Chapter 566 Simple Happiness
"That's for the best. At least it won't embarrass my mom any further. Honestly, I'm not a good son either; I can't even stand up for her," Seb said, frowning.
"I know you're doing it for me," Susan understood Seb's feelings at that moment.
When she was little, James cheated on Catherine with Sophia, and Sophia repeatedly came to provoke Catherine. If she hadn't been so young back then, she would have jumped in to teach Sophia a lesson.
Although the incident with Catherine and Todd didn't escalate as badly, the essence was still the same.
At this moment, Seb suddenly said, "So, Susan, I don't want to see your mom anymore."
Hearing this, Susan frowned.
Seb continued, "Of course, you're her daughter, and it's only right for you to be filial to her. But from now on, let me avoid meeting her. This is my stance on the matter."
Susan knew it was already commendable that Seb wasn't taking his anger out on her or causing trouble for Catherine.
She nodded. "I won't let you two meet again."
"Okay," Seb nodded, then suddenly lay down on the pillow and closed his eyes.
Seeing him suddenly quiet, Susan frowned and gave him a push, asking, "What are you doing?"
"Sleeping," Seb opened his eyes briefly.
"Sleeping?" Susan was taken aback.
One minute he was holding her, his touch speaking volumes, and the next he was calling it a night?
As she wondered, Seb suddenly laughed.
Susan realized she had been tricked again.
She stepped forward and hit his shoulder twice. "I knew you were teasing me again!"
Seb stroked Susan's forehead and said, "This time, I'm not teasing you. I did feel a surge of desire earlier, but now I'm really sleepy. I just got off a plane after a ten-hour flight and was reviewing documents the whole time."
Susan then noticed Seb's eyes were indeed bloodshot, and he looked exhausted.
Seeing this, Susan felt a pang of guilt. How had she not noticed as his wife?
She pulled the blanket over him and said, "Get some good sleep. I won't disturb you."
As soon as she finished speaking, she felt a tight grip on her hand.
Looking down, she saw his hand holding hers tightly, and then she heard his voice above her head. "Stay here with me."
"Okay," Susan nodded, seeing him like a child.
With that assurance, Seb closed his eyes.
Susan lay beside him, propping her chin up and gazing at him.
Over the years, his face had gained a bit of a weathered look, and he seemed to have put on a little weight.
But he had become even more charming.
Now, he was a man exuding mature allure, with a more robust build and deeper eyes. Susan found it hard to look away. She thought to herself, 'How did I become such a lovestruck fool?'
As Susan was lost in thought, Seb suddenly opened his eyes.
Susan was startled, her face blushing.
"So, you were secretly watching me," Seb's voice was now deep and magnetic.
"Caught me red-handed," she retorted, trying to regain her composure. "But I'm allowed to stare. You are my husband."
"True," Seb said, his lips curving into a mischievous smile. "And you're allowed to touch, too."
"Get away. Why are you so bad?" Susan gave him a push.
"If I weren't bad, you probably wouldn't like me so much," Seb said, wrapping his arm around her waist.
"I find you getting worse, and that's not a good sign," Susan said, touching Seb's face.
Seb applied a bit of pressure, pulling her closer.
Susan's body reacted immediately, her face flushing.
Seeing her shy expression, Seb leaned in and kissed her lips.
But the kiss was brief, barely a touch.
The room's temperature seemed to rise.
The white embroidered curtains became more hazy, refracting the sunlight into tiny specks.
Everything was so atmospheric. Susan blinked at Seb, showing a lazy demeanor.
Seb touched her cheek and smiled, saying, "I really need to sleep to have the energy to tangle with you."
Hearing this, Susan frowned, about to say something.
He laughed and said, "They say good women drain your energy. Now I understand."
"Can you be serious for once?" Susan said, hitting him lightly.
"Even if I wanted to be unserious now, I couldn't," Seb raised an eyebrow.
Seeing how tired he looked, Susan quickly said, "You should sleep. I need to go to the office."
Seb held Susan's hand and said, "I miss Hayden and Spring. Can you bring them back?"
Susan nodded. "Dorothy just got back from Averlake today. With her keeping my mom company, I feel at ease. I'll call Leon to bring them back. Oh, wait, let's have Leon pick them up in three hours so they don't disturb your sleep."
Seeing how thoughtful she was, Seb's hand moved from her wrist, along her arm, to her shoulder, his touch full of strength and warmth. Susan felt a jolt of electricity through her body.
He smiled and said, "Once I'm rested, I'll spend quality time with you."
Seeing the unusual light in his eyes, Susan pulled away, got out of bed, and put on her shoes. "You should sleep. I need to ask Kathy to buy groceries. We haven't cooked at home for days. Tonight, we'll have a family dinner, and I'll have Kathy prepare a feast!"
"You're the lady of the house; arrange as you please," Seb said, then closed his eyes.
Susan smiled and left the bedroom.
Putting on her coat and stepping outside, Susan walked with a lighter step, unlike the heaviness of the past few days.
Everything seemed to be moving in a better direction.
