorrow a movie star, the next day some socialite. Who wants to live like that, constantly looking over their shoulder? You need to cut him loose, Susan. For your own good. With his track record, you're liable to catch something nasty if you get close to him again. And then you'll really regret it."

Isabella's words were like needles piercing Susan's heart. Susan had thought that Seb only had Esme by his side, but she didn't expect that he had been with one woman after another recently.

He was always busy with work, with Hayden and Spring, with his weekly visits to her. Where did he find the time, the energy, for all these women?

Seeing Susan remain silent, Isabella, afraid she was hurt, quickly said, "You know I'm not good with words. Don't take it to heart."

The next moment, Susan forced a smile and said, "I've known you for years. I know you're doing this for my good. Don't worry, I'll consider what you said."

"Okay." Isabella nodded.

After Isabella left, Susan, exhausted, leaned back in her swivel chair, her eyes gazing at the blue sky and white clouds outside the floor-to-ceiling window.

Cut ties with Seb? It seemed that this was no longer within her control.

If it weren't for Hayden and Spring, she would have left this heart-wrenching city long ago.

But her children were her world, and they were the invisible chains that bound her to this painful situation. As for Seb, it seemed all she could do was wait for him to tire of her, to finally set her free.

Although Susan couldn't control her relationship with Seb, Isabella's words deeply affected her.

When no one was around, Susan carefully went through those tabloids and magazines several more times.

She didn't know why, but she just wanted to know which women he had been seeing recently and what they had been doing.

Through those tabloids and magazines, Susan saw that the women around Seb were all stunningly beautiful.

Seeing those beauties, Susan felt inferior and increasingly insecure. He could have any woman he wanted, so why was he still clinging to her?

That night, after taking a shower, Susan stood in front of the mirror at the sink, staring at her body for a long time.

In terms of looks, she was just above average, with a clean and pleasant appearance.

In terms of figure, she was well-proportioned, but nowhere near as good as the women currently around Seb.
