Chapter 954 Arguing as a Pastime

This question was kinda tough to answer 'cause she pretty much loved everything about that house.

Isabella fiddled with her short hair, hesitated a bit, and finally said, "The house is too high up. I'm scared of heights and get dizzy just looking down."

Leon nodded seriously and said, "Well, I guess I'll just have to stay at your place then."

Isabella sighed and headed to the bedroom. She loved being with him all the time, but living together? That was a completely different thing.

But in the end, she couldn't resist Leon. He had already started treating her small apartment like his own home, bringing more and more of his stuff over. Eventually, he even moved a safe into her place.

One day, Isabella found a safe almost as tall as her on the cramped balcony.

"Leon, did you bring this safe here?" she shouted.

Leon, who was folding clothes, rushed over. "Yeah, what's the problem?" he asked like it was no big deal.

"My balcony is tiny, and you brought this huge safe here. It's so crowded!" Isabella snapped.

Leon just smiled and patted the safe. "This has all my valuable stuff. I can't go home more than twice a month now. I'm worried about thieves. If I lose everything, it would be a disaster. So, I moved it here."

Isabella thought about it and realized he had a point. Looking at the 4.5-foot-tall safe, she wondered, 'All his valuables are in there? Must be a lot of important stuff. Fine, let it stay. If a thief came and took everything, it would be a huge loss.'

So, she just shook her head, said nothing, and walked away.

Leon saw her frustrated look and secretly smiled.

Over time, Isabella and Leon got really close. They were in sync, and even though they argued a lot, they saw it as fun 'cause they always made up quickly.

Leon was great at taking care of her. Despite his busy schedule, he cooked for her every day and kept the place clean.

Except for never talking about marriage, Leon was the perfect boyfriend. He was basically living with her now.

As two years went by, Isabella hit over her thirties and got anxious. She really wanted to get married and have a kid. Every time she saw Hayden and Spring, she adored them. The more time passed, the more she wanted her own child.

But no matter how much she hinted or asked directly, Leon never brought up marriage.

Isabella got more and more distressed and moody. She usually didn't worry about much, but this was different.

One evening, Leon held Isabella's hand as they walked in a riverside park.

Under the colorful sunset, the river sparkled, and a few kids were playing and chasing each other nearby, with their parents smiling and watching.

A warm scene unfolded in front of her. Isabella glanced up at Leon, their fingers intertwined, and said, "Those kids are adorable."

"Yeah," Leon replied, smiling at the kids playing ahead.

Seizing the moment, Isabella lowered her head and said, "I'm only a year older than Susan, and she's already got two kids. Hayden's almost in elementary school, and Spring's in kindergarten. I'm getting old too."

Leon chuckled, "Why so sentimental all of a sudden?"

Isabella stopped and looked up at him. "I really want to have my own kid."

Leon’s smile faded, and his face grew serious.

Seeing his expression change, Isabella frowned, feeling a knot in her stomach.

"We're still young; we'll definitely have one in the future," Leon said evasively, then kept walking, still holding her hand.

Isabella knew he was brushing her off, but she had to push on. "Leon, we've been together for almost two years, right?"

"What are you getting at?" Leon asked, his eyes narrowing.

His sharp, cold gaze sent a chill through her.

"You know what I mean," Isabella said, not wanting to spell it out and risk outright rejection. It wasn't just about pride; it would break her heart. In fact, she was already heartbroken.

Leon frowned. "Isabella, aren't we happy now? Do we really need to get married to prove my love for you?"

Isabella couldn't hold back. "We are different. Marriage would make me feel secure."

Leon seemed agitated. "Isabella, I love you. Isn't that enough?"

Tears welled up in Isabella's eyes.

She felt his love, but why wouldn't he marry her? Getting married would provide her with the security and official status she craved, far beyond what their current cohabitation could offer. She dreamed of having a child with him once they were married, but she couldn't understand why he wouldn't commit to marriage.

Just then, Leon's phone rang. He answered, said a few words, and then told her he had to leave immediately.

Isabella knew their conversation was over, again without resolution.

Before Leon could say anything, Isabella frowned and said, "I know you have something urgent. Go ahead, and be safe."

"What about you?" Leon's eyes showed guilt and remorse.

"I'll walk for a bit and then head back." She forced a smile.

"Go back early," Leon urged.

"Okay," Isabella nodded.

Leon reluctantly turned and left.

Watching him walk away, tears slowly streamed down Isabella's face.

She didn't want to pressure him or let him see her sad and crying. She didn't want to force him into marriage; she wanted him to want it too. But now, it seemed like it was all just her wishful thinking.

Isabella wiped her tears and looked up at the darkening sky.
