Chapter 345 Drunk
Kathy had all the basics ready for Susan—like toothpaste, toothbrush, and a towel—but no PJs, undies, or fresh clothes.
After Susan finished her bath, she noticed Seb still hadn't shown up. So, she had to dig through his closet and grab one of his less-used shirts to sleep in. Then she washed all her underwear and clothes so she'd have something to wear the next day.
After tucking Spring in, Hayden clung to Susan, begging her to come to his room and tell him a story.
But tonight, no matter how many stories Susan spun, Hayden just wasn't getting sleepy.
Finally, Susan glanced at the clock on the wall—it was almost eleven. She looked at Hayden, feeling a bit desperate, and asked, "Hayden, why aren't you sleepy yet?"
Her mouth was dry from all the talking, and she couldn't figure out how Hayden's big round eyes were still so full of energy.
Out of nowhere, Hayden snuggled into Susan's arms, hugging her waist and saying, "Mommy, I'm just too excited today. Having you tell stories at night, and in my room, is just awesome!"
Hearing this, Susan felt happy, but also a deep sense of sadness.
She stroked Hayden's head, thinking, 'I owe Hayden so much. When he needed me the most, I wasn't there for him.' The thought made Susan feel especially guilty.
"Hayden, be good. I'll tell you bedtime stories often from now on, okay?" Susan said, looking at Hayden.
Hearing this, Hayden got super excited and asked, "Really?"
"Of course. I wouldn't lie to you." Susan nodded firmly, also vowing in her heart to make it up to Hayden in the future.
"Mommy, I love you!" Hayden hugged Susan's waist tightly.
At this moment, Susan stroked Hayden's head and said, "But now you have to go to sleep right away so you'll have energy for preschool tomorrow, okay?"
"Okay." Hayden nodded heavily, then obediently lay back on his pillow and closed his eyes.
It only took a few minutes before Hayden's breathing became steady. When Susan looked down, she saw that under the dim nightlight, Hayden had already fallen asleep.
Seeing how well-behaved Hayden was, Susan's eyes got a bit misty. Ever since Hayden recognized her, he had been especially clingy and obedient. Susan knew Hayden really needed motherly love.
After covering Hayden with a light blanket and kissing his little face, Susan turned off the nightlight and quietly stepped out of Hayden's bedroom.
As Susan went out and was about to close the door, a hand suddenly grabbed hers on the doorknob, making her gasp.
"Don't be afraid; it's me!" came a familiar voice.
Susan turned around and saw a stern face under the dim living room light.
Seeing it was Seb, Susan couldn't help but pat her chest. "You scared me to death!"
"Is Hayden asleep?" Seb glanced through the door crack, seeing it was pitch black inside.
"Yeah." Susan nodded and closed the door.
"Let me check on Hayden," Seb said, trying to push the door open.
Susan grabbed his arm. "I finally managed to make him fall asleep, and he’s got preschool tomorrow. Don’t wake him up!"
Seb nodded, giving up on the idea.
Susan realized she was still holding his arm and quickly let go, catching a whiff of strong alcohol. She frowned. "Why'd you drink so much?"
"Had a social event," Seb mumbled, clearly a bit tipsy, his eyes unfocused.
Seb's gaze darkened as he stared at Susan. Her long hair was draped over her shoulders, and she was wearing one of his white shirts, with a couple of buttons undone, showing a hint of skin. The shirt was big, but it still showed off her long legs.
Seeing Seb's gaze, Susan blushed. "It's late. I'm going to bed now!" she said quickly, turning to head up the stairs.
As she went upstairs, she held down the hem of the shirt, feeling awkward, like she wasn’t wearing anything at all. But what choice did she have? She couldn’t find any pajamas, so she had to borrow one of Seb’s shirts. It felt a bit... suggestive.
She thought she wouldn’t run into Seb, out of her expectation, he had to show up.
Susan quickly entered her bedroom and was about to close the door when a hand suddenly pressed against it.
Seb had followed her. "It's late. You should go to bed too!" she said, her heart racing. She had a bad feeling about tonight.
Seb glanced at the shirt she was wearing and smiled drunkenly. "If you borrow my clothes, you should at least tell me, right?"
Susan thought he was being petty. It was just an old shirt. Did he have to be so serious about it? Even rich people could be so stingy.
"I'll buy pajamas tomorrow and wash this shirt to return it to you," she said, trying to close the door.
"I want it back tonight!" Seb stepped in.
Susan couldn’t push him out. She took a couple of steps back, annoyed. "Seb, you’re drunk. Stop being crazy, okay?"
"I’m not being crazy. You wore my clothes without asking. Now I want them back. Is that unreasonable?" Seb, with drunken eyes, stepped closer.
Susan had no choice but to retreat, her heart pounding. She tried to stay calm and retorted, "If you leave now, I’ll throw your old shirt out right away!"
Her foot hit the bed leg, and she stumbled, sitting on the bed behind her.
Seb, with an ambiguous smile, pressed her down on the soft bed!
The sudden weight made Susan struggle desperately. "Seb, what are you doing?" she shouted in fear.
"What do you think I’m doing?" Seb frowned, looking down at her.
Seb’s body was too large. Her legs were pinned down, and her wrists were held by his big hands. She couldn’t move at all.
