Chapter 1228 Forcing
After hearing Marcella's words, Cecilia threw herself into her intense work. This was the only way she could prove Seraphine's innocence.
That afternoon, a colleague suddenly walked into the office and said to Cecilia, "Cecilia, someone is here to see you."
Cecilia was taken aback because she hadn't scheduled any meetings with writers or clients that day.
"Okay." Cecilia smiled, put down the manuscript, and got up to leave the office.
As soon as Cecilia walked into the hallway, she saw the back of a middle-aged woman.
"Excuse me, are you looking for me?" Cecilia asked, looking at the middle-aged woman's back.
The middle-aged woman turned around, and Cecilia was stunned!
The woman was dressed very elegantly in high-end, sophisticated clothes. She was adorned with luxurious jewelry on her ears and chest. The bag on her wrist was a world-renowned brand worth a fortune.
Seeing her appear in front of her, Cecilia was completely dumbfounded, opening her mouth but not knowing what to say.
Although Cecilia had not formally met Daryl's mother, she had seen her once at the airport a few days ago. Her outstanding temperament and aura of wealth made her easily recognizable.
"Are you Mrs. Fields?" Cecilia stammered.
Cecilia's mind was racing. Why would Daryl's mother suddenly come to her workplace? This didn't make sense.
However, Azalea wouldn't give her much time to think.
Azalea smiled and said, "Since you know I'm Daryl's mother, I don't need to introduce myself. I want to discuss something with you. I saw a nice café downstairs. I'll wait for you there."
Although Azalea's face carried a smile, Cecilia felt that her smile was more about confidence and arrogance. Her tone was commanding, as if Cecilia had no choice but to go downstairs and talk to her.
"Okay, I'll just wrap up my work and come down," Cecilia stammered.
Cecilia was very anxious at this moment. She had met Azalea without any preparation.
Azalea nodded and turned to leave.
Watching Azalea's back, Cecilia was momentarily stunned.
Cecilia hurried back to the office, gave a few instructions, grabbed her bag, and quickly left the office. After all, it wouldn't be good to keep Daryl's mother waiting too long.
In the elevator, Cecilia took out her phone, wanting to call Daryl to ask if he knew his mother was coming to see her.
But then she thought, judging by Azalea's demeanor, she probably hadn't told Daryl. Calling him would seem like tattling, so she hesitated and put her phone away.
When she walked into the café, Cecilia adjusted her ponytail and straightened her suit before nervously walking in.
As soon as she entered the café, Cecilia saw Azalea sitting in a very prominent window seat.
"Mrs. Fields, sorry to keep you waiting," Cecilia said politely after sitting down.
Azalea took a small sip of coffee, then looked up and smiled, "I didn't know what you like to drink, so I didn't order for you."
Cecilia felt that Azalea's smile seemed much kinder than it had been upstairs, and she finally breathed a sigh of relief. She thought that maybe Daryl's mother just wanted to get to know her since she was dating her son.
A waiter came over and smiled, "Miss, what would you like to drink?"
"I'll have a cup of Blue Mountain coffee, thank you," Cecilia said with a smile.
Isn't it said that middle-aged women like cheerful girls? Cheerful girls are likable, so Cecilia kept a smile on her face.
"Please wait a moment," the waiter nodded and left.
Azalea said, "You girls with a bit of money all like to drink Blue Mountain or lattes. Everyone in our family drinks Sylvanor's civet coffee."
Cecilia looked up at Azalea. What? Civet coffee? She had never heard of such coffee.
Azalea continued, "I have some impression of you. You once interviewed Skylar, right? You even made her sick with anger. You had your eyes on Daryl back then, didn't you?"
Cecilia's heart tightened!
Looking at Azalea's serious expression, her intuition told her that Azalea was not here with good intentions.
"About that time..." Cecilia was about to explain.
But Azalea interrupted, "Miss Thorne, I heard you dated the son of your magazine's editor-in-chief, Seraphine, is that true?"
Cecilia's scalp tingled!
Even this she knew. It seemed she had come prepared. Cecilia's heart sank, knowing that Azalea's next words would be even harsher.
"Yes," Cecilia nodded.
After all, it was true that she had dated Barry. There was nothing to hide. Besides, if Azalea already had a negative view of her, any explanation would be useless.
Azalea's lips curled into a smile, but it felt exceptionally cold.
"You broke up with Seraphine's son and immediately hooked up with my son. Isn't that a bit too quick?" Azalea's tone was full of contempt.
Cecilia couldn't take it anymore, but since she was Daryl's mother, she had to give her some respect.
Cecilia suppressed her anger and said, "Mrs. Fields, if you have something to say, just say it."
Seeing Cecilia's tone stiffen, Azalea became even colder, "Then I'll be direct."
"Mrs. Fields, I'm all ears!" Cecilia looked up at Azalea.
Cecilia now understood very well that with Azalea's attitude towards her, she would never accept her as Daryl's lover.
Azalea took out a piece of paper from her handbag and placed it in front of Cecilia with her diamond-ringed hand.
Cecilia looked down and saw a check in front of her.
"This is a check for $300,000. Take it," Azalea said with a smile.
Staring at the check, Cecilia felt her face twitch.
Cecilia looked up, met Azalea's smiling face, and asked, "Mrs. Fields, I don't understand what you mean by this?"
