Chapter 61 Tears

Stepping out of the coffee shop, Susan, usually so strong, couldn't hold back her tears.

She tried looking up at the sky again, but it didn't help. Her tears just kept coming.

Cynthia might look delicate, but she was ruthless. From the start, Susan never stood a chance.

Susan wandered aimlessly under the scorching sun, soon drenched in sweat, but all she felt was the unbearable pain in her chest.

It hit her then—she'd fallen for Seb a long time ago. She didn't want to admit it, but the heartache made it impossible to lie to herself.

This hurt even more than when Andrew, her boyfriend of several years, left her for a rich girl a few months back.

But this love was doomed from the start. She was just a tool for childbirth. Once everything settled, she and Seb were destined to be strangers.

Susan was in agony until her skin got sunburned. Luckily, Isabella called her just then.

Hearing Susan's sobs, Isabella was shocked. She rushed over immediately because, in all their years of friendship, she'd never seen Susan cry. Something major must have happened.

When Isabella arrived, she saw Susan's tear-streaked face for the first time. Shocked, she quickly took Susan to a nearby hotel because Susan didn't want Kathy to see her like this.

While applying after-sun lotion to Susan, Isabella complained, "Look at you, how did you end up like this? What happened? Did Seb bully you? Tell me, and I'll go settle the score with him!"

By now, Susan had already wiped away her tears. Her strong character over the years prevented her from wallowing in tears. She had just lost control of her emotions for a moment.

"Can't blame him either, maybe this time I was just too foolish," Susan replied, her eyes empty.

"What exactly happened?" Isabella pressed.

Susan then recounted everything that had just happened to Isabella.

Upon hearing it, Isabella was furious. "Who does this Cynthia think she is? You and Seb are legally married now. At best, she's just a mistress. How dare she come directly to you? You should have slapped her!"

"You didn't see her. She's incredibly beautiful, with an air of elegance. She and Seb grew up together, she's the one he truly loves," Susan said with a bitter smile.

"So what? You're Mrs. Anderson now," Isabella said.

"The title of Mrs. Anderson is just to give the baby in my belly a legitimate status. Do you think Seb will let me remain Mrs. Anderson after I give birth?" Susan retorted.

Isabella was momentarily speechless and sat down beside her.

At this moment, Susan thought to herself, 'Instead of waiting to divorce after giving birth, it might be better to cut ties now. At least this way, I'll be divorcing during the pregnancy, and the child will already have a legitimate status.'

Thinking about having to live with Seb for another five months made Susan feel suffocated. She feared that in five months, she would be even more reluctant to leave him and even more heartbroken.

"So what are you going to do? Are you planning to divorce Seb now? That would just benefit Cynthia," Isabella exclaimed.

Susan just curled her lips. "Maybe I'm the one messing up their lives."

"Well, if he doesn't love you, no point dragging it out. But if you do get a divorce, you gotta fight for your and the kid's rights. Ask for more money, or you might struggle to support yourself and the baby," Isabella advised, always looking out for Susan.

Susan didn't respond. All she felt was the pain in her heart.

Isabella stayed with her until nightfall. When Susan returned to the Anderson family, the city lights were already on.

Seeing Susan return, Kathy hurried over. "Mrs. Anderson, you're finally back. Where have you been all day? I called you dozens of times, but you didn't answer. I was worried sick!"

"Oh, I went shopping with a friend, and my phone died," Susan casually replied.

"By the way, Mr. Anderson called this afternoon," Kathy suddenly said as Susan was heading upstairs.

Susan paused but didn't turn around. "What did he say?"

"He just asked if you were home, where you went, and told me to take good care of you. Mrs. Anderson, you're really lucky. Mr. Anderson may seem cold on the outside, but he's warm inside!" Kathy said with a smile.

Hearing this, Susan couldn't help but curl her lips in a cold smile, thinking, 'Seb must be concerned about the baby in my belly, right?'

"I'm tired. I'm going upstairs to rest," Susan said and went upstairs.

Just as she was about to enter the bedroom, Susan's eyes caught sight of the study next door. She paused for a moment, then walked towards the study.

Entering the study, Susan looked around and began rummaging through the bookshelves, drawers, and display shelves. If Cynthia was truly important to Seb, there would be some trace left behind.

After some random searching, Susan suddenly found a photo in a book.

Her hand froze for a moment before she reached out to pick up the photo. The background was a vast blue sea and white clouds, with a young girl spreading her arms, her short hair full of youthful energy, and a bright, radiant smile. Her features bore a striking resemblance to Susan.

Susan's hand trembled, and the photo slipped from her fingers to the floor. She collapsed into a chair in despair.

On the back of the photo, there was a line of words: [22nd birthday, forever love, Seb.]

Cynthia's words were true. She and Seb had a deep, unforgettable love, and it had never ended. The girlfriend Seb couldn't let go of was Cynthia.

And she, Susan, was just an accident in Seb's life. Seb only wanted to give the child in her belly a legitimate status. Their marriage had never been about love; this was an undeniable fact.

Susan slowly stood up and walked to the window. She gazed at the city lights outside, a final tear rolling down her cheek as she made a firm decision.

Since Seb had never belonged to her and never would, she might as well give up on him now. If she got used to having him in her life, she feared she would be even more heartbroken.

This love might not be something she could immediately let go of, but she would bury it deep in her heart. Speaking of it would only be a joke and cause unnecessary trouble.
