Chapter 17
The next day at 9:30 AM, Prosperity Group had its first staff meeting since moving to Maple Valley.
Even though it was just the folks from the branch office and some from headquarters, the big conference room was packed with at least two to three hundred people. The stage was decked out with flowers and nameplates for the execs, showing they meant business.
Susan and Isabella sat towards the back, while Amelia snagged a front-row seat. Amelia loved being in the spotlight and was probably scoping out who she could cozy up to.
"Please welcome Mr. Anderson, the President of Prosperity Group, along with the Vice President and other executives to take their seats!" The host's announcement was met with thunderous applause.
"Is that Mr. Anderson? He's so young and handsome!" whispered one of the women behind Susan.
"Don't you know? Mr. Anderson is every single woman's dream guy at Prosperity Group," another chimed in.
"Married women can dream too, right?" added a few more from headquarters.
Susan rolled her eyes. She glanced around at the women, all starry-eyed and glued to the stage, not wanting to miss a single move from Seb.
'Great, Seb's got all the women swooning. He must be a real playboy,' Susan thought.
"Everyone, today is our first full staff meeting since relocating to Maple Valley. First, I'd like to welcome the retained personnel from the original Maple Valley branch," a familiar voice boomed from the stage.
Susan's blood ran cold. 'Why does that voice sound so familiar?' she wondered.
She looked up and was stunned. 'No way. That male escort? He's the President of Prosperity Group, Seb, the guy all the women are drooling over?' Susan was in shock.
She quickly lowered her head. No way could Seb find out she worked here. If he did, she might get fired, or worse, he might force her to have an abortion. She couldn't lose her job or her baby.
Susan thought about sneaking out but figured that would draw more attention. With so many people in the room, Seb probably wouldn't notice her.
She quickly covered half her face with her hair.
After the meeting, the women in the office couldn't stop gushing about Seb's looks, charm, and eloquence.
Susan sat at her desk, still reeling from the shock.
Isabella leaned over and whispered, "I saw Amelia eyeing Mr. Anderson the whole time. Looks like she's got her sights set on him."
"She might have a shot," Susan muttered, thinking Seb was probably a player who went out looking for women every day.
"Mr. Anderson with her? No way. Even if she threw herself at him, he wouldn't want her," Isabella scoffed.
"Men never say no. Anyway, let's get back to work. That meeting took two hours, and we've got a lot to catch up on," Susan said, diving into her work.
Isabella nodded and got back to it too.
That afternoon, they were so swamped they skipped lunch.
At one o'clock, Isabella stretched and said, "Susan, you keep working. I'll grab us something to eat. Can't have you starving."
"Okay," Susan replied without looking up.
Not long after Isabella left, the office phone rang. Everyone else was out for lunch or on a break, leaving Susan alone.
She picked up the phone, and her face went pale when she heard the voice on the other end.
"Is this Susan?" It was a man's voice.
"Yes, it is," Susan answered.
"This is Leon, Mr. Anderson's special assistant. Mr. Anderson wants you in the president's office immediately!" Leon said and then hung up.
Susan didn't even have time to respond.
