Chapter 77 Why Do You Never Understand My Heart

Upon hearing this, Seb's face darkened further, his gaze intense enough to devour.

Cynthia shot Carol a look.

Carol stepped up and asked, "Kathy, what's the deal between Henry and Susan?"

"It seems..." Kathy mumbled, looking down.

"Seems what? Spit it out," Carol pushed.

"Seems like Henry is Mrs. Anderson's ex," Kathy said vaguely.

Carol snapped, "Susan's behavior is totally out of line. She's married to you, how can she still mess around with her ex? Seb, I've always said a girl like Susan is just after our family's status, not real love."

"Mom, please, enough," Seb said, rubbing his temples in frustration.

But Carol wouldn't stop. "I think once the baby is born, you should give her some money and let her go. Our family can't afford this kind of scandal. You're a man of status. You can't have a wife like Susan!"

"Carol, enough. Seb can make his own decisions," Cynthia chimed in, pretending to calm Carol down.

Carol shook her head. "I can't deal with this anymore. I'm tired, I'm going back!" And with that, she stormed out of the hospital.

After Carol left, Cynthia noticed Seb's grim face and said, "Seb, you've been running around all day. How about I get you something to eat?"

Seb wasn't having it. "Don't think I don't know what you're up to. Even if I divorce Susan, I won't marry you."

Cynthia's eyes welled up. "Seb, I never expected you to marry me. Just let me stay by your side. I just want to see you every day."

Her words only annoyed Seb more, but his expression softened a bit. "You should go back and rest."

"Let me stay here with you," Cynthia insisted.

"I told you to go back!" Seb finally snapped.

Seeing his anger, Cynthia quickly said, "Okay, I'll go. Please take care of yourself."

"I know," Seb muttered, turning away.

Cynthia left, glancing back with every step.

In the cold corridor, only Kathy and Seb remained.

Seb's gaze bore into Kathy, making her even more nervous.

"Has she always been in contact with Henry?" Seb finally asked, breaking the silence.

"I don't know," Kathy stammered.

"You've been with her all this time, and you don't know?" Seb's eyes were fierce.

Kathy looked down to avoid his gaze and cautiously said, "Definitely not in the past few months. Before that, I don't know. But I did see Mrs. Anderson sneaking to the balcony to make calls when you weren't home."

Seb's face darkened even more, his fists clenched so tight his knuckles cracked, scaring Kathy into trembling in the corner.

On the delivery bed, Susan was breathing oxygen, her eyes dazed as she watched the doctors and nurses bustling around. She still had a bit of consciousness, constantly praying in her heart for her child to be born safely.

Susan felt like she had slept for a long, long time, her whole body exhausted.

Struggling to move, Susan felt completely powerless, and a sudden fear surged in her heart until she opened her eyes.

"Mrs. Anderson, you're awake?"

Kathy's voice came to her ears, and Susan saw Kathy's face clearly. Then, all she saw was white.

Surrounded by white walls, a white ceiling, and white bedding, it was no surprise her hand throbbed with pain—she was still in treatment.

She turned her head and saw a familiar black silhouette standing by the window. It was Seb.

Seeing him, Susan's heart tightened inexplicably.

Hearing Kathy's words, Seb slowly turned around, his gaze coldly fixed on Susan lying in the hospital bed.

Susan didn't have the mood to pay attention to his gaze. Her mind immediately thought of her child. She reached out to touch her belly, but the bulge was gone.

"How's the baby?" she screamed.

Kathy looked at Seb, hesitating to speak.

Seeing Kathy not speaking, Susan immediately turned to ask Seb, "Where's our baby?"

Seb took two steps forward, his face expressionless as he replied, "The baby died right after birth."

Hearing this, Susan's mind went blank. She stared at Seb with wide eyes, and two seconds later, she shook her head frantically. "No, that's impossible!"

"Mrs. Anderson, calm down!" Kathy quickly held down Susan, who was struggling to get out of bed.

Susan couldn't calm down. The child she had carried for nine months had left her without a sound. She couldn't accept this reality.

"I want to see my baby!" Susan used all her strength to pull out the needle from her hand. In an instant, blood splattered everywhere, staining the pristine white sheets.

Although Susan was very weak, the pain of losing her child drove her mad, and Kathy couldn't hold her down.

Seeing this, Seb stepped forward and grabbed Susan's shoulders, frowning. "Your baby is gone. Nothing you do will change that!"

"No, this isn't true, it isn't true," Susan muttered, collapsing on the bed.

"Mrs. Anderson," Kathy pressed her fingers on Susan's hand, which was bleeding from the needle wound, staining her hospital gown red.

Seeing Susan's heartbroken appearance, Seb said, "I'll go get the doctor." With that, he left the room.

At this moment, Susan was in a daze. After a long while, she finally burst into tears. Her baby was gone!

Soon, the doctor came and gave Susan a sedative. She fell asleep shortly after.

The wardwas even quieter at night, and every footstep outside could be heard clearly.

Seb sat by the bed, frowning as he looked at the sleeping Susan. His eyes were filled with a complex mix of love, pity, pain, and sorrow.

"Kathy, you should go rest," Seb said, looking at Susan.

"Mr. Anderson, you should go back," Kathy said worriedly.

"Come replace me in the morning," he said, then fell silent.

Knowing Seb's personality, Kathy took her things and left the room.

After Kathy left, Seb reached out and held Susan's hand, frowning, and murmured, "Why do you never understand my heart?"
