Chapter 62 Indifference

The phone on the desk buzzed.

Susan turned, grabbed it, and saw a WhatsApp message from Seb.

Just seeing his profile picture—a simple landscape painting—made her heart skip a beat.

Seb: [Where have you been today? I called Kathy, and she said you weren't home. I've been really busy lately, so I haven't been in touch. Are you okay?]

Susan's lips twitched at his concern. She typed back: [I had an appointment with Isabella this afternoon. I'm fine, don't worry.]

She was about to put the phone down and ignore him, but it buzzed again.

Another message from Seb: [Don't overwork yourself. Take care of your health. I have something to tell you when I get back.]

Susan froze.

'Is he going to tell me he and Cynthia are back together and he wants a divorce? Maybe even offer better terms than our original agreement?'

She thought he wouldn't bring it up until after she gave birth in five months. Guess she overestimated her place in his heart. He loved Cynthia too much to wait.

Even though she had decided to end the marriage, hearing it from Seb still hurt.

Taking a deep breath, she quickly typed a reply.

[Alright. I also have something to tell you.]

Better to get her words in first than let him humiliate her.

[What is it?] Seb replied instantly.

[I'll tell you when you get back.] she sent.

[Okay.] He even added a smiley face.

It was the first time he had sent her an emoji. She stared at it for a long time before replying.

[I'm a bit tired today. I'm going to rest for a while.]

Her message was clear; she didn't want to keep chatting.

A little later, the phone buzzed again. She knew it was Seb sending a "Got it" message, so she didn't bother to check.

She bent down, picked up the glaring photo, put it back in the book, and returned the book to its place.

For the next few days, she avoided the study.

The next day, Dorothy called.

"Susan, I got straight A's this semester!" Dorothy's voice was full of excitement.

"Really? That's awesome!" Susan said, thrilled.

"And I got a thousand-dollar scholarship," Dorothy shouted.

"Dorothy, you're amazing!" Susan was overjoyed. She hadn't expected Dorothy to do so well.

"Susan, I've decided. I want to change my major to accounting," Dorothy said.

Susan thought for a moment and nodded. "That's a good idea. I know you haven't been happy with your current major. It's hard to excel in something you don't care about. Plus, accounting has great job prospects."

"By the way, didn't Mom introduce you to Professor Henry from Southern University? I heard he's in the accounting department. Can you ask him if it's easy to transfer to the accounting program there this year? I heard you need connections because it's a popular major now. Maybe Henry can help me out!" Dorothy chattered.

Susan felt a bit troubled. "I haven't been in touch with him for a long time."

Since the last time Seb grabbed her phone, claimed she was married to him, and deleted Henry's number, she hadn't seen or heard from Henry.

She still felt a bit guilty for not explaining to Henry, but they were just friends, and she thought explaining might be unnecessary, so she let it go.

Now that Dorothy wanted to apply for Henry's program, it seemed awkward to suddenly contact him. Susan felt conflicted.

Sensing her hesitation, Dorothy pleaded, "Susan, this is about my future. Please ask him for me!"

Susan knew that if the application wasn't done well, it could jeopardize everything Dorothy had worked for. This was about Dorothy's entire future.

Even though she felt embarrassed to ask Henry, she agreed. "Alright, I'll go find him tomorrow."

"Not tomorrow, today! If I don't transfer now, I won't have another chance," Dorothy urged.

"Okay, today," Susan agreed and hung up.

Feeling down but knowing she couldn't joke about Dorothy's future, she changed her clothes and headed straight to Southern University, where Henry taught.

Without Henry's phone number, she asked around the accounting department and finally found him in class.

Through the window on the door, she saw Henry teaching and stood in a corner, not daring to disturb him.

After more than an hour, Henry finally came out. Susan quickly stood up, and Henry noticed her.

Seeing Susan, Henry's eyes showed surprise and curiosity. Susan smiled slightly as he walked up to her.

"Are you here to see me?" Henry seemed a bit unsure.

"Yes," Susan nodded. "I need a favor. Do you have time to walk with me?"

"Of course," Henry nodded.

They walked side by side on the Southern University campus.

Henry, elegant and handsome, knowledgeable and humorous, was the dream man of many female students at Southern University.

As they walked together, they attracted many envious and jealous glances from the female students.

"Sorry about last time. Seb was too impulsive. Don't blame him," Susan said after a long pause.

Henry shrugged and smiled. "I didn't expect you to get married so quickly. It was a surprise to me."

"Not just you, it was a surprise to me too," Susan smiled helplessly.

"What do you mean? Was it a whirlwind marriage?" Henry paused and looked at Susan with confusion.
