Chapter 216 Attentive Care

Seeing pale and weak Susan, Seb frowned. He wanted to go to her, but a voice in his head said, "Hayden's still not out of the woods. Now's not the time. Plus, Susan's too fragile for more stress."

George gently helped Susan to the big glass window of the neonatal ICU. Pointing to a baby in pink blankets, he smiled. "There she is!"

Susan saw the tiny baby with a pink face and long eyelashes. If she weren't so thin, she'd be even more beautiful.

Susan reached out to touch the glass, as if she could feel her daughter's face. Her eyes were full of emotion.

Last time she gave birth, she didn't even get to see her son before the doctor said he had died. She still couldn't get over it.

Seeing her daughter now, Susan thought of her lost child, and tears filled her eyes.

George, confused, quickly comforted her, "You should be happy to see your daughter. Why are you crying?"

He pulled out a pack of tissues and handed one to Susan.

Susan took the tissue and said, "Thanks."

George thought she was worried about her daughter's health, so he quickly explained, "The doctor said she's premature but doing well. She can go home with you in about two weeks!"

"Really? You're not lying, are you?" Susan looked at George, afraid he was just trying to comfort her.

"When have I ever lied to you? If I'm lying, you can take my head off and use it as a soccer ball, okay?" George joked, gesturing to his neck.

"Your head's too big; I can't kick it." Susan smiled and even made a joke.

Seeing her smile, George laughed too.

Seb, watching from the corner, felt lost. Their laughter was loud and clear to him.

After a while, George asked, "She doesn't have a name yet. Why don't you give her one?"

Susan realized she hadn't thought of a name. After a moment, she said, "She was born in Spring, so let's call her Spring!"

George called out, "Spring, not bad. Great name!"

He turned to the glass and smiled at Spring. "Spring, you have a name now. Your mom named you Spring. Remember it!"

"She can't hear you!" Susan laughed and gave George a playful push.

Perhaps she exerted a bit too much force, as she winced in pain, clutching her stomach."What's wrong?" George asked, alarmed, quickly stepping forward to support her.

Seeing this, Seb took a step forward, wanting to help Susan. But he knew rushing over would only upset her more.

He watched as George fussed over Susan, his heart aching and his brows furrowing deeper.

"My wound hurts so much!" Susan's lips trembled with pain.

George quickly scooped her up and headed back to the ward. "It must have pulled on the wound. I'll get the doctor right away!"

"Okay." Susan nodded, lying in George's arms.

George had become her rock. She felt both guilty and grateful for his care but had no choice but to rely on him.

Seb stepped out of the corner, watching George carry Susan away, feeling desolate and ashamed.

Back in the ward, George immediately called for the doctor.

After examining Susan, the doctor said, "The wound has reopened and is infected. We need to clean it."

George anxiously asked, "Infection? Is it serious?"

"Infections can vary. I'll have the nurse prepare for the cleaning," the doctor said before leaving.

Hearing her wound was infected, Susan was scared and in a lot of pain.

George took her hand and gently comforted her, "Infections happen sometimes. Don't worry. It's a minor procedure, and antibiotics will take care of it."

Susan knew he was trying to comfort her. She understood it probably wasn't too serious, but as a new mom, all her thoughts were on Spring. She couldn't bear to think about the worst.

Suddenly, Susan grabbed George's hand, looking at him with pleading eyes. "George, I know I owe you a lot, but I have no choice. I have to entrust Spring to you. Please take care of her if something happens to me..."

George immediately interrupted her, "You'll be fine. It's just a minor procedure. Don't think negatively. Spring is waiting for you. You have to be strong!"

"Okay." Susan nodded tearfully. Then a thought struck her. She held George's hand and said, "George, can you make me a promise?"

"Just spit it out. I could promise you a million things if you asked," George said, holding her hand with a smile.

"Can you be Spring's godfather?" Susan looked at him with urgent eyes.

"Godfather?" George was taken aback.

"I know I'm being selfish. There's no one else in my family who can take care of her. I..." Susan began to explain.

However, George interrupted, "I'd be honored. Spring is so adorable. If she were my own daughter, I'd be thrilled. Being her godfather is more than enough for me!"

Hearing his agreement, Susan nodded gratefully. "George, thank you."
