Chapter 128 Mixed Emotions

Bloodstains on the floor caught Susan's eye, and she frowned, recalling Seb walking over glass shards in his shoes.

Could the blood be from Seb's foot? The thought made her gasp.

After a moment of shock, Susan bolted for the door.

She ran to the inpatient building entrance but didn't find Seb. Disappointed, she wandered the hallway.

Back in her room, doctors and nurses checked on her and congratulated her on regaining her hearing.

Susan figured Seb must've told them. Despite his anger, he still cared.

Later, a nurse took her for a full-body check-up. By the time it finished, it was afternoon.

The sky outside was beautiful. Susan sat by the bed, feeling mixed emotions.

Would Seb come tonight?

Probably not. He was so angry when he left.

Lost in thought, she heard the door open. She quickly turned.

Seeing who entered, she was disappointed.

It was Leon, and he closed the door, indicating Seb wasn't behind him.

"Ms. Wilson?" Leon smiled as he approached.

Susan glanced at him and asked, "What did he send you for?"

Leon handed her a white box. "This is the latest model phone. Mr. Anderson asked me to bring it to you."

Susan looked at the box for a moment before taking it.

Her phone had been smashed by Seb a few days ago. It was thoughtful of him to send a new one.

Her eyes welled up. Not many people had cared for her like this.

"Did he say anything else?" she hesitated before asking.

"No," Leon replied, then quickly added, "Oh, right, Mr. Anderson asked me to talk to the doctors about your test results."

"Oh." With her hearing back, there was no need to stay here.

Leon continued, "I spoke with your doctor. The results will be out tomorrow, but you should be fine."

"When can I be discharged?" Susan didn't want to stay any longer; it felt like Seb's presence was everywhere.

"The doctor said if the results are fine, you can leave after one more day of observation," Leon answered.

"Thank you," Susan said, rubbing the box.

"It's my duty. Ms. Wilson, if you don't need anything else, I'll take my leave," Leon inquired.

"How is his foot?" Susan suddenly remembered Seb's injury and asked urgently.

Leon frowned. "Foot? What happened to Mr. Anderson's foot?"

Realizing Leon didn't know, Susan said, "Nothing, you can go now."

"Goodbye," Leon said, puzzled.

"Goodbye," Susan replied, not looking up.

Leon left, closing the door behind him.

Susan opened the package and took out a sleek, white phone. She inserted her SIM card and turned it on.

Staring at the screen, she thought about calling Seb but hesitated, unsure of what to say.

She wished her hearing hadn't returned. If it hadn't, Seb might still be there, keeping her company.

After a while, she sent Seb a text: [Is your foot okay?]

But he didn't reply all night.

The next morning, her eyes were swollen from lack of sleep.

She realized Seb probably wouldn't respond.

Maybe it was for the best. Parting ways might be better.

But Seb's angry words echoed in her ears. He said he was worried sick and even skipped the Prosperity Group's signing ceremony to stay with her. Did he love her? If so, why hadn't he said anything? And what about Cynthia?

Thinking about it made her feel suffocated. She told herself to stop thinking about it; maybe ending it would free her from constant worry.

With this belief, she was soon discharged from the hospital.

As expected, Seb didn't come to pick her up, but he sent Leon.

This time, Susan remained calm and didn't ask about Seb.

She accepted the phone Seb sent. It was a high-end model, much better than her old ones. She had never experienced such quality before.

Seb had smashed her phone, so he owed her a new one. Though this compensation seemed excessive.

Back home, Susan spent half a day cleaning.

Exhausted, she was about to rest when the doorbell rang urgently.

In her old clothes and makeshift headscarf, she felt embarrassed but thought it was probably just Isabella or the landlord. She opened the door.

She was stunned.

Seb stood there in a black trench coat and sunglasses. Unable to see his eyes, she felt awkward and quickly removed her headscarf.

"I'm here to talk about George and Vivian's compensation to you," Seb said preemptively.

Susan snapped back to reality and stepped aside. "Come in!"

Seb walked in, and Susan pointed to the sofa. "Please, have a seat!"
