Chapter 1382 No Sign of the Best Man
After over two hours of hard work, Cecilia and Elowen were finally done with their makeup and hair, thanks to the diligent efforts of the stylists.
Cecilia looked at Elowen, who was dressed in a pristine white wedding gown and wearing a delicate tiara, and smiled. "Elowen, you look absolutely stunning today!"
Elowen blushed and then glanced at Cecilia. "Cecilia, I told you your dress is too simple. Your hair is also a bit plain. You're naturally beautiful, but it's a shame not to dress up a bit more!"
Elowen had been fussing over Cecilia's outfit and appearance, which were indeed quite understated. Apart from a pair of pearl earrings, Cecilia wore no other jewelry.
Cecilia just smiled. "Today is your day. I don't want to steal your spotlight. I think this is just fine."
She glanced down at herself. She didn't want to stand out too much, especially since many people from the Fields family would recognize her. It was better to keep a low profile.
"Alright, if you insist," Elowen said with a resigned smile.
Just then, someone outside called out, "The groom is here to pick up the bride!"
Hearing this, Elowen smiled shyly and happily.
Cecilia patted Elowen's hand. "The groom is here. I'll go check it out."
"Okay," Elowen nodded.
Cecilia followed the crowd out of the dressing room and saw Elijah approaching in a sharp tuxedo, looking radiant. He held a bouquet in his hand, his face beaming with joy. A large group of people surrounded him, bustling towards the dressing room.
Cecilia scanned the crowd but didn't see the best man. She frowned slightly.
The best man should be by the groom's side, she thought. But then she laughed at herself for thinking about that jerk. Last night, he made her so carsick she couldn't even eat dinner.
Elijah soon reached Cecilia and asked with a smile, "Cecilia, is Elowen ready?"
"She's been ready for a while, just waiting for you," Cecilia replied with a smile.
Elijah smiled with excitement and eagerly entered the dressing room, trailed by a sizable crowd. Their presence instantly filled the space with energy and chatter.
Cecilia stood at the door, suddenly feeling a bit disinterested.
At that moment, a man in a black vest, looking like a wedding staff member, approached her. He glanced at Cecilia's outfit and asked, "Excuse me, are you the maid of honor?"
"Yes, I am," Cecilia nodded.
The man smiled and said, "Hello, I'm the assistant to the wedding officiant. Since the maid of honor and best man didn't have time for the rehearsal, only the bride and groom participated. The officiant wants everything to be perfect, so he asked me to do a quick rehearsal with you and the best man. Is that okay?"
Cecilia frowned, feeling troubled.
She didn't mind the hassle, but the thought of rehearsing with Daryl made her uncomfortable.
However, seeing the assistant's pleading look, Cecilia didn't want to make things difficult for him. "What does the best man think?"
"I've been looking for him for a while but haven't found him," the assistant said, looking worried.
Cecilia laughed. "Then let's wait until you find him."
As Cecilia was about to leave, the assistant, desperate, asked, "Miss, do you have the best man's contact information? I've been trying to get his number but haven't had any luck."
Cecilia shook her head. "Sorry, I don't."
With that, she turned and walked back into the dressing room.
Inside, the room was lively with the photographer taking pictures of the bride and groom, and many people joking around.
Cecilia stood in a corner, witnessing Elijah and Elowen's happiness, while wondering why Daryl, the best man, hadn't shown up yet.
After the photos, everyone escorted the bride and groom to the wedding car, heading straight to the hotel where the ceremony would be held.
The Fields family took Elijah and Elowen's wedding very seriously, booking the entire ultra-luxury hotel. From afar, one could see many hot air balloons and streamers floating in the air.
The wedding hall was magnificent, filled with guests, flowers, and colorful ribbons, making the ceremony exceptionally grand.
Cecilia stayed with Elowen in the dressing room. Elowen was very nervous, clutching Cecilia's hand. "Cecilia, I'm so nervous. There are so many people outside. I'm afraid I'll mess up and embarrass Elijah!"
Seeing Elowen's anxious expression, Cecilia smiled gently and reassured her. "Don't worry. The officiant will guide everything, and Elijah will be right by your side. Just follow the officiant's instructions."
"Okay," Elowen nodded, but Cecilia could still feel her hand trembling slightly.
Cecilia remembered her own wedding with Daryl. She had been just as nervous, just like Elowen today. It felt like it was only yesterday.
At that moment, the makeup artist and the officiant's assistant walked in. The makeup artist said to Elowen, "The wedding is about to start. Let me touch up your makeup."
"I'm the officiant's assistant. I have a few things to go over with you," the assistant said, holding a piece of paper with important notes.
Seeing this, Cecilia stepped back a few paces. The makeup artist began touching up Elowen's makeup while the assistant went over the details with her.
Soon, several more staff members came in, some helping with Elowen's dress, some taking photos, and others bringing water for the bridesmaids. The dressing room was almost full.
A waitress in a red dress entered, holding a blue velvet box. She smiled at Cecilia and asked, "Are you Ms. Thorne, the maid of honor?"
"Yes, I am. Is there something you need?" Cecilia nodded.
After confirming, the waitress handed the velvet box to Cecilia. "Ms. Thorne, this is a gift from the bride for you."
Cecilia took the box, puzzled, and opened it.
Inside was a stunning pearl necklace, long and elegant, with each pearl perfectly round and glowing softly. It was clearly a valuable piece.
"Ms. Thorne, this pearl necklace matches your dress perfectly. Would you like me to help you put it on?" the waitress asked with a smile, seeing Cecilia's fingers gently touching the pearls.
